UTI WON'T GO AWAY

So this is my first time writing on this forum...I never thought I'd be in this serious situation . I'm 20 years old and had a uti for about 1.5 months now....I've been on cipro (3 days), bactrim (7 days), nitrofurantoin (7 days), and nitrofurantoin again (10 days). It's been three days since I've finished my last batch of antibiotics and I STILL feel worst than ever. I even tried taking 100% pure D-MANNOSE which helped only a little. My gyn initially thought I had a yeast infection and put me on a one day pill...still nothing. Then on my second visit she was out of ideas referred me to a urologist. This is my second time visiting my urologist (today), and she was also out of ideas and referred me to a sonogram , because she suspects I have a kidney stone....I don't believe I have one since the urine cultures (al three of them showed no powder or crystals). I still feel the BURNIng in my urethra only ...which is weird . I talked to my doctor about IC but she says it's not possible because my urine culture always comes back with high levels of ecoli . I live in NYC and I feel hopeless!!!!!!! What do you guys think I should do?

I totally thought I was the only one... I've been getting on and off yeast infections, and It's for two years. I've had more than 7 doses of antibiotics, and have taken many vitamins and cranberry pills, nothing works. my blood tests, thyroid tests, pap smears, came back fine... but my UTI tests always come back with e coli or positive. I'm SO tired. I feel so sick. My side hurts, my bladder has spasms, and now I'm constipated. I hope this doesn't turn into bladder cancer. I finally got referred to a urologist, but I'm afraid it will be bad news, or the run around like I've been getting.

me too- im so depressed - after my appendectomy the doctor did something wrong to my lower left abdomen so im left with permanent tear under the left inserted troca , got a MRSA infection from the hospital and then my UTI started - 7 so far, it's been over 1.5 year. im so depressed- and been to the ER more than 4 times and none of their stupid and generic medications work. tried keflex gave me legs cramps and could not walk, tried nitrofurantoin and did not work, tried doxycycline worked a bit and my uti came back, tried bactrim and stopped quickly because it gave me tendon problems and tear in my finger and so levaquin- . to be honest with you , europe medications are the best because they are brand names , unlike generic drugs have 20-25 % of the brand names main ingredients only with lower concentration and with serious side effects - and do not tell me no because i know. many people told me about fosfomycin which is used in europe and it is very good and unfortunately is not used here. I'm so sad because while I'm speaking i have a uti and im on antibiotics with burning sensation and pain on my lower left abdomen and groin and acidic ph 6.0 which doctors never like to talk about acidic ph. i feel that may be fungus infection or metabolic acidosis- i have no clue and im a male kind of hahaha. please help . and now anything i eat my stomach hurts and cannot pee comfortably and pain before and after urination and my tooth hurts too when i have the uti infection . it is so strange what is happening to me- please god help me

Hi Jen, you seem to have been on everything and suffered everything. I'm sure I've posted about Cipro and the fluoroquinolones on here before. Have you had Cipro in the past? Levaquin is in the same class which means it has the same horrible side effects and will add to any damage you already have from Cipro (if you've taken it). Take a look at the fluoroquinolone discussions on this forum to see what I mean.
How long were you on the D mannose for? It can take weeks or months for it to deal with E.coli as the bug colonies form a protective film over themselves (the bio-film) which most antibiotics can't penetrate. Not even Cipro or Levaquin.
Or you may be right and it is fungal - any of the antibiotics could have opened up the door for a fungal infection to get started. You sound like you need a full set of cultures taken so they can actually pinpoint what is causing your problem instead of throwing packet after packet of 'lets try this' antibiotics.
I'm in Europe and I can tell you that we have generic labels too. I think your problem is not so much what is in the verious things they give you but that they don't know exactly what to give you. Don't let them mess you about any more. Get one doctor to take you seriously and order a complete range of tests so you both know what you're dealing with here.

Hey there Jen,
I hope you are doing well.
Can you describe your pain in your urethra? I think I am experiencing something similar but I don't know - I had a bladder infection a week ago and recieved nitrofuratin for 7 days. But I still have a very small stinging/discomfort pain in my urethra which is worse 1 - 2 minutes after I urinate.
Is this what you started with before you were diagnosed?

