Underactive for 32 years now going other way????

Hi everyone. Can I have some advice please. I have had a underactive thyroid for 32 years. Over time i've gone from 50mg to 175mg.
I went for a blood test Wednesday as I have lost half a stone in less than 2 weeks. ( never been over weight always around 9/10 stone) My dr rang this afternoon as the results are showing it that its going overactive now. I have reduce my meds by 25mg then blood test in 8 weeks.
Does any one know why it goes from underactive to overactive.
Thank you P

Hi Paula
I have the same problem. Was hypothyroid for years. Was put on Armour Thyroid and last year I felt really weak and dizzy and learned my thyroid turned hyper. I went through ultrasounds and fine needle biopsies over the years and annual blood work. So I had a radio iodine uptake test to determine the cause and it seems one nodule went hot, spewing too much hormone into my blood.
Do you have nodules? Do you have hyper symptoms? I didn't have the usual heart palps or weight loss (quite the contrary) always hard to lose weight. I didn't have shakes or anxiety. Just very weak and dizzy. So I'm on Methimazole now. UGH. It's a roller coaster. I still don't feel like the old me as I have to keep getting blood testing and med adjustments. I do take a lot of supplements though that we need when we're hyper.
I was offered RAI or thyroidectomy but I'd rather hang in with the meds for a while.
Did you have an uptake test yet to get a diagnosis?

Just a thought, Paula. Were you tested for thyroid antibodies like TSI and TPO which can be caused by autoimmune issues. What are your thyroid levels? Can you post results and lab ranges? My TSH dove to .001 but my T's are normal range.

Hi Jaye. Thanks for reply. I dont know my levels as my dr rang 2 days after blood test and explained. I knew something was wrong, losing weight but seems to have slowed down now ,mardy & like an ill sitting hen. Im on so many meds for my spinal problem and fibro too not sure if that has anything to do with it. I think i'm going to see if it possible to see a specialist. Its one hassle I dont need
