Urolift - Review

Most of the Urolift reviews I see are posted on the Urolift website or on doctors websites where they can pick only the 5 star reviews. I think I was given an unrealistic expectation based on all the glowing reviews.I just had the procedure 3 days ago and am a bit worried that I'm much worse off than before the procedure I'm hoping for some big changes this week. The procedure was way more painful than what I was led to believe. Don't buy the "mildly uncomfortable" it was extremely painful, I thought I was going to pass out. What has me most concerned is that most people claim they can pee like a race horse right after and for me 3 days later, it is more difficult than ever to pee. I'll give it a week but right now, I'm concerned

Would be interested to hear from those of you who had it in Oct 2018. I had the urolift in March of 2016, and am now planning on having it a 2nd time as my symptoms have reoccurred. My doc says I can do it twice but after that his next suggestion would be the green light laser. I had it done under iv sedation, so no memory of that. It was quite uncomfortable for a day or 2 after, peeing frequently and feeling pressure. I'm not anxious to go thru that again, but retaining the sexual performance as before is important to me, and urolift did preserve that. Doctor stated that having it done once more is possible to be a permanent solution but can not promise. Even if I could get 5 more years with a 2nd procedure would be worth it. The side effects of the drugs are not worth it for me. I do take Cardura which has fewer side effects but it's efficacy has kind of worn off. The urolift procedure is obviously not a cure all, but if sexual function is important then I would say urolift is your best bet to try.

Sir, I just had the procedure 7 days ago. I have the same concerns you did. I am scared that I made a mistake. I am no better now than I was before. How are you now 16 months later?

To ponchlomas; So many things can happen after surgery. We all have our individual issues.

My suggestion is for you to contact your urologist & review your situation with your doctor.

I wish you the best of luck.

I had the Urolift procedure 18 months ago and had less than ideal results. Actually, I had a really bad experience. i have been unable to find any negative online comments as I think Neotract buries them on the web. Full disclosure: I am a health care provider myself. I chose the Urolift as I am 59 years old and wanted the least invasive procedure with the least amount of possible post-op complications.

I hope other people (besides the highlighted glowing patient reports) had better results than me. I went to a Nationally recognized hospital. They promised high and delivered low. Everything that could go wrong went wrong. I would like to start a forum on patients who have had a bad experience like me.

I've been considering urolift, but a few things bother me about the idea. It's an implant. I worry about infection, irritation, etc.

I worry that if I resume bicycle riding, it will still be uncomfortable because the prostate hasn't been reduced, just had some sutures put in. I'm also worried that the sutures might be more uncomfortable when sitting on a bicycle seat.

The other option my urologist suggested is Rezum. They use steam to kill prostate tissue and open up the flow. The downside he mentioned is a post-procedure catheter and feeling like you're peeing fire for a month after.

Prior to getting a negative biopsy result, I was assuming cancer and thought stereotactic surgery would be the best option, as it kills the cancer with a focused beam and leaves other tissue unharmed. I wonder if they can do that for BPH?

"The downside he mentioned is a post-procedure catheter and feeling like you're peeing fire for a month after."

I had the Rezum procedure over three years ago. I self-cathed twice the day of the procedure (the first of these was training) and that was it. An in-dwelling Foley catheter was never used.

Urination was a little painful for a week, but nowhere near "peeing fire."

Of course, your results may vary.

      Good luck,

      Bill

How satisfied with the results are you? Do you urinate like a younger man? No need for meds? Any imparement of sexual function?

I started getting irritation/UTI from bicycling, so for that and other, (non-medical), reasons, I stopped. Does Resum reduce prostate size significantly?

      William40221,

There is a procedure called Focal Laser Ablation (FLA) That was originally developed to treat prostate cancer, but has been adapted recently to treat BPH. They do it with the patient inside an MRI machine so they can see exactly what they are ablating. There are only a few places in the US that do it that I know of. The one many people on this forum prefer is Dr Karamanian in Houston Texas. Another is Dr Eric Walser in Galveston Texas. Another is the Sperling Prostate Center in Delray Beach Florida. The procedure had not been covered by insurance or Medicare, but Dr Walser said some part of it was starting to be covered in a communication last April 2020.

      Best Wishes,

      TKM (Thomas)

I had urolift done in middle Jan this yr. Im 87 years old - main concern was waking every 2 hrs or less to pee. Procedure was a snap-- up and off the table in no time but couldnt pee. they said to wait 3 or 4 hrs and if you still couldnt pee go to emergency rm. A big mistake. I should have told them that Im not leaving this office until I can pee or place a catheter before you close this office.

I stayed in ER for 7 hrs in agony before they placed a catheter. They talked about mild discomfort.

