UTI WON'T GO AWAY

So this is my first time writing on this forum...I never thought I'd be in this serious situation . I'm 20 years old and had a uti for about 1.5 months now....I've been on cipro (3 days), bactrim (7 days), nitrofurantoin (7 days), and nitrofurantoin again (10 days). It's been three days since I've finished my last batch of antibiotics and I STILL feel worst than ever. I even tried taking 100% pure D-MANNOSE which helped only a little. My gyn initially thought I had a yeast infection and put me on a one day pill...still nothing. Then on my second visit she was out of ideas referred me to a urologist. This is my second time visiting my urologist (today), and she was also out of ideas and referred me to a sonogram , because she suspects I have a kidney stone....I don't believe I have one since the urine cultures (al three of them showed no powder or crystals). I still feel the BURNIng in my urethra only ...which is weird . I talked to my doctor about IC but she says it's not possible because my urine culture always comes back with high levels of ecoli . I live in NYC and I feel hopeless!!!!!!! What do you guys think I should do?

What i have been subjected to was checking fresh urine sample under microscope immediately. This has shown strings of 2 different bacteria! (All my cultures in last 1 year was negative!!!). Next, it is a mistake that when you start feeling uti problems to drink abnormal amounts of liquid! Even if it does flush bacteria, its doesnt allow for your immune system to fight the bacteria off. (Dr told me this, i forgot what he said abt “why” reasons). But he said i need to drink “normal” amounts, some 10 glasses of water. Next, with complicated uti’s it is not enough to take antibiotic for 3-14 days (since reccurence in cases of 2+ utis per year is up to 70%), and this needs to be treated longer and with more than one antibiotic. First one needs to be the “main” one, not as strong, but that it gives time for your bladder to heal, and second one which will be switched from time to time to remove possibily of other bacteria to enter. Next, cystoscopy is NOT needed in cases of reccurent uti’s and can only make things worse. It is only needed in cases of cancer. Next, IC patients have mostly been misdiagnosed with it because of how testings are being made, and there is a big possibility it is not a IC-usually because drs give up faster and dont do needed tests.
Just wanted to point out what drs told me in Hamburg, Germany.

Thanks for the update! I'm glad you are feeling better. So have you decided to not pursue Dr. Lee?
Which bacteria did they find in your urine?
God has led me also to a good physician. She did a catheter in order to draw straight from my bladder (ouch). A clean catch had previously shown "normal" colonies of bacteria. That part I didn't like. What is a normal colony anyway?
But what she did find was that the bacteria that had actually caused the UTI that was difficult to treat was in my vagina.
Has anyone did a culture on your vaginal fluids? I am now being treated for that. I can tell that whatever is going on vaginally does affect the bladder. I'm wondering if your urgency would slow down if you found that you had bacteria vaginally and was treated?
Staying away from sugar was difficult at first, but it's becoming easier and I can tell a difference in the irritation of my bladder if I consume something with sugar.
Keep the updates coming!

And my urologist also agreed that Inshoukdnr try to drink excessive fluids to flush the bacteria because his reasoning was that your bladder has to not lose its a ability to function properly. If it's always releasing urine from the excessive drinking it starts to contract improperly. I have noticed that once I did decrease my liquids my bladder wasn't as irritated. The urgency slowed considerably. I drink about 40-64 oz a day.

And yes, i have this problem for days now. Because i am always drinking up to 3L of water and 2 cups of tea a day - my urethra is severly iritated, cause me symptoms of burning in it and feeling of some prolapse happening.
But, when i dont drink a lot, my urine smells bad.. dont know why..

Sounds like this advice is coming <indirectly> from Professor Malone-Lee in UK.

Hmm. Not sure why first response is still being moderated. There was nothing that couldn't be posted in it but please continue to keep us updated. So many times people have success and we never hear from them again. Just from my research, tea is sometimes an irritant because it can cause debris and stone formation. I drink distilled water now and find it helps with irritation. Hopefully they allow the other post as I asked about your bacteria strain.

And the smelly urine can come from dehydration or bacteria. I had smelly urine for over a year and all cultures were negative for bacteria and positive for blood. I couldn't be treated because of the negative cultures and once the bacteria evolved it was very resistant. But I suspect if you have bacteria that is what is causing the smell. Try what the doctor told you (reduce your intake) maybe try 1-2 liters without the tea and see if it still smells. Once the bacteria was dead in my case the smell went away, but still some irritation remains on some days.

And now i mostly wonder because every day my symptoms start almost at the exact time in a day. After 3pm.. in the morning i am fine and then it starts. To point out, i have generalized anxiety disorder, hypohondria and depression - dyagnozed. Not curing it, just managing.. its not that severe.. so i am thinking maybe this is happening (in the moment). Usually i have positive tests for bacteria presence (which is almost never isolated but sediment shows it) and blood..

If your recent doctor recommended taking the antibiotic long term, why did you stop at 14 days?
I'm no microbiologist, so I do not understand 'sediment' with respect to culture. My opinion is that if you have blood and/or bacteria that exceeds the normal range, then you have an infection. Blood especially unless somehow it is coming from the vagina.
I don't know what you mean when you say bacteria 'is never isolated'. Does that mean you can't distinguish which bacteria it is? That confuses me.
I will say this with respect to anxiety and hypochondria, it can cause all kinds of symptoms.

Anyway, yes i do the culture after first, regular (stripes=sediment=shows lots of bacteria), and in culture they cant isolate it.
I am drinking antibiotic every night 50mg and its just not doing the job..too low dose

Valentina how are you? It's been a while since I've been on this site I found a wonderful group that I think may be able to help you if you have social media.
Any progress so far?

Hi! I am okay, my bladder is good at the moment, i am taking 50mg nitrofurantoin before sleep and d mannose.
Currently i am battling some jaw problems, but its not for this site 😂
So, regarding the bladder, i have still some feeling in urethra, like its gonna collapse, and it appears for few days and then nothing for some weeks then again (i was told these are the cosequences of long period of infection and that it will take some time to heal)..
How are you?
Yes i am on social media, what is the group?😊

Well hopefully this won't get deleted if I give you the group name.
I am okay. I ended up getting a UTI which was a double infection and also something similar to BV but it is called AV. These things go hand in hand which I am just now learning. Many women are a symptomatic for it. I had a culture done and one of the bacteria they found also caused my recurrent UTI.
I've learned so much since we last spoke, like the differences between gram negative and gram positive bacteria and what causes and kills them. If D Mannose is working for you, you probably had a resistant strain of E. Coli and the resistant one likes to hide, which I remember you saying they couldn't isolate it.
The group focuses on natural remedies and God has blessed me to find these people and try to work through this. Antibiotics mess up my system so bad, but it appears you do well on them.
Yes, you can have residual discomfort after an infection which is what I learned as well. I think my discomfort was due to the bacteria still being there and the antibiotic not fully killing it. It was resistant.
If you have the most popular social media- the one everyone has- you can *Live Strong*
