vagifem vs yuvafem ? what is your experience???

Just wondering if anyone was on vagifem then switched to the generic yuvafem? And what were your results? Did you notice an increase in symptoms after switching? Did you have any problems with the applicators?

Several months ago I switched fro Estrace cream to yuvafem. I was doing oknay on the cream but it was messy and you had to wash and reuse the applicator. But I have had some problem with the yuvafem applicator. To begin with it does not have rounded corners on the end like the vagifem , it has sharp rectangular edges, Everytime I use it I am sore the next day and I am thinking those sharp edges are causing some damage,  I have gotten very small since using this yuvafem and it can be quite difficult to insert.

Also I have had an increase in yeast infections( which goes great with the burning I already have) And I read the ingredients and the first one is corn starch, which is why we shouldn't use powder because yeast feeds on corn starch. I'm starting to think I should switch to vagifem even if the co pay is more

anyway let me know if you have had any problems if you have switched to yuvafem

That sounds awful that corn starch is the first ingredient, I'm with you it sounds like the LAST thing we should be putting up there. No wonder!

I have been using Vagifem for years. Moved to new state same insurance. Noticed I received yuvafem instead and phoned my gynecologists office. Was told it was the Pharmacy that did that. Phoned the Pharmacy and said I want the Vagifem my doctor ordered not the other.  They have to do a “special order”. So beware. If your doctor orders Vagifem make sure you get it😡

I have VA and was prescribed Yuvafem because Vagifem was too expensive and Yuvafem was just $10 copay on my insurance.  My gynecologist gave me a sample of Estrace but if I wanted to continue using it, it would cost $50 a month.  I used Estrace for nearly three weeks but noticed into the third week that the calves in my legs started to twitch and hurt.  I stopped using it and the symptoms went away.  A few weeks later I decided to try Yuvafem and the same thing happened.   When I stopped using the Yuvafem the symptoms went away.  Unfortunately I don't think I can continue any estrogen therapy because I'm afraid of developing blood clots/deep vein thrombosis.  I called my GYN and was told by the nurse that the symptoms I had were unheard of and that I needed to see my primary care doctor.   BTW, I'm 63, had a partial hysterectomy 20 years ago and was told by my GYN that I was a perfect candidate for estrogen cream and that only a small trace of the estrogen cream would get into my blood stream and she didn't expect me to have any problems.   Boy, was she wrong!

I tried Replens but it caused irritation and itching.

Been on vagifem tablet insert which is so much better than creams2-3 yrs without incident

Recently my Dr switched me to generic -Juvafem  tablet insert and it NOT as effective at keeping me moist like the original. I’m going back to the brand I don’t care if it’s more $$ because it works! This insurance is really terrible we have to choose

I had been on vagifem for years and it worked wonders.  I no longer had dryness.  Cost of Vagifem increased and my insurance substituted Yuvafem which was totally useless.  Dryness increased to an uncomfortable level. Consequently, I stopped taking Yuvafem.  Not sure how to get Vagifem approved but may try an appeal. I am on Medicare and also have supplemental coverage.  Guess this is another example how the medical field and insurance companies put 'old folks' out to the fields.  sad

My doctor was able to get Vagifem approved.  Appeal!! Especially for you as Vagifem worked and you have experienced that Yuvafem does not work for you and you need quality of life.  Keep us posted.  You don't want to be off medication for long.  If your insurance won't approve then look into ordering through Canadian pharmacies they are much less, you will need your doctor to write out a prescription.  Google Canadian Pharmacies....you will find many.  Shipping takes awhile so you have to plan ahead.  Hopefully though your doctor will be able to get Vagifem approved for you.

      take care

Wendy!!  Thank you for motivating me  to do what is 'right' for me.  I really didn't think I had any options.  Hoping I did not wait too long.  We were in Canada a couple of months ago.  I wish I knew I could look for Vagifem there.  xo

Awesome Cynthia!!  Ask your doctor to deal with your insurance company that Yuvafem does not work for you and Vagifem is what gives you quality of life.....you need his/her help.  Are you in the US?

    Hi Donna.

I've been on a generic version of Vagifem for almost a year now.  I prefer the Yuvafem generic (pink applicator) over the one manufactured by Teva, which has a blue applicator.   The pill remained stuck in the blue applicator following insertion nine times out of ten, and had to be inserted by hand.  I never once encountered that problem with Yuvafem's pink applicator.

I had no issue with infections until January of this year, but I believe it was related to my use of coconut oil as a lubricant (suggested by my gynecologist) not the Yufavem.    I've since stopped using coconut oil due based on the following info I found on numerous sites, and have not had an infection since:

Coconut oil has been found to have both antiviral and antibacterial properties. These properties can disrupt the natural pH balance of your vagina. This upset can cause yeast infections or other vaginal infections. If you’re prone to yeast infections, you may want to stay away from using coconut oil as a lube until further research is conducted.
