UTI symptoms for 3 months, but NO UTI! HELP :(

Hi all!

I'm new to the site, and I'm so desperate for any kind of inkling as to what's happening to me.

So let me start from the very beginning - End of March 2016, I got a horrible UTI (my very first one ever) , burning, urgency, couldn't pee, even throwing up and not being able to eat. I went to the doctor the next day and the doctor confirmed that I had a UTI and gave me a 5 day course of Ciprofloxacin. After finishing that, all seemed well... Until a few weeks later.

Same thing started happening, not QUITE as extreme as the first infection, but the pain and urgency was pretty intense. I ended up in the ER 3 times within 2 months trying to figure out what the heck was wrong with me. All urine cultures came back fine. Blood work came back fine. Had a CT scan, that came back clear. 2 ultrasounds came back clear. All urinalysis came back clear every time. I did have a pelvic exam and they found Bacterial Vaginosis, I took the 7 day course of Flagyl for that, and that seemed to clear up.

The third time in the ER, the ER nurse finally brushed it all off as Interstitial Cystitis because she couldn't find anything else wrong with me. I saw my urologist yesterday and he seems to think my pelvic floor might be too tight and i can't empty my bladder all the way. Gave me Flomax to take... NEVER AGAIN. It has made the pain and urgency much worse and made it even harder to empty my bladder all the way.

I feel like I have to pee CONSTANTLY. Every 10-20 minutes I'm running to a bathroom. and it hurts. When my bladder is full, and when its empty. I constantly feel so incredibly uncomfortable unless i've taken the pyridium and even then sometimes that doesn't help. I've cut out all the foods and drinks the doctor said to, I only drink water now. No juice, soda, nothing. I take Pyridium and Phenergan (nausea medicine) every night before I go to bed otherwise I will NOT be able to sleep. I take max strength cranberry pills every morning to prevent UTI's. a Probiotic every night..

This is affecting my work life, my personal life, and all around just making me really depressed. I don't feel like I'll ever feel normal again. If anyone has any insight, I would REALLY, really appreciate it. sad

I'm having a really bad day today. I guess a "flare" is what the doctors would say. Does anyone have any relaxation tips or tricks that they do to help them? I've downed water all day and taken uricalm but the longer i sit the worse it gets.

So sorry you are feeling bad.   I have very tight pelvis with no incontinence.  If that's what you have search for "relaxation exercises for short tight pelvic floor muscles" .    I used a short video showing how to do "the clock".   Basically you are raising your bottom, then each cheek  off the floor  whilst breathing in through your nose and out through your mouth.   I use that and I also lie on floor breathing in through nose and out through mouth whilst feeling the pelvic muscles relax.   For my problem it is recommended to be gentle and never do kegals and don't tighten the muscles.

I can't promise it will work for you as you may have different symptoms to me.  I do 5 of each exercise.  I take my time and do it very gently.  I do whole bottom first, rest, then I do the right cheek, rest again, do left cheek rest again etc etc.  I stay on floor for about 15/20 mins. I mentioned it to my Doctor and he said lots of people get good results from relaxing their pelvic muscles.   I find about an hour or two later i'm not as tight and on some occasions the pain went completely.   I didn't believe in this sort of thing and was so shocked when it worked.

I'm presuming results depend on where the pain is coming from.   These exercises would never have helped me when I was having stabbing pains in my urethra.

If your pain is stress and tight pelvis related then well worth a try.

      Good luck.

That's what the doctor thinks it is. A tight pelvic floor. I can't empty my bladder all the way when I go to the bathroom which is causing some fierce pain in my bladder. Thank you for the advice!

Are you on a muscle relaxant? Maybe that would help the tight pelvic floor. Even an anxiety med might do that. Xx

    Hi all.

I know I haven't written in a few weeks. Things seemed like they were getting a little better. I've just gone on vacation 2 states over from where I live and the pain is so bad it hurts so stand up. All I can do is lay on the couch. I feel like I have a fever but I'm not sure. Any ideas to ease the pain? Or should I find an urgent care facility?

    Hi Brianna!

Your post caught my attention as I am struggling with the same symptoms.

I am 24 years old and don't know what to do.

But it's very important that you get a cystoscopy. Doctors might write it off cause you are young, but I was lucky enough to have a urologist do this first thing.

My situation is definitely more of a worst case scenario, but the doctor found a low grade non invasive tumor in my bladder. I had it removed and my urologist said it was 'barely cancer' haha

But I am lucky to have had my doctor check.

This happened last November and I have not had any recurrences yet. But I have having your exact symptoms.

I feel like my bladder has been damaged somehow!

I am not trying to scare you. But seriously go get a cystoscopy. Demand it!

But please post and let me know if they figure out what the problem is!
