Vitamin D deficiency success stories

Posted , 122 users are following.

I am in the midst of this deficiency trying to recover from the horrible symptoms that it can cause. I want to hear from people who have overcome this deficiency and how they did it. If there was adverse affects of long term use of vitamin d supplements.

How long did it take to make a full recovery and any hurdles you ran into along the way.

I am just in need of encouragement right now from this deficiency. It has stopped me in my tracks and life just stopped for me. Being frozen in time while everyone continues on with their life while I suffer and wrestle with the symptoms.

Dealing with doctors who are not knowledgeable with this deficiency can be very frustrating.

Please share your story so I know after the storm comes a rainbow. Your stories will bring encouragement and hope not only to me but for everyone out there searching for answers on vitamin d deficiency.

Thank you and God bless!

Any updates? 5 weeks ago I was diagnosed with low vitamin D. I have head pressure and headaches dizziness thinning hair heart palpitations high bp sometimes and neck pain. I’ve had bloodwork mri ctscan seen specialist. Nothing wrong but a vitamin d level of 18.1. I’ve been given a rx of vitamin d2 50,000 iu I take weekly and so far I have take 5 weeks worth and a week or 2 agoni started a multivitamin that has 3,000iu of vitamin d3 in it I take that daily. So far I haven’t got any better. Some days I think I am and it o my last a few days and I’m right back where I was. My dr won’t recheck my levels until it’s been 3 months. Does anyone else have any advice? Or success stories on how long it took them to feel better??

Vitamin d3 is better absorbed by your body so i would suggest you to take 50'000iu of vit d3. Actually, it is better if you take 10'000iu d3 daily. Also, add 400mg of magnesium glycinate and 100mcg of vitamin k2 mk7 to increase your d3 absorption and help your body heal faster.

Anyway, i had pretty much your same symptoms and I started to feel really better only now, after 8 weeks from the start of the therapy. 5 weeks is definitely not enough for a deficiency so severe. Mine was 23 nmol/l.

And join the Facebook group Vitamin D deficiency UK. You will find a lot of useful information and support from others that experienced or are experiencing the same problems. Hope this information will help you and that you will feel better asap!

Fillippo and terr are right, you need to switch to D3 (cholecalciferol) instead of D2 (ergocalciferol) since D3 is better absorbed, has a much longer half life than D2 and you could potentially cut the time of correcting your deficiency into half.  Vitamin D3 is the same form our bodies synthesize when exposed to sunlight. Some studies even showed that D3 has a profound effect on gene expresssion than D2. So definitely take D3 instead.

Also, since vitamin D is blood soluble, and depending on how deficient you are, it may take anywhere from 4-5 months to correct your levels. So stick with it and remember to take the co-factors needed for vitamin D metabolism.

Have some patience and I assure you things will get better with time just stick with it, as if left untreated? Vitamin D deficiency causes a host of horrible symptoms.

Thank you so much! It gives me hope. I am switching today to a fail dose of 10,000iu if D3. I am taking a multivitamin that does have magnesium and vitamins A and K in it as well as other stuff. Do you guys think that will be sufficient? I know 5 weeks of being in the d2 I’m not better. I have a good day here n there but even on those days I don’t feel well. Nausea has started as well. I hope this nightmare is over soon and I can get my life back. I’ll never take for granted feeling good again! I’ll never complain about workin cleaning or taking my kids someplace cause I’m too tired. I just want my life back! Than you everyone. And please feel free to reach out to me anytime with your advice or stories. It’s  ice to know I’m not alone and I’m not crazy!

I think it would be better to take specifically magnesium glycinate and k2 than a generic multivitamin. So that you can take the reccomended dose (400 magnesium, 90/100 k2). You can still take the multivitamin though, i don't think there are any problem with that smile i hope you will feel better soon.

Thank you I will. I am having trouble finding them. But I will look online. I’ll keep you all updated!

Hi. We had trouble finding it too. The only place near me in Boston, MA that I could find it was Whole Foods, but I do believe that is the form of magnesium you should be taking. It's helped to move my D level significantly. I take that with K too.

