Upper crushing back pain

Hi all

Had DVT's x 3 and PE x 2. Was on warfarin for 14 years and 4 weeks ago started Rivaroxoban. The day I stared the new Riva i had dvt like pain in my calf i figured it was because my inr was at 1 and then started Riva, anyway left pain was there for about 5 days into it and then went so assumed the Riva started its job.

Fast forward to the last 7 days, ive been getting crushing upper back pain during the day and sharp pain breathing in on my left shoulder blade, chest stabs when leaning forward and back left shoulder when breathing in, the upper back pain comes on during the day but worst at night. Seem to be a little breathless not a lot and had a naggjng dry cough a fortnight ago. Was at the Dr yesterday, said lungs are clear, oxygen and bpm was fine even though bpm was 97! Back pain feels like trapped gas but in my back, and strained muscle feeling. Dr said its my posture at work!! (I dont believe that)

What should I do? Likely to have a PE whilst on Riva or am I dealing with something more sinister like lung cancer??

Im 36 female and on 20mg Riva for 4-5 weeks

Thanks

You could ask for a second opinion. I've been on rivaroxaban for two years (I'm on it for life now) and never had anything like you have described. I've actually forgotten to take my Rivaroxaban for a few days at a time and still never had a problem.

    Hi Kay,

When I had my PEs a year or so ago, I was put on rivaroxaban and was fine for the first few weeks. Then I started to get back pain, followed by severe pain in my left knee. The pains got worse and got into my neck and throat along with massive headaches. My wife called the specialist (she thought I was relapsing or worse) and I was immediately taken off the riveroxaban and put onto warfarin. After 48 hours the pain had mostly gone. I have been on warfarin ever since (about a year now). I understand many are fine on rivaroxaban, but I was not.

Not saying that is your problem, but worth checking.

    All the best

    Peter

    Oh!! Kay

You must be terrified. I get a symptom and I panic. You really have had a bad time. I was told to go straight to A&E if any problems. Go today let them have a proper look. Good luck thinking of you. lizzie x
