Using crutches for Planters Fasciitis

I was diagnosed with planters fasciitis in my right foot about a month ago.  The pain in my foot seemed to be getting worse than better so I decided to start using crutches to stay off of it as much as I could. I’m just wondering how long I’ll have to be on crutches until this unbearable pain finally decides to go.  My gp never mentioned to me about using crutches for my affected foot.  He only gave me a prescription for an ointment for the pain. Witch by the way hasn’t been affective what so ever.  Should I be using something else other than the crutches?  So far using my crutches has been the only thing that’s help. But I don’t want to have to be on crutches anymore than I have to be. What else is there to try? Oh and I’ve also use a frozen water bottle on my foot twice already. Does a splint help at all?

    Funny I just had knee surgery and am on crutches for six weeks (I'm into 1 week now) and have developed PF from using the crutches and am wondering what I can do to keep it from getting worse? I think being at home, wearing soft sandals and all the pivoting I'm doing is makeing it worse. On the other hand I'm in a brace too. I usually am good about stretching my calves but am not able to do that at all now.

      I don't how that happen . I've never head anyone other than yourself to develop pf by just being on crutches. Actually crutches help me a great deal to keep the weight off my foot long enough for the pain to subside enough that i could put my weight back on my foot to be able to walk again without the usage of crutches. Id do the same thing again if I had to be on the crutches for awhile.

    I've been there. I play a lot of pickleball and had a dreadful case of plantar fasciitis for about a year. Here is how I have been able to manage it so that it is no longer an issue. I say manage it because I have to do this after every time I play pickleball.

    I take 1/4 of a 10mg cyclobenzaprine right after pickleball or any exercise, and then another 1/4 in about 3-4 hours and then another in 3-4 hours. I don't take it all at once as it can make me tired if I do that. Then I use a electric massager on my lower leg, below the knee, multiple times later in the day. I don't use it on my feet or anywhere else on my body - only on my lower leg. I use it on all of the muscles of my calves, the muscle in front by the shin. I try to hit all the tender places, no bones, but tender muscles.

    I used to have pain every morning that was crippling and had pain throughout the day and couldn't really play or exercise to my fullest because of the plantar fasciitis. This is no longer an issue!!

    For me this has been live changing!

    To be clear. I take 2.5mg of cyclobenzaprine (generic flexeril) immediately after a workout and keep doing it every 3-4 hours.

    Then, and this is the most important aspect, I use an electric massager on my calves and lower leg on and off every few hours for about 10 minutes each leg trying to work on spots that feel they need it. The more you massage your lower leg the better you will feel.

    The plantar fasciitis is all about the lower leg muscles! Those muscles are what is causing the foot pain - remember that!!

    Do this and you will definitely change your life! Let me know if you have any questions.

      Mike thankfully I haven't had to be back on the crutches for awhile now. My GP isn't doing anything for me or suggesting anything to try . I was actually the one that decided to put myself on crutches when my foot was really bothering me. I had to go on the crutches two different time bow for the same foot. Both times i was on the crutches for three to four weeks. But i think mine is more arthritis related more so that the pf. Ive tried to tell my doctor that but hes not listening yo me when i say that. I just hope mine doesnt get bad again.
