Viral Infection/Post Viral Fatigue - Not feeling great

Hello all,

Hope this is the right place posting...

About 10 weeks ago I started experiencing an increased need to clear my throat, essentially a post nasal drip creating the weirdest throat/chest sensations - Wasn't really bothersome tbh and would come and go.

However beginning of May this became more of a nuisance and now accompanied with new symptoms inc. fatigue, congested face/throat/chest, waves of feeling sick/nausea (like flu), on/off blocked nose and the odd bit of sneezing/coughing.

I felt pretty awful at times and i saw a doctor who did a general health check and found everything to be fine and reckoned I had a viral infection (possibily glandular fever). Since then, my symptoms have mainly been post nasal drip, fatigue, tiredness and occasional weariness/nausea (no actual vomiting). I definitely feel better compared to May, and usually i am relatively fine for a week, then it hits me like a wave and i feel rough for a day or 2. Seen the doctor twice more, had bloods done which revealed nothing of note apart from low potassium levels.

Doctor concluded post viral fatigue which i am guessing is doc speak for 'we don't specifically know whats wrong with you' - Has anyone had similar symptoms, particularly the throat mucus/post nasal drip, and whether a specific diagnosis was made? I would also welcome any general suggestions or insights from anyone else as I have never experienced anything like this before and is really starting to get me down.

I think my present situation can best be summed as malaise, lack of motivation and recently heart palpations. Hope someone can help smile

    Hey guys,

New to this site a discussion. I too have experienced a very similar story. I got married and went away on Honeymoon for four weeks and fell ill in Mexico, it had been an incredibly busy time leading up to th wedding with work and through in a couple of big nights (30th birthday and Stag/bucks do) it certainly could not have helped.

Dizziness, difficulty breathing and extreme fatigue were the symptoms of the initial virus. When I didn't come right after a few weeks I began to seek help, blood tests etc, all came back clean expect for slightly elevated CRP which they put down to post viral (it is now at safe level)

Ive always suffered from a bit of "Brain Fog" since I was about 23 (Now 30yo). After this illness I really struggled with any physical activity and my Brain Fog got really bad. Im off work at the moment just resting and re cooperating, but like you guys I did get quite down and depressed which I am now on top of. I have realized all I can do is eat clean, pace myself and rebuild. Its only been 6 weeks since illness but given my history with mild symptoms of fatigue and bran fog I now see the warning signs leading to this massive crash, and they think I may have had a mild form of Chronic Fatigue which I never knew about.

Just wondering how you guys are getting on now? Are you fully recovered? I am lucky enough to be able to stop work for a couple of months to rest and recover.

Would love to hear how you guys are getting on now and any advice you can offer would be a god sent.

    THanks guys

    Hi all,

I am wondering if anyone can help.

Back in December 2017 I developed a flu, which at the time I thought was a ‘regular’ influenza. However, since then I have been getting symptoms of post viral fatigue. Dizziness, headaches, severe nausea (but not vomiting), feverish feeling but no high temp, and shaking hands/legs.

The doctor believes it could be PVF. I am concerned that is has been a few months since getting the flu (potentially glandular fever) and I haven’t rested in this time.

Should I assume that this is now CFS or that I should just take a few months off work and rest, in turn giving me the chance to recover from this fatigue?

I have a couple of ‘hectic’ holidays planned this year (one in 5 weeks time), can this make things worse? Or will it be manageable through resting in between travel etc.

Any advise about Diet would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks for all your help. I am currently really stressed about this illness and I gather this will make things worse.

P.S I am a 22 male who was doing limited excercise previous to the flu. I am now not excercising/going to the gym.

I know this is an old post but I found it when searching for post viral  fatigue. Your symptoms of nasal drip and recurring bouts of colds etc are what I have experienced since last May. I thought they started when the pollen was bad. I have since seen an ENT specialist and been given a nasal rinse a steroid spray and a balloon for glue ear!! I have still had two bouts of the cold/flu. I feel well inbetween but after the last bout am totally lacking in energy. I am hoping it will eventually go and hope yours does too.
