Urticaria and Angiodema together

Posted , 6 users are following.

After suffering from skin itching ,feet and hands ,large flat lumps ,some the size of a dinner plate ,all over my body, and in my mouth ,finally was seen by a Dermatologist (10 month wait ) I was looked at and told to take an anti histamine , and come back in 6 months. I ended up taking Piriton ,the one that gave me least side effects. No known cause for these two problems ,so how can a guess solve it, ?my body swells for no particular reason, to such an extent that sometimes my legs are so swollen ,I can't get my jeans on, and I hurt ,all over . Am I to put up with this for ever ,or can a private Dermatologist be more helpful ,because ,quite frankly ,I am at the end of my tether . ,and if these awful things are terminal ,,,I no longer care .

Really feel for you. i have been diagnosed with chronic urticaria and have been on medication for 3 years now. i came up with red hot, itching weals or hives over my body which lasted hours and then slowly faded away. i also had swelling and joint pain and still get this. i have managed to get these hives under control by taking Fexofenadine 180mg morning and evening as well as Ranitidine morning and evening. i feel a different person, but sure know when i have missed a dose. The specialists have never been able to tell me what causing this condition. im sure its not been researched into enough.

Trust you get help and relief soon.

Hello ,yes ,I had those huge hot weals, awful. and no explanation from the so called experts. My arms and legs look like frog spawn mottled ,red ,then blue and swollen .I don't understand why everything hurts ,or how it started , I did try the Fexofenadine ,but my body is super sensitive to most drugs, I just use Piriton .which does make the frog spawn display go away. My skin also looks like crepe paper ,but I was given E45 cream which does help, Can't wear short sleeves anymore ,I look like a reptile .Seemingly I have an allergy to "Something " but no one has bothered to do any tests. So I don't really think it is an allergy .It's a good fall back excuse for WE DON'T KNOW ,,or ,,care .Thank you for sharing ,it's awful trying to cope with this thing by myself. x

besides the meds already mentioned i also use hydroxyzine for itching. for skin topical ointments use by benedryl and others otc products and cortizone ointments. try using soaps and body washes with natural ingredients no added chemicals especially sodium lauryal sulfate . after bathing use a body oil on wash cloth to dry down with. by the time your dry your body is also protected with oil used , such as coconut, palm, skinsosoft, aloevera etc.

Hello .you obviously aren't English ,, by your calling a flannel ..a wash cloth. I use rose shower gel ,and don't rub my skin ,and then use E45 ,and, now, I tend to ignore it ,as it seems as though it is here to stay.

it is nice to hear from other sufferers, can't think of another word that fits .It is visually awful, and I am extremely aware of my fat legs ,

hi Jaqueline, u call a wash cloth a flannel. yes in US a flannel is a type of fabric. isnt it interesting the differences in language from UK and US. A boot is the trunk of a car UK. In US a boot is what is like a shoe but with high calf length in the US. ie cowboy boots.

sorry i could not help out more to the cause but its something that does not have a easy answer as to what the cause. how ever I have learned how to manage the miserable itching.

Hello. funny how words can give you away, as you say our translation of some words have totally different concepts with yours, A tart here can mean either a bun, or a girl with low morals

Think I can help you with the itching .CALAMINE lotion ,it stops the itching and takes the redness away .It's cheap ,it works ,and can be bought at any supermarket ,or pharmacy here ,Do hope you have it over there. Tell me if you do.

we have calamine lotion in the US. It doesnt seem to help. as the itching in my case is a immune issue .

Sorry about your internal Itch, how on earth do you scratch that ?? My lateral sense of humour kicks in ,thank goodness, and keeps me fairly sane coping with these unknown ,untreatable problems ,or as I call them "situations" of which I have more than one. I put it down to a fact that I could possibly have run over a fairy .Don't give in XX

    Hello Jacqueline

Found your blog on URTICARIA? I have Chronic Urticaria...its an immune issue. i have had it three times in my life each time lasting 2 years then go into remission for over ten years inbetween. i was able to control the hives with antihistamine then but as I am now older 67..... the hives were more severe so I have had to take Prednisone long term for quality if life. i also take Fexofinidine morning and night. FORTUNATELY I have been able to stay on a low dose Prednisone unless I have a breakout then I have to go up on PREDNISONE then can slowly go back down.. My trigger seems to be stress. Each time i broke out it was due to a stressful time in my life. Just wish there was a more natural medication to rid of these hives!

    Please keep us posted.

Hello Wendy ,iv'e had these two issues for just over a year, and my GP didn't help by not referring me to a consultant. I was taken to A&E for a totally different reason, and it started then. and I swear it was caught in the ambulance or an A&E trolley. I gradually became smothered in frog spawn designs ,and the mass of swollen masses .and not seen by the G P so I suffered for almost a year ,being told .eventually that the consultant thought it was these two Skin things. Stress does seem to be part, a big part of my life, and probably guilty. When the lumps first occurred, I couldn't get my jeans on my legs were so big .No pain, just fat ,or ,whatever it is . The lumps have gone down .but not enough to make me look good in jeans anymore,

Super sensitive to drugs, (another problem) I do wear flight socks that help with the swelling legs Still puzzled by the rash .Which only appears now if I get super stressed, but a day on Piriton calms it down. Thank you for adding ,always ready for some help

Such an unsightly "Disease" I don't do anything with it, don't know how or what to do with it .It seems to be tidal ,it comes and goes, so It gets ignored ,unless I can't get my jeans on !!!

hello ,,how awful, for you to be suffering so much. One good thing is ,you are using alternative medication .I do not use prescription drugs , I use Vitamins and Minerals for everything.

Have you tried Piriton for the hives ?and calamine lotion for the itchy bits ?Both excellent products ,and work very well for me , They can be bought ,so no problem there I do get some large Angiodema lumps ,usually on my legs ,I just massage them ,which does help to reduce them

Hope these suggestions may help. Compared to you ,my probs are just minor irritations .

Boots chemist do sell both the products

      hi..

no have'nt used that medicines..n in my case nothing was working..,

      i am folitrax tab n teczine m goutnil ...

calamine was not useful for me ..as my case was severe...

n doctors also told me that yet thry have'nt come across such a case...

sounds absolutely dreadful ,I use Alternatives ,because of the nasties that prescription drugs cause .I find it a tad mystifying ,that doctors do NOT know what causes these two "THINGS " so how can they prescribe for the unknown .

I hope you don't have this to deal with every day. big hug for you Jacqueline x

doctors have done so many tests to find out cause ..but nothing was helpful.....anyway ...atleast i have started living normal again..

      anywae ..

u too tc ....because people who are under gong this issues only can understand ...who r facing ....

In INDIA ..doctors havent come across such cases ..which is so much severe..

Hello sneha ,didn't realise you lived so far away ,not a problem really ,I did read that non white skins do suffer a whole lot more with these two awful intrusions, The facial swellings must be a bit scary, and in particular if they get into the mouth and throat .Mine don't do that ,but they do get quite large and flat , no pain ,thank goodness ,I don't take much notice of them anymore ,it only causes stress ,which they seem to like ,so i ignore them. and let them go when they are ready ,not too long now , Stay calm and don't stress .I did also read ,that they can disappear for ever .

Glad you are coping so well. Big hug for you Jacqueline x