Is it normal for my symptoms to get worse before they get better? I read the protocol that says pain can get worse before it gets better, but my dizziness and head pressure have been getting worse I’m day 5 on vitamin d3 10,000 iu daily. My dr says that she believes my dizziness and pressure is due to my sinuses. I’ve seen a good many ppl that have had the same symptoms so I think it’s the vitamin D.

I agree with filippo54861. The 50,000 units do not do much, only give you quick bursts of Vitamin D. A high quality Vitamin D3 is much better to take regularly at a higher dosage. The 50,000 of D2 made me really ill. I have also started the protocol at the Vitamin D deficiency UK. Though I'm only starting week 4, I'm seeing tiny improvements. It's giving me hope that a few months down the road I will feel a lot better. I've had to experiment with how much of the vitamins I take because of my sensitive stomach and plan on gradually building things up. I hope you feel better!

Thank you. I am starting the D3 today. 10,000 iu and throwing away the D2. I have a multivitamin that has magnesium and vitamin A and K so I’m not sure if I should get more to take or not. I requested to join the Facebook group and joined some others in there I found. It gives me hope. I hate to see that so many ppl suffer from this. I became so depressed I figured this is how I will feel forever! Drs need to do something about this. I have so many medical bills. I have a surgery that I obviously didn’t need all that and a simple blood test would’ve solved it. Yes it’s better to be safe than sorry, but man why don’t they check this regularly and why don’t they know how it affects your body? My dr said my symptoms weren’t from vitamin d deficiency and it was! They need more education about it for sure.

I had terrible symptoms. Bloating, gas, fatigue, eye problems my skin was pale. I thought it was sibo, ibs, crohn, low b12.  I did colonoscopy and blood tests. My vitamin d level was low (25ng/ml) but at that level doctors told me that i should not experience all these symptoms.

Anyway i didn't listen them and i followed what i've read. Every day i took 25.000iu d3 for 8 days. That's 200.000 iu. All my problems are gone. I lost many years suffering and the solution was just that simple. Offcource i will never stop taking vitamin d3. Right now i take 25.000 iu per week.

That's amazing that you got your level up and feel so much better. I've dealt with IBS for about 5 years now. I will be interesting to see if when I get my levels up things will improve.  Frustrating that your docs didn't believe or understand that your low levels were causing problems.

I am not 100% and that's because for many years i didn't digest the food properly but my blurry vision, my pale skin, the extreme fatigue have gone. I will need time to be at 100%. Maybe a few weeks

It's just awesome that you are doing as well as you are. You will get to where you want to be. Go you!

    Hi taro and guys

I hope things are going better for you

I know all too well about the battle with vitamin d deficiency I have previously had 2 awful experiences. The most recent was the worst, symptoms were multiple and included fatigue, heavy limbs, bone and muscle pain, extreme and constant dizziness, rapid heartbeat, headaches, Ibs, deep depression, high anxiety, what felt like constant back to back anxiety attacks, disinterest in food, head fog, i felt in a dissociative state, night sweats and rumination of obssesive thoughts.

All of these symptoms hit me one day like a tone of bricks, id been tired and slept alot over a week and one day I woke up with these symptoms which progressively got worse. I visited the doctors and a&e numerous times and felt that nobody was taking me seiously which may have been due to the numerous symptoms. After a couple of weeks i was put on tablets for vertigo, i was not happy with the diagnosis so stopped treatment after a week. Whilst i waited for blood test results to return i was diagnosed with anxiety and prescribed beta blockers which i took for all of 2 weeks. Eventually blood test results returned my levels of vitamin d were at 14. I was so relieved to finally know what was wrong. I cant remember the unit of supplement they gave me but i was to take 2 a week for 12 weeks.

All i can say is i remember how awful id felt for a good few months, all hope had gone to the point where i felt suicidal and would constantly be crying and couldnt leave my house, 5 weeks into treatment and i started to really feel a difference especially in my physical state, it took longer for my mental health to return to its normal state but i got there in the end. Stick to the supplements guys, they take some time and you may feel a little worse before it gets better, but it really does get better.

I can’t thank you enough enough sharing this. I have had this pressure and dizziness neck pain so tired and hurt all over. Anxiety which I’ve never had in my life and then heart palpitations. I feel like I’m never going to get better and I’ll have a good day then back to feeling awful again. This does give me hope!

