UTI still present after months of antibiotics

Hey guys,

I'm a 27 yo male and since February of this year, I've been experiencing UTI. For the past 6 months, I've been on and off of antibiotics. Last month was the latest antibiotics where I was on Levaquin 750 mg, once a day, for 30 days. I took the urine test a few days after the medication was done and it shows that bacteria is still present!

This is super frustrating and I have no idea what's happening. For a detailed history of the tests I have done this year: https://patient.info/forums/discuss/pain-near-left-testicle-perineum-area-that-radiates-down-leg-and-sole-of-foot-frequent-urination-765568

Hoping anyone has any insight or experienced similar issues.

Jarad, I have been through this for years and I know how bad it is. It turns out that some bacteria are multiresistant, that is, immune to various types of antibiotics, even the strongest ones.

I was only able to get rid of the bacteria I had after taking my fourth antibiotic.

So keep seeing your doctor and having urine tests and never stop the antibiotic therapy before the time determined by your doctor.

You will get rid of it.

Is the bacteria E.Coli? I have been battling it since July 2.

The first urinalysis in February showed Proteus mirabilis. But since then, none of the results specifically ID'd a bacteria for some reason.

Update (2021-10-19): My latest urine test results finally show that everything is clear! I never thought this day would come. Erythrocytes are within the limit, no bacteria. I'm really hoping this is not a one-off thing and that it stays good.

The only changes I made to my diet/supplements is that in addition to twice a day of AOR Prostate Support that was advised by my doctor (been taking this for several months now), I started taking one pill of Cranberry Extract + D-Mannose (both come in the same pill) and one pill of Saw Palmetto every day. I heard that D-Mannose might work for some people experiencing UTI and I just took a shot at it. I'm not sure if that's what actually worked, but that's the main thing that was changed.

Antibiotics do get rid of ongoing symptoms of bacteria, but the medication doesnt completely get rid of bacterial growth, for some of the cases of patients.
