Hello there I am 59 years old, I have been diagnosed with bph for several. Years now , psa ok around 2.5 checked every year, symptoms getting worse, peeing several times during the night , also severe retention if leave it too long when need to go .do not leak! (Yet) and would appreciate feedback from others who have had the procedure ( good and bad) The alfuziin 10 mg tablets seem to make little difference, and wondering whether to go ahead or carry on.

I am 58 years old with an average size prostate so I'm a model patient, as the average age is 68 and many people of that age have significant health problems and larger prostates to boot. I needed treatment as I had to take Pressin at night else I'd be in trouble and I was getting up huge number of times at night and also urinating a lot during the day.
I did read the published statistics for the TURP procedure and compared them against HoLEP treatment also.
The moderator rightly, commented that most contributors contribute as they are fearful of what to do or have had bad experiences. My motivation in contributing is to hopefully give a more positve spin, at this early stage by relating my experiences.
I live in Australia where we have a public/private mixed system. I ended up, going in as a public patient, even though I have private medical insurance. I was on the waiting list for a bit over 2 months. I ended up paying nothing and was in hospital for two nights. I had my own room and the treatment was exceptional, even the food was good.
My surgeon is very experienced and was recommended by my GP. I felt that the TURP operation was safe enough and the stats were highly favourable and it has been around a long time. My brother in New Zealand was involved in work with Olympus and he talked to doctors and patients who had TURP done with very good results.
I had Morphine administered in recovery (I had a general anesthetic) and then some Oxycodone and Targin afterwards then Targin twice a day until discharge and then just Panadol and Iboprofen for several days while at home.
The operation was on Monday, I was home Wednesday and I was back at work Thursday.
The catheter was removed the last day I was in hospital and they tested that I was emptying properly before sending me home.
I have had some discomfort initially but mild only with a small amount of bleeding. Last night nine days after surgery, I had my first test launch of my Thor rocket and I was pleased to report not only no pain but the liquid payload was delivered externally right away, no different to before the operation.
My p*ssing is generally much better than before although I still find at night my bladder seems to get irritated giving me an urge to go when the bladder isn't full. Not too bad but room for improvement. During the day though everything is way better than before. I used to pee several times during our evening 5km walk after dark around our local swamp/wilderness area. No more and no more sudden urges to pee.
Things could go wrong yet for me, but so far the operation has exceeded my expectations. I still want improvement in less frequent urination at night but hey I've been drinking beer at night and I think even night urination has improved already on what it was like before the operation.

I just tried to find the paper that I referred to but similar stats exist in more than one place. I would need time to find it.

This is a technical (very) reference to the operation. If is an involved surgery and takes a lot of skill and experience.
