Underarm Pain

Where do I start. Hoping someone can put my mind at rest.

In January, I had a nasty virus which led to chest pains, feeling terrible, palpitations, went to doctors, had ECG and bloods, all normal. Was taking Cerazette mini pill at time, stopped taking it. Started feeling a little better, started taking again. Had dull ache under left armpit and sore boobs. Put this down to starting pill again. Chest started feeling all tight and heavy, pains again, so stopped pill again, went back to doctors, slight swelling to sternum area, told I had Costochondritis. Pain in underarm/left side of breast continued, had a good check doing self breast exam, went back to doctors, had examination off the doctor, no lumps felt, no swollen lymph nodes, doctor put it down to combination of hormomes and costochondritis. Painful armpit went away, got my period, started taking cerazette again.

After a few days, started feeling ill again, armpit and left breast uncomfortable. Took pill for about 12 days, then made decision to stop it altogether, had another doctors apt - blood pressure, heart rate and ECG (again) all normal.

However, dull pain/ache still in armpit and sometimes down left side of breast, sometimes ache down arm. Its intermittent, not always there, when I'm sitting and relaxing I dont feel it, its not stopping me sleeping. When I'm doing things around the house, i'm aware of it. When I squeeze my armpit towards my body, I can feel the ache, but when I stop squeezing,

i dont feel it.  Both my breasts look as normal as usual.

I'm sick of waking up every day to this, worrying about it, the doctor says there no lumps and it will probably go away in time, but i'm worried that theres something more seriously wrong, and keep thinking im going to die and leave my husband and daughter which upsets me and makes me think of it more!

I have a 2 year old child that Im always lifting up, and i'm left handed, am wondering if it could be hormonal due to the amount of times I've stopped and started the mini pill in a short space of time, and also if I maybe have a trapped nerve or damaged a muscle in some way.

Any comments would be appreciated.

Hi ladies, I am in Canada, and I too have begun suffering this under arm pain in my right side. It feels like there is something there, but when I actively feel for any lump, NOTHING. Now I do have fibrocystic breast tissue in my right breast and am maybe wondering if that pain may be related to this pain. Also I have gained weight as of late and perhaps it may be related to that as well since I have never been this constricted in the arm pit region. I am starting to freak out now as I generally do about theaes things...To me, EVERYTHING is cancer sad

I found this discussion after googling my symptoms.

I have had an ultrasound on the left breast and all was clear. I was terrified prior because 2 years before I had a mass and a biopsy on the same area.

So I found a doctor that treats patients with natural supplements. He says 9 out of 10 patients he sees are between 45 and 65 and most of these women have had these same specific symptoms mostly during menopause. I am taking various supplements to address the hormone levels that he says are causing the symptoms to include underarm pain, hot flashes, nipple tenderness and numbness in the left arm and breast area. One thing to add is that he said any hormone level problems can cause these symptoms, young or menopausal.

After less than two weeks the pain is gone. I can provide a list once I am home if anyone is interested.

But never follow this advice unless you have first consulted a doctor to make sure your breaststroke are healthy.

      Hi Karen

I would be interested in the list of supplements if you could spare the time to pop them on here? Glad you have had success in relieving your breast pain.

I know this post is old but I am 44 and going through early menopause and am experiencing the exact symptoms you had. I would love to know what you took to help with the pain. My gp wants to put me on HRT but I don't want to take it and have been seeing a naturopath who has helped with some of the symptoms but not this underarm and breast pain. If you could pass on the info to me I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks.

      Hi Karen

I have been suffering similar symptoms to yours for the past month. I believe it is menopausal and have been to my doctor for a breast exam and all normal. I am reluctantly booked in for a mammogram just to be sure. I am also taking hormonal supplements which have helped to reduce hot flashes at least but the pain and tingling remain daily and come and go. All pain and tingling is on the left side of my body.

I am interested in your list if you still have it.

I hope you have remained well and thank you so much for contributing to this thread which has helped me immensley.

      Cheers smile

hi, it was sort of good and bad to find this discussion.... i have had these symptoms for 10 days now........... also had a vicious virus and docs think that i may have broken a rib coughing or pulled muscles so no xray etc offered, just go away and it will get better! However, although the pain is excrutiating when I cough or sneeze or involuntarily move certain muscles, it doesnt explain the fact that the pain seems to move and is sometimes worse than others, I am on HRT and it sort of feels like  its in my glands and a bit hormonal so i am not convinced!.....as no one yet has the answer, perhaps we could all compare how this pain first came on, we may find a common link? Was it a slow onset or sudden? Did it follow a virus or time of stress? Did it follow a physical activity or some other event? Lets get together to find an answer because although i have only had it 10 days the thought of it going on undiagnosed for months is scary, especially as its preventing me doing any physical activity!
