Vitamin D deficiency success stories

Posted , 122 users are following.

I am in the midst of this deficiency trying to recover from the horrible symptoms that it can cause. I want to hear from people who have overcome this deficiency and how they did it. If there was adverse affects of long term use of vitamin d supplements.

How long did it take to make a full recovery and any hurdles you ran into along the way.

I am just in need of encouragement right now from this deficiency. It has stopped me in my tracks and life just stopped for me. Being frozen in time while everyone continues on with their life while I suffer and wrestle with the symptoms.

Dealing with doctors who are not knowledgeable with this deficiency can be very frustrating.

Please share your story so I know after the storm comes a rainbow. Your stories will bring encouragement and hope not only to me but for everyone out there searching for answers on vitamin d deficiency.

Thank you and God bless!

I just want to share some hope with everyone on this board. I'm at day 60, so approximately 2 months on the protocol, and I'm noticing improvements in several areas: 1) I fall asleep faster, 2) I sleep longer without waking up, and 3) I'm less anxious/depressed. I still have a bit of anxiety and depression, but things are much better. I also have way less fatigue. Not sure if because of sleeping better, but I think it goes beyond that. I do think the D3, K, and magnesium glycinate protocol is causing my energy to improve. Still keeping waking up with the severe bone and muscle pain, but I think that's just going to be a journey. My muscles and bones got weak from not knowing I had a D deficiency, that likely went on for a long, long time, so I feel it's normal to expect the bones and muscle to take a while to heal. I hope this gives someone hope. Have good weekends, Gail

      Gail,

Thank you so much for sharing your story. I hope you will keep us updated along the way. I too can not wait to start feeling better.  My symptoms have been severe. And I look forward to the day I can say I’m better.

      Gail,

I forgot to ask how much vitamin d your were taking. Also did you take magnesium in evening? And did you take k2 with the d3 ? I ordered mine and they arrived today. Also how much of k2 and magnesium did you take?  Thank you!

I hope you start feeling much better soon. I know I still have quite a ways to go before I feel the way I did before this deficiency started, but at least I feel somewhat better and this gives me hope.

    Hello I'm new here,

Today I have been diagnosed with vdd, of 35.

I'm not sure how this has happened, but I've been back and forth to the drs for about 7 weeks. Long story short and it might sound stupid, but all my symptoms started the day after I was dumped.

I have poor sleep, night sweats, anxiety, very nervous, strange sensations over my stomach and my legs, tight calf muscles, but not all the time, feeling low, heavy knees, hot feet sometimes, poor concentration. All my Dr kept saying wasits anxiety/stress. I'm on 20000ui tablets, taken first one tonight.

Am I being a bit silly linking the 2 things together,or could ashock do this or........

    I'm very confused

Hi Patrick, so sorry you are having a bad time of it. I do not think that one can cause the other, lack of vitamin D is lack of vitamin D. Maybe because you are obviously upset etc you have started to perceive discomfort that didnt bother you before perhaps? Vitamin D loss is a gradual thing. You need to take the proper supplements (the ones from the GP are not the best) and some people say that co-factors help too. Have a look on FB for a group called vitamin D deficiency, its profile picture is a blue sky with a bright sun smile  it is really helpful and explains what you need to take, its a very good support group with lots of useful info.

Thank you for your reply. I have read that stress cortisol can deplete vitamin d.

To be honest, I have never heard of that. But whatever has contributed, you need to start to supplement yourself well again and reduce your deficiency, with the right things at the right dose. (which could probably more than the GP has advised, but will be more effective)

    Hello,

I am new to this forum.....but have found reading all your posts a real comfort as I am finding that there is not much support for a vitamin d deficiency and your stories help me realise that I am not going mad!

My symptoms started at the end of last October, I went back and forward to the doctors and A & E numerous times.....heart palpitations, sudden loss of weight, loss of appetite, insomnia, fatigue, muscle and bone weakness, anxiety and depression.  Had quite a few tests for thyroid problems but came back ok after a scan and only after 3 months did a friend suggest to me to have my vitamin d tested...the doctors I saw never mentioned it and to be honest kept trying to refer me to a mental health service, as soon I as I mentioned the word anxiety that was all they would focus on.  Anyway the Vitamin D blood test came back as low and was just told by the GP to take a supplement from the chemist.  So since January I have only been taking a very low level of 1000iu....but after reading all your posts I am inclined to believe that this is not enough!  I have a few good days but mainly am not really feeling any better so decided to revisit the GP last week....to be told my symptoms do not really reflect the Vit D Deficiency.  But after reading all your posts, you describe exactly how I feel !  So I know I am not imagining it but do not feel like I am getting any support from a health care professional sad Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated as I feel like there is no end to feeling this way and am desperate to be back to the person that I was.

    Thank you smile

Hi vikki, I am fairly new to this, only having found I have the deficiency 5 weeks ago. I joined a FB group called vitamin D deficiency uk which is very supportive and has lots of very good information about how to improve your vit D levels. GPs know a little bit about a lot of things, and maybe don't get so much training on  the importance of nutrition and supplements. After I told my GP about my symptoms, she thought they could be menopause related and just offer prozac. Thank goodness she also did some routine blood tests which highlighted my vit D was very low.

My doc new vit d would be low before even testing. I'd been off balance (vertigo type symptons) anxious depressed heart palpitations for about 3 months. 2nd doc to send me for blood tests and test for as much stuff as possible.

I've currently been taking 2 x 20 000 units of vit d for 7 weeks then will need retesting.still have good and bad days but am on week 5

I've been following the protocol recommended on FB Group for vitamin D deficiency UK - combination of K, D3, and magnesium. I still have symptoms, and some days are better than others, but I have seen improvement -- particularly in my energy level, and I have less anxiety and depression and with the insomnia stuff. The symptom that seems to be lingering seems to be the bone and muscle pain, but that makes sense to me. Those problems weren't created over night, so it's going to take a while for the bones and muscles to get back to where they need to be. Been on protocol for over 8 weeks now. Good luck. You will get to where you need to be if you follow the right protocol.

      Hi Sally,

Thank you for replying to me.  Thank you, I will try that FB Group.  Its just good to get other peoples experiences as sometimes I can really feel like I am crazy!  Sounds a bit like you had a similar experience to me with regards to the GP.  I have requested a repeat blood test tomorrow to see if my levels have increased at all and then with probably try a higher dose.  Which supplements do you take?  Thank you smile

Hi Susan,  Thank you for replying to me.  Did the doctor prescribe you that dose or did you get that yourself?  Have your symptoms started to fade? Thank you smile

The doctor prescribed it it's a build up dose then I will have to take a daily dose they have started to fade especially the depression side of it. My balance issues depend on what I'm doing and if I've over worked myself. My level was half of what it should be by the way

Thank you Gail!  It is comforting to know other people experience the same, as I just seem to get dismissed by the doctors with these symptoms, yet you sound exactly the same as I feel.  I will get on to the fb group and see their advice, thank you so much smile I wish you luck too.
