Uncomfortable feeling Under Left Lower Ribs and varying bowel movements

Posted , 173 users are following.

To try cut a long story as short as I can I have basically had an uncomfortable feeling under my lower left ribs and some irregular bowel movements for the last 3 months that don't seem to show any signs of disappearing. Just wondered if anyone has experienced anything similar?

With regards to the feeling in the ribs at no point has it been massively painful to the point where I have needed to take any pain killers or anything like that. It just feels more uncomfortable than anything else rather than painful as if there is something under my ribs that should be there. The lower left ribs feel bruised to touch but again not that painful.

I play football and go to the gym and have been able to continue both without any trouble or issues.

With regards to my bowels they have just been a bit all over the place since it started really. At first I kind of felt constipated and was having bowel movements but size and quantity wise there wasn't as much coming out as normal or as expected and had a feeling of not fully emptying.

In the last month that has changed slightly in that I have had a couple of what I would call regular sized and quantity movements but they seem to happen every 3 or 4 days and in between the movements are the fairly small quantities mentioned and usually very irregular shapes and sizes although the feeling of not emptying seems to have gone or reduced.

I have been to see my GP 3 or four times since this started. First couple of times they had a feel around and couldn't feel anything untoward and suggested it was just a bit of constipation so suggest some over the counter laxitives and then when that didnt work prescribed some Laxido sachets which again didnt do anything really.

I have now had a blood test and an chest xray that I am awaiting the results of and have an ultrasound booked in but that isn't for another 3 weeks.

In the meantime I just really suffering a bit mentally not knowing what this is and obviously worrying this could be something serious. Just keep searching and searching online and must have diagnosed myself with about 25 different things which I know is silly but can't help it. I am someone that never usually gets ill so this is very out of the ordinary for me.

I am only 32 and lead a pretty active lifestyle, eat well, don't smoke and don't drink too much, weight and BMI is all in the decent range - all things which my GP keeps telling me means that it being something serious is unlikely but at the same time it doesn't show any sign of easing up.

Not had any diarrhea at all in the 3 months although stools have been pretty soft the whole time even when not much is coming out. Not had any blood in my stools that I have been able to notice.

Its just so frustrating as for 3 months whilst I have been able to go to work etc I just feel like I am constantly at about 70%. I feel ok physically but not great and mentally I just feel shot to pieces.

Obviously I need to wait for my results and take from there but just seems such a drawn out affair to try and convince GP that something just doesn't feel right and just wondered if anyone had suffered anything similar to this?

It is the 10th nerve (Vagus) .

Wheb it is sore it makes u feel like hell but for an unknown reason.

One day u think it is the IBS and yes it is partially it  just because the 10th nerve is involved in colon.

Sometimes u will think it is the heart and it beats and yes it is partially it because the 10th nerve is involved in the heart.

And sometimes u will think it os the stomache and yes (partially)

We need to trat the 10 nerve whick travels from the head to the legs on the left and right sides and touching almost everything.

Feelings sometimes like u want to cry for no readon.

Feeling like there is a machine  working all over ur body and missing with everything inside.

      LOOK FOR VAGUS.

I’ve been reading all the comments on this thread then Googling my arse off. I *think* I have an idea and am going to try it out.

Okay please google and think about this a lot before dismissing it because this would be good news.

What if this is trapped gas? Like in a big way?

After googling I can think of a few things that may have triggered this. This all started right after I started a different hypothyroid medication that I had a bad reaction too (I immediately went off it) but it caused me fear and stress and anxiety. I immediately came down with a virus for the first time in almost four years (fever, sore throat) which also caused fear and anxiety. I started taking cbd oil for my anxiety and also Hyland’s Calm’s Forte which has lactose in it and I’ve been vegan for four years. I’ve been taking both every day since I acquired the virus. This rib *thing* started the next day and had not left. It’s been three weeks. I’ve had x-rays of my lungs and ribs and a full abdominal ultrasound. Both showing nothing.

I am the type of person that will hold their gas in if I’m around people or in public in any way, no matter how uncomfortable I become. I always have done that. I also have crazy loud abdominal noises (gurgling, rumbling, squeaking) which has gotten worse with this.

I just drank some turmeric, ginger tea and am going to bed.

I’m going to buy peppermint tea tomorrow and look up more tips to remove trapped gas. One top is to go fir walks. Anyone else notice that if you’ve been walking a bit the pressure/uncomfortableness seems to be a little better?

I’m going to give this a try and also I’m going to try to stick with natural stuff that will let the *possible* trapped gas escape rather than meds that will cover it up.

Oh, one of the other causes can be chewing with mouth open.

So I wonder if we have any of this in common? Loud stomachs, stress, maybe breathing through mouth due to nose issues?

First time poster after reading through these pages the last 10 weeks or so.

I have had mild pain in my left abdomen and side for 10 weeks. It is sometimes under the left rib, sometimes in the middle of left ribcage, or even just left and north of my bellybutton.

This started after I completely changed diets, and had been travelling for some time and assumed it was/is some kind of virus I picked up, food I ate, or new condition like IBS.  It doesn't really prohibit my daily activities, just bothers me.  It seems better when lying down and in the morning hours.

What I've done so far:  blood tests, stool test for blood or some parasites, one 10 day round of flagyl for possibility of giardia, colonoscopy, abdominal ultrasound, x-rays and currently trying two zantac 150s and a probiotic each day.

SO! What have I learned, so far the zantac seems to be helping and the stress relief after the colonoscopy may be contributing as well -- I may have a mild ulcer.

I will keep this updated and try my best not to desert the thread.  I actually am going to Atlanta in a couple weeks to a disease specialist to bring out the big guns on getting  a proper diagnosis.

Any advice or questions are welcome.  Stay strong!

    -J

I've posted on here before, after I couldn't get relief from any traditional drs. I decided to go to a kinesiologist. I know people think their fake but my thought was can't hurt and maybe it will help. I have got much relief from my bowel problems. I had a ileocecal valve stuck closed for a few days and when she tested me she determined i had parasites from this. She gave me an herb to take and makes small adjustments to my body each visit. I've seen her for about 2 months and could start to tell a big difference after one month. Dr kristen shiver Gainesville Florida.

      Thanks Bruce!

I am still undiagnosed and have taken to keeping a food journal to see what things may cause that left sided pain to increase.  I am completely avoiding gluten and any trigger foods that I think are contributing.  This, seems to be keeping pain at bay, although I'm not completely pain free after a month of doing this.

I think visiting a holistic doc is my next step, to see if there are any adjustments or supplements and allergies they might find.

You guys, have any of you searched “MS hug”? I’ve seen two physiatrists now and a Neurologist and I am scheduled to have three MRIs. This is after having an x-ray of my ribs and lungs and an Abdominal ultrasound. My neurologist is thinking MS. For those of you that are having the squeezing sensation in your ribs, such as myself and I’ve had it now for two months straight, Google MS hug and I think you will be intrigued by what you see.

Yes, my docs thought the same for me. I just had 4 MRI's. No lesions. I had EVERY symptom of MS tho

Although I don't have numbness tingling or burning sensations anymore since I lost the power in left side 18 years ago although I cannot rush run jump etc anymore I can walk fine although balance is not what it should be