Hey Abby,
My advice is to wait a maximum 5 days and see if your symptoms are still the same. For me it started out just like you-- I burned 24/7 mostly in the urethra area and it was worst after urinating. The burning feeling was relieved simply when I was sitting on the toilet. I found out later from my physical therapist that sitting on the toliet relieves burning pain for people with pelvic floor dysfunction (I was diagnosed shortly after getting the uti). If you have mostly burning pain or sharp pain in your rectum---well mostly burning then you might have pelvic floor dysfunction from your muscles guarding your pelvic floor. For this you need to see a uro gyn. I hope this helps. In the meantime, I suggest that you avoid sitting down for prolonged period of time and try doing exercises on your back. Like the yoga baby pose lol you can search it on YouTube , it's basically what I learned in physical therapy. I hope you feel better ??

Hello All
So Back in 2015 I became unbelievably I'll. No one diagnosed me with anything and several providers began to ask me if I was depressed which is the most offensive thing ever when a person is truly suffering with something. I had one provider look at me with so much sympathy and say, "There is obviously something systemic going on here, but I can only do what I can do, you probably need to see an Endo" Anyhow that was one of the most difficult times in my life health wise. I was put on several antibiotics of which Levaquin and Bactrim was among them. They affected me in such a negative way that I didn't recover for about 5 months only by God's mercy and grace. So fast forward to one year later-2016. I began to have a foul smell to my urine. No burning. No pain. I'd remember smelling that same smell when I was taking care of my grandmother and she was later diagnosed with a UTI. So I go to the gyno and I have a UTI. They prescribe me Macrobid only to turn around two days later and says culture calls for a drug that I am allergic to. So they come up with a round about idea to give me shots of Rocephin once a week for three weeks. While being treated smell went away. I was happy. One week later- smell is back now with a little bit more frequency but nothing major. They tell me to come back to do another dipstick. No infection. Still inhale the smell but what am I supposed to do? Frequency/urgency goes away but smell and minor discomfort remain. I see another doc in 2017 and mention it briefly along with an array of other issues. She wants urgine sample. They tell me it's clean but will still send it away for culture. Comes back clean however they noticed trace blood in urine. They tell me that if my next culture is like that they will send me to urologist. Still I have this smell since 2016. About 6 mos later they find blood again. Sends me to urologist. He looks under a microscope and says that he couldn't find a single molecule of blood and there must be at least 3 molecules before he begins to look for answers. I tell him about the smell and occasional discomfort. He's not fazed. Tells me to see him 6 mos. two weeks later I'm burning, in pain and in the bathroom repeatedly. Go back to my gyno. Culture comes back positive. I am out on Augmentin for seven days. I feel really good while on it. And the smell is gone however on day 4 discomfort returns and I don't feel as good as I did the first 3 days. I message the nurse. She says finish meds and drink 12 glasses of water to flush system and return. I then miss my period in this process . (I'm 43). So now I'm concerned. I message nurse and tell her I am going to make an appointment to see my gyno. Not just a urine test. She said I would have to see a NP because books are full. Now I'm ticked. I decide to message my urologist who tells me to come in. I do and leave a sample. It's infected and they have to culture it. I won't get results for 48 hours. This was yesterday. I've been praying for the Lord to deliver me from whatever this is! I pray ok not pregnant. I don't see how I could be but then again my mom thinks I'm going through menopause. Oh and yes I did get yeast and vulvodynia I've had for years (undiagnosed ). What is going on? Has anyone thought about kidneys in all of this? I've been very prayerful and hoping that whatever it is will be revealed and resolved. We pay so much money to be bounced around or even shrugged off. My urine should not stink! I drink plenty of water.

So, i am from Zagreb, Croatia. I am here because i went across all possible croatian, english, american sites and forums trying to find a soultion.
I have 5 year history of UTI’s with horrible pain, burning etc. Only once they found e.coli in urine culture and thats it. But urine sediment is always filled with blood cells and bacteria. But they can never seem to isolate any.
I am currently in Hamburg, Germany trying to find treatment here.
I have been taking profilactic therapy with Ninur 50mg for 6 months and it was better, got no infections at that time.
Currently, i have burning urethra and feeling like i am going to pee myself. But i never do, just feels like that. Its been lasting for one month. I am going crazy. I am so desperate and so anxious. I cant believe this is happening to me at age 25. I am currently taking cefixime cln 400mg once per day for 10 days, and some vaginal pills Medazol 100mg (which i found out can make thrust really badly). I dont know what to do anymore? Ive been on and off antibiotics for 5 years. Last year i had inflammations in jan, feb, mar, april, may. I took 6 antibiotics in 5 months. My insides were completly messed up. I havent gotten my period since that time. I have ovaries filled with cysts.
I am thinking its better to not live than to live in constant fear. I am scared of having sex, going out, i have all my friends and bf to come to my home because i have a toilet there. I cant take it anymore..