What a lie. The next 3 weeks was pure agony. -they took the catheter off , I did pee --ps pain, p***g clots, thinking the clot was going to cause wearing another catheter, staying by the toilet, waking up more that 5 times a night. went back to the dr. He said it may take 3 months or more for the procedure to work. What!! that news I hadn't heard. I went back the first week in May almost 5 months since the procedure. Told the Dr. no change. He said well you probable have an overactivee bladder. Wrote a proscription for Myrbetriq for my bladder. Still did not work... I went on line to Consumer Lab... joined them and they suggested to try beta-sitosterol by a company call "Pure" encapsulation. Ordered it took 2 tab before bed and slept like a baby. Got up only 2 times and most of the time I sleep 5-6 hrs straight. Sorry this took so long but I thought this might be useful

      Buddy

It does work. I had mine done over 7 years ago 4 clips. I asked for a catheter because of the problem they were see after the men went home. A catheter should be put in for a few days your prostate will be swollen when you leave the hospital.

I had my catheter talking out after 3 days. I was good to go in a week Still open after 7 years

      Good luck Ken

Had my Urolift on Tuesday july 13, 2021. My Uro does not do it with a local. He said it was just too painful for most patients. They gave me something to relax me in my IV in the prep room and when I went into surgery knocked me completely out. I compare it to a colonoscopy level sedation. When they first took me to the operating I had to scoot over on the operating table from the stretcher. I was Still buzzing from the IV hit they gave me. They shuffled a few things around and I heard the anesthesiologist say lets put him to sleep before we do that and then I woke up. Just like that. I didnt have a catheter in when I woke up but looking at my paperwork they probably had one in for 30 min or so before they woke me up. I definitely did not want to go home with one. The burning urge to pee was horrible. I asked the nurse if I could go to the restroom and she told me they had just drained my bladder and there was no need to but she let me go anyway and she was right. No pee in there at all. Kicked me out of the surgery center with a scrip for tramadol for pain and pyridium to soothe the irritation in my urethra and instructions to drink and drink and drink. AZO is generic for the pyridium and is over the counter. It is designed for UTI's and I don't know if it actually helps this kind of irritation but I took it anyway. Turns your pee bright orange also. So, I started pounding down the fluids. The burning urge to pee from all the fluids i was taking in was brutal. There was no way to hold that. Y'all all know that "I have to go NOW" feeling. Well, figure that times five. And it generally burned though the whole length of my dick and (glad I'm not so big so not so far to burn, lol) then felt like I was p*****g wildcats right in the tip. He must have been rough right there when he first put the scope in. Other than that I don't know why it hurts so bad right there. Dont even think you're going to do that standing up. I had to sit then press up on the toilet seat to get as straight as I could to pee and then just a trickle. I peed out some blood and a couple of blood clots the first couple of times I went and my bleeding stopped around mid afternoon. That went on for two days. Unrelenting. Friday, I noticed I was holding my bladder longer before that burning urge hit and my flow was definitely better. The burning in my dick had eased off but the wildcats were still tearing up the tip. Saturday, everything was better including the tip a little bit. It's Sunday now and I'm still a bit better than yesterday. I don't know who can go back to work in two days like I have read but I wouldn't have dreamed of leaving the house before Friday. That urge to pee was too brutal. I couldnt even think of getting away from my bathroom. Even now I'll only stay out doing errands for a short while. When that urge to go hits you have to go and I'm not sitting down away from the house. Still haven't peed standing up. Not going to for a bit more. Other than what I have already described I haven't really had any pain to speak of. My dick has hurt (not the burning) a little and I definitely cant sit on anything hard at all and don't sit straight down on anything. I kinda sit on the side of my hip and then roll the rest of the way on my butt. No strenuous activity for two weeks. They told me not to get impatient and that the first few days could be tough. I'm still just hanging out, healing and drinking fluids. Follow up appt on Aug 10. Way too early to judge results. Still on my flomax for now. I know I have told some pretty rough stuff here but I wish I had heard this kind of stuff rather than seeing some of the unrealistic things that I saw on the net. I would have been better prepared mentally. On the down hill trail now though and yes, still glad I did it.

      Hey Buddy

Happy that you are doing good. I was put out when I had mine. It was done in a surgery center.

I ask for a catheter because of the research that I found most men cannot pee when they go home. I did not want that problem. I only hand it for 2 days. I was fine in about a week. No medication at all. I was on Flomax and Rapaflo before the procedure told my doctor no way. It took my ejaculation away and my orgasm.

Just keep doing what you are doing no sex for 4 week. This is because they want the clips to a here to the prostate.

I had mine over 7 years ago still open. Good luck......Ken

Kenneth you were smart. Wished I read some of the response, i would not have left the doctors office until I had the catheter. Anyway at my age 86 maybe the urolift has less chance of working. I' m still waiting after 7 months.

Like I said earlier , I started taking pills by "Pure encapsulation" and get up at night only 2 times instead of 5 or 6.

If the prostate is the problem and it was pulled apart you should not have a problem. Just keep doing what you are doing.

It may be something to do with your bladder and your age.

      Good luck.....Ken
