Undiagnosed Severe Right Upper Abdominal Pain

Hi There,

My name is Danielle, I am a 36 year old who has been having severe right upper stomach pain for almost 9 months now. I am having other symptoms as well, vomiting sometimes(when not taking zofran or promethazine) but nauseous all the time, fatigue, swollen stomach(no weight gain), loss of appetite, diarrhea, and constipation. I have had many blood tests to rule out H-pylori, I had Ultrasounds, CT's, a HIDA Scan, and EGD, a Small Bowel Follow Through and some X-rays. With all that all they have found is that I have bilateral kidney stones, both of which are tiny at 2 mm and nonobstructing! So, no answers for why I am in so much freaking pain!! In the past I did have a microscopic kidney stone hide in my right ureter for 3 years before they found it through an exploratory surgery, but this pain is higher than that pain was. I am seeing a pain management Doctor now who did nerve blocks in my back because he believes this to be muscle pain. It's been 3 weeks since he has done the blocks and I have no relief! I am frustrated! I have nothing for pain, and can't sleep, and barely eat! Does anyone out there have any thoughts?

Both professionals and non-professionals are getting you nowhere. So what to do? Your answer might be to check into a rehab facility for awhile where they can observe your problem more closely and give you the proper treatment. Insurance will cover if recommended by your doctor.

Rehab? I am trying to find the source of my pain! I am not taking any pain medications nor do I drink. So why would I need a rehab facility?? The only time I have had any pain medication was when I went to the ER and when I was put under sedation for my nerve blocks in my back!! This is a serious problem, when people just assume everyone in pain is a drug seeker!!

Danielle I wouldnt take it personally I think he was saying doctors are always in a rush to take our history & physicals so I think he was suggesting if there was someone there to see first hand what you're experiencing then it might be easier to make a diagnosis. I agree with you though a rehab facility isnt the right answer. what city and state do you live in?

I live in Tucson, Arizona. I was thinking about looking into Mayo Clinic in Phoenix. I heard they deal with difficult cases that are hard to diagnose.

The Mayo Clinic is a good idea but you should first inquire about insurance acceptance. Rehab facilities are not just for addicts and alcoholics. They are for those who cannot find any other treatment for their medical problems. You are yearning for help and I tried. I did not mean to offend you.

I did check and they do take my insurance with my PCP's referral. Sorry, to take your comment so personally. In the months of going through this I (and even my family members) have been questioned by doctors repeatedly about my habits and how I live my life, trying to figure out if indeed I am a drug addict or alcoholic, before even treating me. I guess I kinda have a short fuse with that one. Again, I sincerely am sorry.