I know you were replying to Jen, but your story just pulled at my heart strings. I'm not sure what faith you are, but one thing that I had to do in my search for a cure and am still doing is pray. I stopped putting so much focus on other things and really began to have prayer time and read scriptures to look to God for an answer because as you can see we have all been back and forth to several doctors and they don't seem to be able to help. The antibiotics either don't work or work for a while and then you have the issue again. I would agree with another poster that fasting is very good, however mine was a spiritual fast as well. Giving up sex is a good thing because sex is going to make your situation worse. I've also learned that these bacteria love yeast, so watching your diet- I cut out all sugar. I will continue this for the rest of the month. Be careful about remedies and cures that you find on the net because you have to remember that everyone may not be dealing with the same bacteria, so their cure is not always yours. The lemon water suggestion was bad for me because the bacteria I had loved alkaline conditions(lemon is acidic but alkalizes the urine). Also you could have overactive bladder which causes the same symptoms, and I just learned that your urine samples should always be clean catch because you could contaminate the sample with vaginal skin or secretions that hasn't been cleaned. There are labs that do extensive testing to urine as well. Also I spoke with the Eliava Clinic in Georgia. They do Phagee treatments that apparently have been successful. Don't lose hope. I completely understand that you are overwhelmed and frustrated, but there is an answer.

It seems ilogical to me that a person could have blood cells and significant bacteria in the urine and a culture not be able to determine the bacteria type. Are you getting cultures done on your urine samples?
Have you had an renal ultrasound? A cystoscopy? A CT scan? I'd consider getting one or more of them.
Are you seeing a Urologist or an Infectious Disease Doctor? You need a specialist for this chronic condition.
For the time being, maybe go back on the Ninur prophylactically.

Culture was done both seperatley and on same samples that i gave for sediment.
Thats why im in Germany now trying to figure out. My bf is German and lives here so he is trying to find solution for this torture.
Next i will go To London. If i dont get anything here.

It is doubtful that Hiprex will help you. Hiprex is Methanamine. It's used as a preventative. It makes the urine acidic and is supposed to then turn to formaldahyde to keep bacteria in the bladder. There is evidence that it has worked on males that have a lot of retention. The urine needs to stay in the bladder for a while for it to work and you need to eat foods that keep the urine acidic. I tried it for a while and it didn't help me at all.
Please clarify....are you saying that when you do a culture they can't determine what bacteria is in it?
Did you get white cells in the urine will on the prophylactic? I thought you said you were symptom free during that time.
Have you tried abstaining from sex for a while?
There are many many women with recurring UTI's but this is the first time I've heard of getting symtoms while on an prophylactic antibiotic.

Yes i had white cells when i was on therapy. And i didnt have symptoms but they still decided to give me antibiotics. And after i had them, i got these feeling and pain.
In urine sediment they see “a mass of bacteria” but when they do a culture it always says “steril”.
I didnt have sex for 3 months. Due to the fact i havent seen my bf in 2 months and the one month i have i cant have sex/am afraid that it would make me feel worse.
Its never been connected to sex with me...

Do keep us updated about what you find out. It will help a lot of us. I lived in Ansbach Germany for quite some time and I know that there are some great physicians there. They have remedies that the states don't have for certain things. I became a member of a Bladder Health forum and learned about Hiprex. I was told that it could help manage the infection. I'm not sure why physicians don't offer it where I am. Please let us know if you decide to go to London. I would like to know the process and if you get any success there. I'd like to know what remedy you find and how it affects you.

Hey! Thank you for your reply!
I will do so. I know this is troubling, annoying, life destroying and really is lowering the quality of life.
I would really know.
But i am interested. Anyone know abt connection of uti’s and PCOS?
I have been finding a lot online abt it.
I have PCOS since i have these infections. And it just came to my mind after so many years 🤦🏼???
