Underarm Pain

Where do I start. Hoping someone can put my mind at rest.

In January, I had a nasty virus which led to chest pains, feeling terrible, palpitations, went to doctors, had ECG and bloods, all normal. Was taking Cerazette mini pill at time, stopped taking it. Started feeling a little better, started taking again. Had dull ache under left armpit and sore boobs. Put this down to starting pill again. Chest started feeling all tight and heavy, pains again, so stopped pill again, went back to doctors, slight swelling to sternum area, told I had Costochondritis. Pain in underarm/left side of breast continued, had a good check doing self breast exam, went back to doctors, had examination off the doctor, no lumps felt, no swollen lymph nodes, doctor put it down to combination of hormomes and costochondritis. Painful armpit went away, got my period, started taking cerazette again.

After a few days, started feeling ill again, armpit and left breast uncomfortable. Took pill for about 12 days, then made decision to stop it altogether, had another doctors apt - blood pressure, heart rate and ECG (again) all normal.

However, dull pain/ache still in armpit and sometimes down left side of breast, sometimes ache down arm. Its intermittent, not always there, when I'm sitting and relaxing I dont feel it, its not stopping me sleeping. When I'm doing things around the house, i'm aware of it. When I squeeze my armpit towards my body, I can feel the ache, but when I stop squeezing,

i dont feel it.  Both my breasts look as normal as usual.

I'm sick of waking up every day to this, worrying about it, the doctor says there no lumps and it will probably go away in time, but i'm worried that theres something more seriously wrong, and keep thinking im going to die and leave my husband and daughter which upsets me and makes me think of it more!

I have a 2 year old child that Im always lifting up, and i'm left handed, am wondering if it could be hormonal due to the amount of times I've stopped and started the mini pill in a short space of time, and also if I maybe have a trapped nerve or damaged a muscle in some way.

Any comments would be appreciated.

You sound very similar to me, I'm also having brown discharge between periods now. My neck glands get sour and I also have a lot of muscle twitching. It all stems from having  a serious virus two years ago. I was also a smoker and stopped a year ago, but they have noticed my lungs are swollen so I have to see a respiratory specialist next week. Back to the subject of my arm pit, that cones and goes and I also get a noise in my ears. I was also diagnosed with costrogostrinitis. I've had bloods and lots of other tests but so far nothing else is showing. It's do worrying.  Had a ssmear

Whoops sorry about mistakes. But that was clear 6 months ago. I started taking vitamins and that started to help a bit, but then it all cones back. I also think stress can contribute to some of these symptoms. If find anymore out I will let you guys know because I know how worrying it is. But our bodies do funny things when virus's lurk about I our systems. The worrying part for me is the sporting in between periods and my lungs now. Has anyone else had problems with lungs through out these symptoms?? Thanks Hannah

    Hi,

I have just developed the same pain in my armpit.  One thing that seems to appear during this thread is that many people talk about having had a virus. I'm still in the midst of one that's lasted for weeks & has been so nasty it's kept husband off work & it also triggered shingles. I've not had it as bad as him, but it's definitely been there & left me feeling run down.

Over past few days I've noticed my left armpit becoming inreasingly uncomfortable - low level painful.  I assumed it was a gland swollen, but wanted to see if anyone else had experienced similar.  It also coincides with me having run out of evening primrose tablets & started about a week after I stopped taking them.  That could be a coincidence....but anyway!

I wonder if some of these viruses circulating apart from hanging on for weeks/months, also trigger this kind of reaction in the underarm lymph nodes?

Just a thought.  I will give it a few days and see how it goes before I see GP about it.

In the meantime, I think I will look at ways of boosting my immune system.

Hope everyone is soon feeling much better!

    Hi everyone

well its been almost a year for me and am no further forward really!

