upper thigh muscle cramps

Last night at 11:00 I got really severe muscle cramps in both my upper thighs. They came and went for over an hour. I was totally in the worst pain ever. My husband tried to help me take a warm bath besides drinking 2 bottles of water The pain would come approx. every 5 seconds It went up into my vagina area and then would stop only to start again. My husband took me to the emergency room. They started an IV giving me valium and electrolytes with potassium. My muscle cramps were getting worse. After 5 hours of them I just wanted to die. The doctor finally came back in and they gave me morphine. The muscle spasms stopped right after. They sent me home with a prescription for muscle relaxants. I hadn't done anything strenuous and I drink plenty of water. It was the worst experience I've ever had. What could have caused this and what can I do to prevent it from happening again?

start taking B12 vitamins. I was getting severe upper thigh leg cramps that made me cry. I read that my body might be short on vitamin B. I take 2 vitamins every morning. if I am on my feet a lot, I can feel one coming on. I take 2 more when I feel that and it stops them. I don't take over the counter cramping pills because I don't know what I am taking and they can be expensive. B12 vitamins are good for you and very affordable. I hope this helps.

I started having upper thigh cramps within the past year; prior to that only in calves and that was easily fixed by standing up and putting pressure down to my foot. The thighs was a whole other case! So painful. OMG.

In talking with friends who'd had similar experiences, they said it was lack of magnesium (and dehydration). So I now take magnesium tablets with my nighttime pills, keep a bottle of water and Theraworx at my bedside. The cramps come on suddenly and when they do I cannot walk, cannot stand.

Last night I had to CRAWL to get to get to the bathroom. It was miserable. But after drinking some water and applying the Theraworx and rubbing in in really well, the cramps dissipated and, so far, haven't returned. This was the first such episode in @ 3 months, and probably had to do with the working the prior day from 4a till @ 9pm and not drinking enough.

      THAT IS GREAT NEWS!

SEEMS SOME THINGS WORK FOR SOME FOLK AND SOMETIMES THEY DON'T.

I HAVE A NERVE THATS BEING PINCHED BUT I AM BEING TREATED FOR RESTLESS LEG SYNDROME. THE NEUROLOGIST SAID IT WOULD BE RODS D AND MULTIPLE PINS IF I HAVE SURGERY.

I'M SORRY.... I'M HAVING A HARD DAY. WE'VE HAD A LOT OF RAIN AND MY RA DOESN'T HELP AT ALL.

      I GET SO TIRED.

im not happy that you had to go through that as i went through the exact same thing back about 13 yrs ago. the only pain that can be worse is pregnancy contractions , mine always started in the middle of the night and wake me out of a sound sleep and i had to get up at 6 for work, i was reading everything i could find to see what it was but i found nothing. i didnt go the the er cause i couldnt drive n my bfriend had to work also . the pain started in my thighs at 1st then a few days later i started having them in both thighs and all the way across my lower ab and vagina and rectum, it hurt so bad i was crying hard enough i wanted to scream , i couldnt even walk . i had finally read a home recipe for muscle spasms . vinegar water with honey to take out the bad taste, mixed to taste, so one nite when i had it i crawled to my kitchen crying ,mixed about 1/2 a glass of it and drank it down while lying on the floor before i passed out, when i came to it was gone, so whenever id get one i would crawl to the kitchen n mix and drink it. that went on for about 2 mnths . i told my dr about it he just went huh, like it was nothing so i never did find out what it was, i blamed it on my job cause it was very heavy lifting, ive never heard of such a thing and never found any articles or anything about that type of thing, must be very rare, well i hope you got yours taken care of GOD bless you for having to suffer from such a horrible thing, im so glad it went away but now i just get woken up with regular muscle cramps like in my feet, legs upper and lower abdomen ,back, i cant work anymore because i ruined my back and hips from my job , well good luck hope you well.
