Update with my Problem ( Cyclobenzaprine ) Flexeril

Good morning all.  It has been about 3 weeks that I have been on Cyclobenzaprine for my problem. A Tight External Sphincter.  That is what my urologist said was the problem.  I am suppose to take it 3 times a days.  I take only 2 a day.  One in the morning and one before I go to bed.  I was suppose to call the Pelvic Rehabilitation Center but I did not because I do not know how much they would be or if it is covered by my insurance.  One of the guy's on here sent me some yoga videos.  I have been doing them before I go to bed.   Well here is my update:  I have been going to the bathroom 3 to 4 time a day.  depends on how much I drink.  There is no waiting most of the time.  I start right away.  There is more force most of the time.  So it is working.  There are day's that I do have to wait before I pee but most of the time it 's good.  So that has improved.  Next.  This is for the man that have been on Cyclobenzaprine.  Have you had any change in your orgasm.  My orgasms use to be very intense.  Now there kind of flat.  I still have them and I still have a ejaculation but no feeling.  One out of 4 maybe feel the same but the other's not so good.  Has anyone else had this problem?? This may sound wrong I know there are still man on here that would like any kind of ejaculation.  I do not mean anything by this but should I stop the cyclobenzaprine so my orgasms go back to normal or stay on the pills so I pee better.  Or stop the yoga and call the Pelvic center.  I have not done CIC yet.  I will be waiting until I need it.   So my friends this is my update.  I wish you all well and have a great Sunday  Ken

Hi Ken - Has the flexeril affected anything else that you've noticed? Like energy level; pooping; sleeping; concentration etc?  Thanks for the update. Howard

Also has the Flexeril affected your ability to hold your pee in if you have to since it is relaxing your external sphincter muscle? Good luck. Howard

Good even Howard.  I do take more naps.  And yes energy is lower.  Every thing else seams to be ok.  I don't have any problem holding my pee.  Have never had any accidents.  Ken

I believe this is my exact problem as you stated. I had finally gotten a colonoscopy for unexplained, sudden full-on constipation...which turned out clean, and I was left with the conclusion it has to be a combination of enlarged prostate and anal sphincter spasm. The G.I. doctor said during the colonoscopy my inner sphincter "kept closing up" and called it "spastic." That was the most likely source of my constipation.

    Hi Ken,

I get the feeling that the diagnosis of "tight external sphincter" is more a diagnosis of omission, which is sometimes called a guess. If your symptoms persist, getting more tests and an objective opinion (someone with a different hospital affiliation) makes sense. As to the decrease in orgasm feel, first suspect would be any new meds which in this case is flexeril. You could stop it for a few days to see if that's the case. That might also tell you if it's actually doing any good in the first place.

I have a feel that it is.  Yes going to be stopping it for a few.  I have to go to Georgia to help my daughter for a month.  I will see  Thanks  Ken

Forgot to mention that I started taking magnesium oxide (250mg) pills twice a day for my constipation 2 weeks ago, It has helped clear up my constipation and along with that my ability to CIC has returned to its old normal ease. No side effects as well so thanks Jim, Ken and Hank. Take care. Howard

Glad the magnesium oxide is helping. I try and take between 250mg (2 pills) and 500mg (4 pills) per day. Best to spread them out over at least two separate servings (better absorption) as you seem to be doing. It's a good supplement that has benefits beyond constipation. Helps all over and especially the heart.

Howard, glad to hear you solved your constipation and hence your CIC problem. Things will get better. Just make sure you keep constipation under control. Just as Jim said, magnesium is really good for you. Hank

Hi Ken - Haven't heard from you for a while and just wondering how you are doing with the Flexeril? Does it still help to relax the external sphincter muscle? How are the side effects? All the best. Howard

Good evening Howard.  Nice of you do ask.  Been doing okey Stopped the Flexeril about 3 weeks ago.  I was reading up on it and it said not to take it more then 3 weeks if you have heart trouble.  I am in Georgia.  Going home for a couple of day's and will be back till the first week in April.  Right now I think I have a bladder or kidney infection.  I have some Cispro at home so I will take it then.  Slow steam, dark orange and reddish color and burns at the end.  Some pain after but it goes away.  Been drinking water and cranberry juice.  Sent a e-mail to my doctor to let him know what is going on.  I see him the second week of April.  I want to know why I had 3 infections in 6 month's.  Prostate is wide open so I know it is not that.  Another reason I went off the Flexeril I did not like the orgasm that it gave.  I could not control the muscle.  I could not hold it.  Im back to normal now.  But we will see  Take care and how are you doing  Ken

Hi Ken - I guess Flexeril isn't the fix we had hoped for but it was good try. I am sorry to hear about the problems you are having now. I used to get UTIs and bladder infections from my CIC but I started taking D-Mannose every day and have been free from any infections or irritations for well over a year now.

Also the magnesium oxide (250gm 2X daily) has helped to end my constipation. I also take a probiotic and Benefibre and Colace once in a while. (I call the combination my "stool fuel" ). It is really important to control constipation as I could not get the catheter in a few times but now I am fine again with my CIC.

Please keep us to date on your situation. Take care. Howard