The left armpit pain is rarely there for me now - I do still feel it every now and then but not like it was. Things seem to have changed for me - I still have the breast pain but I wouldn't say it's pain as such just an ache - I have days where my nipple sometimes feels itchy but that goes away as quickly as it comes. I've stopped sleeping on my left side and when i do i feel the armpit pain the next day which makes me think it's nerve damage?

Every single pain or ache and I'm convinced I'm dying!! I've had a couple of chest infection that have cleared with antibiotics. I stretched out in bed on Sunday and felt my back pull and struggled for two days with pain across the base of my back but lots of rest and deep heat and that's feeling much better - but I was convinced I was on my way out lol!!!!

It's funny but as I sat down to write this I felt normal. As I'm writing my armpit has started up! Anxiety? I just dont know.

i sometimes get a pain in my left shoulder and It seems worse on the days when I'm at work (sit at a desk working on pc) and I've asked for a workplace assessment as I'm thinking it could be poor posture and maybe nerve damage as I mentioned earlier, as I am left handed.

sorry I've not any better news for yousell,

Hit return too fast there! !

Sorry I don't have any better news for you all, hope you are all feeling a little better at least.

One thing I was going to say was I've come across some info about vitamin b12 ddeficiency and this could be something we are all lacking? Maybe Google it and see what you think.

I've tried evening primrose, vitamin d, c, e and nothing seems to work!  X

I am blown away. So many women suffering the same symptoms and no answers. I am in the states, I'm 35 and I have 5 children 3 of whom I gave birth, two are adopted. When I first saw my doctor, I thought something was wrong with my heart. I had the palaptations and pain in my chest. He told my I had anxiety and sent me to a shrink who gave me zanex. I protested. I'm not nuts and I know my body so the shrink talked the doc into testing my cholesterol, which is slightly high but not enough for meds or to be causing problems.

Shortly after breast pain, rib pain, back and under arm pain brought me back to the doc in search of answers. He did a breast exam and found nothing out of the ordinary then did some blood work which also came back normal and that was it!

So flash forward to now...its no better, in fact its worse if I'm honest. One thing mentioned on this discussion that I found interesting is that several women battled a difficult cold shortly before a worsening of symptoms. I found this to be true for myself also.

I am grateful to have found this discussion. I go back to the doc this week and I am digging in my heals. I want and need answers and I really want to feel better and not be so scared. I will see the doc this week armed with all of your experiences and my own and will share what I learn.

Hey I'm 25 male, suffering with left sided underarm & chest pain..  my pains went into remission for several weeks but have recently and progressively returned over the last 72hrs. Check out my recently posted thread titled 'Labelled, categorized, and discriminated against as suffering with health anxiety?' I usually post in the cardiovascular forum as I feel the symptoms are related to vascular & circulatory health yet our NHS which fails to deliver an individual, tailored, and personal health service were unable to determine the causality and thus have written me off as a hypercondiac. I covertly voice record all my consultations, A&E visits, and visits with specialists on my smart phone and extensively document my experince I advise other patient's do the same.. I've also found it insightful browsing GP publication boards such as pulsetoday (UK) which reveals some of the challenges and pressures general pratice are under as well as researching how primary care and secondary care are financed, delivered, and regulated to provide me realistic expectations and greater understanding of the NHS.

Try not to panic. I get a swollen lymph gland under my left arm pit. I've been like this off and for over two years. After a virus. Does it feel saw to touch?? And a little swollen?? It's usually your immune system trying to work harder and imflammation. Does it seem to get worse near to a period??

Hi, yes it's on and off, sometimes I don't feel anything for weeks and then I get a couple of days where it's sore and slightly swollen, and I have noticed that its usually around my period! This has been going on for over two years now and I think if it was anything bad then after two years I would know by now!?

I am 28 and have been experiencing the exact same thing. Started with a tingling or tender throbbing every now and again in the armpit; didn't think much of it, no lumps or anything. It kept coming back every few days and was in the back of my mind, so I went to the doctor after about 3-4 weeks. The doctor did an examination and it felt tender when she pushed right into my breast tissue (just one side), and she thought the area was swollen. She told me to book to see a specialist… PANIC! I had to wait a week for my appointment, and spent the entire week thinking I was dying.

