Vestibular Neuritis for 3 months. Does anyone share these residual symptoms?

Posted , 18 users are following.

Diagnosed with VN (42% hypofunction in my right ear on the caloric exam). Three months into the arduous process, I've started VRT with some nice results.

Symtoms wax and wane and many come and go throughout the day. Brain fatigue is still very common and I realize it can take time to really improve and get better.

Some of the symptoms include:

1: Feeling funny when a car stops. This can happen even when continually stopping in traffic. This is a big one for me. So weird.

2. Unsteadiness on anything that is not a solid surface.

3. Brain fatigue after reading for too long, watching a film, or having a long conversation while tilting my head.

4. A little woozy after exercise.

5. Random dizziness / brain fatigue at moments throughout the day.

Do any of you share these symptoms?

Also, how has VRT gone for all of you?

Thanks in advance!

For those of you with Labs or VN, does it ever feel like you might get vertigo in those moments where you are suddenly very dizzy?

That said, we shouldn't be getting vertigo months after the acute phase, right?

I was ~really~ dizzy for an hour today and feared I might have a spell of vertigo.

Yes Iv had a few experiences of extreme dizziness and felt like I would spin out and get vertigo but never did. I believe the anxiety makes it worse too as ur almost expecting the vertigo. From my understanding u shouldn't get vertigo again after the initial episode. A friend of mine has had VN for 20 months and even tho she's had very dizzy days she's never had vertigo since that first attack.

I been getting spells of vertigo almost every day for 3 months. Docs have no idea why.

How long do your spells normally last? As Melody says, maybe there's a headache component.

That's a relief to hear. Just wanted to confirm with someone else who has it. Absolutely. Anxiety can wreck us.

I feel it helps to focus on the breath when you have a strong dizzy spell.

      Settles me down!

Yes! Her main issue now is her vision and she was getting headaches but I put her onto magnesium oil and she's been headache free for 5 weeks now

I had one about 3 weeks ago because I over did things. Super annoyed as I was feeling 99% for 3 weeks!

Nice! That's amazing. Never heard of magnesium. Might have to try it myself. Sounds dandy. 👌

Agh, that's a bummer. But think of it as a practice! Even just 3 months in, I find that if I test the waters for too long, I overdo it during a big day.

You still feel in the 90's though?

I will once I sort my eyes out. They are fatiguing because of the stress of the illness lol. I also have TMJ issues

Oh yeah, that's a biggie. Haha, just try to take it easy. TMJ sounds annoying.

      Hey Melody,

Do you ever have a faint pressure in different areas of your head? It's not exactly painful, but I've had some for a few days now. It goes for most of the day but, weirdly, doesn't stop me from everyday activity. It's just there reminding me that I'm imbalanced.

I'm trying to figure out whether the cause could be a sort of painless headache? Not sure.

Yes! And I still get it now but not as often as I used to. It's sort of like headache pressure but without the pain.

Okay! I suppose it's common. It seems to improve during exercise though. Is that strange?

Then it returns when I'm still.

I always felt better during the exercises too. Not sure why but my guess is that it's because ur using ur brain to focus and once u stop, it starts focusing on correcting the dizzies so u feel off more.

Hi I get the same too. Silent migraines I think that's what we have. No pain just that sense of a wave or tingling feeling in the head. Feels like blood trying to pump through. During exercise I don't get it only sitting down still. Other times when I get anxious or talking to people when I am sitting. Even laying in bed it goes on for a while.if it gets bad I take cinnazine to dampen my vestibular system and it works for me.

Yeah, I feel the same way. And if that's the case, it only stresses the importance of staying active. 🙃

Hi Liz, thanks for your reply. That's a definite possibility. For now, I assume the symptom is mostly due to the ear, but I'll keep that in mind, along with the cinnazine. 👍

I feel the same during conversation!

Not all the time but I know what you mean.

I thought I was going crazy having this feeling! Sometimes I feel like there is this pressure in my head or that there's something going on, but not always a headache. This is pretty common with VN? I'm so glad other people can relate to what I'm going through. My eyes get super strained too throughout the day.

No better. Had follow up with specialist up north 30 days ago. Called his office to tell him no change. Waiting for him to call me back to see what he's going to do now
