Unexplained Chronic Nausea

Hi all
I am writing in the hope that someone can relate to what I am going though and maybe offer some support or advice.
Seven weeks ago I woke up feeling extremely nauseous. I also had bad muscle pains, joint pains, a headache every day (now gone), and felt extremely fatigued; so fatigued that some days I find it hard to walk around as my legs feel like paper on bad days. I have been like this every single day for weeks. I have actually had similar symptoms on other occasions in the past. On those occasions, it has usually lasted about six weeks and then disappeared. This time it is showing no signs of abating. I lay on my bed most days feeling too sick to move around.
Because this has happened before, my GP thinks it might be M.E and I am waiting to go to a clinic to see someone about it. Meanwhile, each day is like torture to me.
I wake up very nauseous as soon as I open my eyes. I can not bear to eat until around midday but usually feel slightly better for eating something....if it does not give me bad wind and I end up burping for hours. I am just eating tiny amounts often. I have acid reflux but my throat isn't sore with acid. I also have a hiatus hernia though it's very small. I am on PPIs for this.
I can not take anti sickness meds as I react badly to them. No doctor will give me them so I have to brave this without any help. I cut out caffiene, I don't drink alcohol, and I eat a healthy diet...I have to because I have chronic kidney disease, my cholesterol has suddenly gone up, and I am high end of normal for blood sugar. In fact, I am on so many restrictions it seems sometimes like there is only veg left!
I am waiting to see a gastroenterologist as my GP is hoping he will do a colonoscopy to rule out bowel disease. I don't want it. I have to have CT scans every six months because I had kidney cancer two years ago, and I get so anxious beforehand and go to pieces. I have one due in two weeks that is causing me a huge amount of stress. I have to have the dye this time too and I am scared of it. I have claustrophobia.
I have been to the doctor about five times in seven weeks. It has been deduced that I am depressed to boot...who wouldn't be? Otherwise all blood tests have been fine and physical exam doesn't point to anything. I have just done a stool test and awaiting results. My GP really doesn't know what's wrong with me. I ended up in casualty one day as I collapsed on my stairs. I had been in a bad way for about five weeks. My sats were okay, blood test fine, chest x-ray fine..sent home.
I am starting to go out of my mind methinks! I am worried and sometimes it feels like I can't breathe through such stress. I get light headed, feel almost depersonalized, and sweat with fear at times.
Has anyone suffered in this way and for so long without diagnosis? I would welcome any kind of response.
Thanks

I had this problem in my 20's when I lived with my 10 month son while going to nursing school. I ended up dropping out of school and breaking my U.S. Army contract. I weighed 108 lbs. My brother also suffered from this as a restaurant owner. Numerous cousins also suffer from this.
No obvious cause other than stress found at the time. That was in 1986.
Research and hit and miss has led me to find a histamine blocker like claritin with zantac helps tremendously.
Look into histamine problems, even DAO histamine enzyme deficiencies which can cause migraines.
Also, an anticholerginic like levbid for oversensitive stomach can help tons!!
Perhaps related: i am now being tested for narcolepsy, ideopathic hypersomnolence. If its idiopathic hypersomnolence it may mean my brain is secreting a sedative all day that is the equivalent to taking sleeping pills and then trying to function all day. Perhaps related?
Look into that to see if you have those symptoms. A spinal tap to check the CSF fluid is the only way to diagnose right now. I am waiting for my spinal tap to be set up.
Also, try an immunologist to check increases in IgG and IgM levels for autoimmune disease causing it. Bypass the general practitioners and stomach doctors.
I sure hope you find answers!!

I also have chronic nausea and just read a different discussion and this person said it could be from vertigo. The one thing she told us to look up was the Epley Manuver on youtube and i did that. I believe my problem is very much related to a form of vertigo so my next visit is to the ENT. It all made sense after reading about it and my left ear is always blocked up. Do you have anything like this while you're feeling so nauseated?

I know this discussion was posted six months ago and I was curious if you have had any resolution since then. I'm a 38 a year old female and I've been having problems with vomiting and nausea for a good 5 to 6 years. my biological father, who i don't know much about had similar problems and ended up with colon cancer because they couldn't figure out what it was. Recently, I had a terrible flare up of some sort where I was vomiting 3 days straight. After the first 24 hours, I could barely stand in begged my partner to take me to the ER which she did. They gave me something called phenergan which certainly helps right away with the nausea in severe anxiety I had due to fear that if I vomited anymore I would physically fall apart. My body just couldn't take it anymore. What I noticed was although the phenergan stopped the vomiting, it did nothing for the pain I felt under my breast plate on the left side. It almost felt as though whatever was there was too big to be inside my body. After a CAT scan and chest x ray they told me there's nothing there out of the norm... Although there was a legion on my kidney that I needed to follow up with with my primary care doctor. That was it. After back and forth to the ER for 3 days they finally admitted me for medication management. I was living on zofran, Raglan... Which I guess is a dangerous drug 4 it can cause paralysis......but it seemed to work the best. They also had me on point five milligrams of dilaudid for pain, but I don't know if pain was what I was experiencing... More discomfort than anything. Since I was discharged, I have been nauseous everyday living on Zofran and Dramamine. life has been very miserable... As much as we did triedto get the ER to call in a gi for a consult they wouldn't do it. So my own gi scheduled me for an endoscopy this coming Monday. I had One 2 years ago due to family history and was told they cut out a polyp from my stomach, that I have a hiatus hernia, mild inflammation in esophagus and two polyps were taken out of my colon during my colonoscopy. Occasionally I get belches that reek of rotten eggs... Reek so bad that it can be smelled throughout the house. And if I vomit while experiencing These burps..., forget it the smell lasts forever it's terrible. I haven't had any in awhile, but I am i nauseous all the time. All I want to do is lay down and even then getting comfortable sometimes it's hard. So I'm wondering have you had any luck? Any information you have would be great.

Did you ever find out what you had? These are all the symptoms I have been struggling with and they keep getting worse and worse. The sores on face and back of neck. They are also only on my right arm. Constant itchy eyes with goo coming out almost like threads. Horrible low back, leg and abdominal pain. Please help!

While the answer might be as simple as fixing bad sleeping habits, it is more than likely that you are favoring certain sleeping positions to accomodate larger postural abnormalities and muscular weaknesses.
Weakness in the abdominal wall is common in women, particularly after menopause as estrogen plays a critical role in maintaining core muscle tone. Over time, lacking support from the abdominal wall below, the ribcage will start to slump forward putting pressure on the internal organs leading to a generally inflammed state. This slumping also causes changes in spinal curvature that can lead people to favor sleeping on their stomaches, or on their side but twisted with one leg out so as to be half on the stomach. Whatever problems are caused by poor posture while awake are worsened by poor posture while asleep. And as much as you train yourself to sleep on your back, you will tend to shift positions once asleep.
The solution involves stretching and some minor core training so that you can properly support your body under gravity. With increased spinal mobility and core strength will come better, more supported sleep and an end to morning nausea. This training will also help protect you from osteoporosis as you age.
Stretching through the nausea in the morning may help alleviate it. Stretching before bed may help limber you up to sleep on your back, as can placing a rolled up towel under your lumbar spine, or simply removing your pillow and making firm contact between your occiput and the mattress.
If you wish to talk to a health care professional about your options, see an osteopath or a chiropractor, not a medical doctor. This is not a phenomenon that can be addressed at the molecular level.