The pain then seemed to be constant and everywhere... all down my arm right through to my fingers, around my rib cage, under my armpit, shoulders and neck. It wasn’t so much pain, more an ache or an annoyance, a burning sensation and a tingling… maybe like a trapped nerve somewhere. The fact that every website I read said breast cancer was rarely painful was irrelevant… I was convinced I must have somehow missed primary breast cancer and it had now spread to secondary bone cancer hence the pain.

I spent the whole week addicted to Google researching as much as possible. Not recommended! However, as the pain moved about a bit, I did start to reason with myself that this could be some sort of pulled muscle, potentially ‘Poshitis’ – a new term for pulled muscles from carrying a heavy handbag like Victoria Beckham in the crook of your elbow. As well as a heavy laptop handbag 5 days a week, I’d also lifted a heavy suitcase and injured my shoulder. When doing self-examinations, I still couldn’t feel any obvious swollen tissue like the doctor had, which also slightly reassured me.

Anyway, my appointment with the breast specialist was today and I am pleased to say that my inclination of muscle strain was correct. I spoke through all of my symptoms and already the specialist was agreeing it sounded a lot like a pulled muscle. He then examined me and said everything felt perfectly normal, and also did an ultra sound to be safe which showed absolutely no lumps, swelling or cause for concern. Over the last two days I’d also been consciously not doing anything with my left arm and the pain has definitely improved, so looks like  the muscle is on the mend and I need to buy a rucksack!! Hopefully this has reassured some of you, but BOOK AN APPOINTMENT with a specialist to be sure and for peace of mind – the last week of my life was awful, it’s not worth the worry of just waiting to hope for improvement.

I too had convinced myself that I had misssed a lump and it has spread to my bones but having read all of this thread i am sort of reassured!

however still got to deal with it as seriously affecting my lifestyle!

Have asked all on thread to analyse if there was an event or something after which their symptoms started, for me it was an aweful virus and worst cough I have ever had!

Usually it's your immune system trying to fight back but everything gets inflamed. Try taking Ibruphen. I've been having it since I had a terrible virus, since then I've had other symptons. My hormones are giving me a lot of grief because I have s polyp on my womb. It's bee a really tough couple of years. Things that have helped me are, putting lavender oil on it every day. Take anti inflammatorys, meditation, exercise, I walk my dog everyday which seems to help, taking vitamins. But maybe talk to your doctors about taking the pill and see if that helps because it could be associated with your hormones and your body recovering from a virus. Try to keep calm, mines been going on for quite some time. But I'm trying to change my lifestyle. Smoking for example I've been using an electric cigarette for a year. Hope things improve soon.

So happy to read your comment... very similar circumstances to my pain. Finally went to the Dr yesterday and she is sending me for a mammogram and ultrasound as she did think there was a bit of swelling on one side of breast, however I don't feel it and there was no lumps. With every ailment I am sure I am dying (two boys, 4&6) and it's terrifying! I'm turning 40 in 2 weeks and had an aunt get diagnosed with BC and die 2 years later so it's just makes me so paranoid. Wish I could

      relax.

I have just completed all of those same tests and they found nothing, which is both good news ( since it's not cancer or my heart) and frustrating because I'm still in pain!

However right at this moment my pain is in my chest, I'm beginning to think some of it is muscular and is prevented from healing because of my job.

My pain moves, sometimes under arm, sometimes chest or even middle of upper back.

Try not to think the worst as I said they found nothing linked to cancer.

I am also thinking some sort of muscle/tendon strain since all my tests were negative. . I have no lumps or swollen anything. My job is very physical, always carrying, lifting etc. The other day I had to put a huge order away & afterwards felt as though a horse kicked me in the sturnam! I think the continued stress & lifting is preventing healing.
