Urinary Tract Infection - pain is horrendous

Posted , 38 users are following.

Hello!

Was diagnosed with a UTI a week ago and finished my antibiotics on Sunday. I was thrilled because I went about 5 days without the excruciating pain I'd been experiencing. But as soon as I stopped the pills, my pain came back. My urine sample still tested positive for blood so I'm on round 2 of antibiotics. Has anyone had this constant pain? My pain is there all the time in the bladder area. Any things that helped? Cranberry juice?

Thanks,

Sue

    Hello.

With UTIs the pain is constant, i had it non stop, it was a lot worse when I urinated but it was constant pain. horrible, horrible pain. Best thing I found was a hot water bottle, and cranberry pills, cranberry juice can help, but its best to get as pure cranberry as you can, you can get cranberry pills which I still use now, even after being clear of UTI since January, I still take my cranberry pills everyday! hope it helps, I had what you had the last time I had a UTI (my 8th time in 7 months) and it took 2 courses of antibiotics to get better! Hope you start to feel better soon!

Thank you for responding so quickly. Wow - I would never in a million years think a urinary infection would hurt so much. I actually went to the ER a week ago in excruciating pain - just couldn't believe how much it hurt. I was just thrilled to have a few days  without pain, only to find it all back again today. My doctor says I'm only 'half' healed - LOL - and need another week of antibiotics. Then I have to send in another urine sample for re-testing. I have been taking cranberry juice twice a day - are the pills better? Thanks for the tip of the hot water bottle. I'm going to try that. Hope you're all healed. smile

Hey sue I'm 18 and I'm stuck at home because the uti hurts so bad. I've literally just been sitting on the toilet for 2 hours ecause it somehow makes it hurt less. I just won't to go with my friends and have fun. But not. And I know this post was over a year ago but I'm just searching every website

Is this still happening to you? Cause i have the exact same pain and cant stand or do anything without it hurting

I understand your pain. I can't figure out why but it does feel better to just sit on the toilet. I don't think I've ever had one this bad. Not even the AZO is helping!

It's crazy because I'm doing the exact same thing right now. I have the WORST uti I've ever had. I can't be away from the toilet for longer than 10 minutes. It's 3 am and I've given up being in bed. I've taken permanent residence in the bathroom.

Dmannose works best!! u can buy online at swansons vitamins or ebay, which ever is cheaper!

Doctors usually prescribe the commonest antibiotic first but if the UTI doesnt clear up or comes back quicly you always need a different one. This has happened to me several times. I now know that Trimethoprim doesnt ever work for me and I insist on Nitrofurantoin from the start.

Never found Cranberry to do any good so I'm now trying D Mannose tablets as a preventative measure......only been using a couple of weeks so cant say yet if they work!   [no good for diabetics by the way].

A hot water bottle is ideal for that horrendous pain...I always have one handy as I am very prone to UTIs

Thanks, Marina, for responding. I'll also have to try the hot water bottle and look into those Mannose tablets. Still shocked at how painful they are. Hope you never have one again. smile

    Hi Sue,

I feel your pain (literally!) as we speak I have a chronic UTI and feel as though someone is pooring acid down my urinary tract the burning sensation is so severe it often causes vomiting. I am 28 and I've been suffering recurring UTI's since I was 21. I drink cranberry juice most days, take cranberry tablets every day (20,000mg) and take a product called Hiprex. I've found that powdered products such as Ural do nothing and I am also now resistant to most antibiotics. This is due to doctors for so many years prescribing rubbish antibiotics, and me not questioning them because I'd take anything to stop the pain. I have found 99% of doctors do not take UTI's seriously, even when I have presented to surgeries sobbing uncontrollably from the pain. I hope you don't have recurrent UTI's like I do & feel better really soon!!

      Hi,

I wish I knew! I don't know if there are any permanent measures to stop it. I'd see a urologist not a local doctor. Preventative measures for me include; no wine, avoid foods such as chocolate, orange juice, pineapple, oranges/lemons/limes and tomatoes as they are all acidic & only make the problem so much worse! Also coffee & smoking. Try to drink a min of 2 liters of water a day. Also try cranberry tablets

      Good luck!

I hope you get your uti sorted out if anyone has any advice on how I could get rid of thus uti I would be really grateful as I'm in a lot of pain!!

Hi everyone sorry about the essay but Im wondering if you can help??.

I've suffered with reaccuring uti's for over 10 years now.

I'm at the end of my tether!. After been treat with trimoprhrim for years, October last year after a ultrasound on my kidney and bladder I was given a new antibiotic called nitrofuration, i was told my body had built up an immunity to the trimoprhrim and that the new tablets where a preventative antibiotic and i needed to take it after sex as they believed that was likely the cause of my infections.

Unfortunately last year due to my absences from work i lost my job which was really upsetting for me. The new antibiotics where like a breath of fresh air to me and seemed to work really well, up until recently the uti's are back again! I've been ill from work on 2 occasions now in the past month! The uti's are so uncomfortable and up until recently have been giving me very bad pelvic pains, i work with children and the uti's often leave me feeling run down and confused.

More worrying my urine sample are showing high levels white blood cells and blood in my urine. I've read up on this and it's worrying me seeing all the possible causes.

I''m booked in to see my gynaecologist aswell on Friday to see if there is any problems in that region which could be causing me to keep falling I'll as I've also been experiencing bleeding after sex .

I've got a lot going on at the moment and I'm worried sick! Even more so at the fact that the sickness absences from work could possibly mean I could get the sack again which is the last thing I need.

Has anyone has similar experiences or could offer me any help and advice.

Every time I seem to go to the doctor's they seem to fob me off with more antibiotics.

    Thanks sarah

Sue I can relate to your situation all too well. Last year I kept having many UTIs and had to go to the doctor a few times before it went away.  Mean while the pain was horrible! Cranberry juice does help a lot but what helped me the most was Cystex my doctor recommened it and it really did wonders when i just wanted to scream or cry because of the burning pain. I hope this helps! Feel better!