Thank you for sharing this pretty much same symptoms as myself I to have been put on medication for vertigo seemed to get a little better then it hit me again 2 months after the 1st episode I went to different doc that tested my bloods for more stuff came back low vit d not sure how low but I'm on 4th week of 40 000 units which I'm taking once a week for 7 weeks. Slowly starting to get better. I to also got prescribed beta blockers for heart palpitations

Do you know if they gave you vitamin D2 or D3? I wish you the best of luck! I was on a weeekly dose of 50,000 iu if d2 and switched to a daily dose of d3 and I’m hoping that helps a lot better.

I have another question. What supplements did you take? I’m on 10,000 iu of vitamin d3 now and was told to take magnesium and vitamin k with it. The dr gave me 50,000 iu of d2 weekly but after 5 weeks of no improvement I switched to a daily dose of 10,00 iu of d3 and she said to take that for 3 weeks then lower to 5,000 iu daily. Just was curious as to what you were taking to get better. I know everyone is different. But there is a group online that says the magnesium and vitamin k are cofactors and help metabolize the d3.

I'm following the identical protocol to you, Ashley.  57 days out. Have some better days as well as some bad days, particularly with the pain at night and trouble falling or staying asleep, but I do feel like I have more energy and plan to continue with the protocol. I hear it can take anywhere from 3 months to a year to get close to being symptom-free.

Do you take the vitamin k or magnesium, Gail? I ordered the magnesium and I was told mine was normal but I read where others that had normal magnesium actually felt even better after taking it.

Hi. I heard that magnesium tests often aren't accurate, so even if your results come back as showing adequate levels, you may still have a magnesium issue. I take MK-7 (Jarrows forumla, which we order online) to get my K, and magnesium glycinate (that I buy at Whole Foods in U.S.), plus daily D3 right now.  Recent tests showed my D levels had really climbed. I think the reason one has the symptoms so long post levels climbing is because it takes your body time to assimilate all the new vitamins and minerals and build back up muscles/bone/tissue, etc.

D3 also taking magnesium and multi vits which I chose to after reading some of the comments on here. Still have some bad days but I managed start working again

How long were you off work. I’ve been inking about taking time off to get better. This is hard.

      Hi everyone,

I am sorry I missed some of your comments I am currently on vacation in Indonesia and sometimes I don’t have access to internet connection since I’m near the forests.

Personally, I battled horrible symptoms as a result of vitamin d deficiency from anxiety, depression, vertigo, abnormal heart rhythms, anhedonia and hair loss, and I’m happy to report that most of them are gone now! If anyone is interested, I received my vitamin d blood tests a couple of days ago and my levels are at 74 ng/mL which is great.

I am sure that as you raise your blood levels, you’ll start to notice the resolution of these symptoms, just keep going and don’t give up just yet.

I’ve sent you a PM, ashley. Check it out you might find it helpful.

Did you mind me asking what you took? And how long it took to feel better.

      Hi,

I actually started with high daily doses of 50000 IUs of D3 for a week with Vitamin K2 MK7, magnesium citrate and a multi  then reduced it to 15000 IUs per day till I got retested again. Now I take 10000 a day with the same supplements to keep my levels to where they should be as I don’t get much sunlight.

I was in 50,000 iu of d2 for 5 weeks and when I found this group and did research I switched to d3 10,000 iu daily and I ordered magnesium glycinate to take. My dr said not to take magnesium my levels were fine but I think I’m gonna try it as soon as it gets here. She said to take 10,000 iu for 3 weeks then reduce to 5,000 iu daily.

As long as you’re supplementing with vitamin D, magnesium deficiency is inevitable since vitamin d uses up magnesium stores in the body for its activation and that’s why most health experts recommend supplementing with magnesium with it.

Magnesium deficiency is actually pretty common and leg cramps are classic symptoms of magnesium deficiency. Magnesium deficiency could also be responsible for your depression according to George Eby (a scientist who spent the last 30 years researching magnesium).

“One of the most carefully guarded secrets of psychiatry is that the main cause of clinical depression, also called affective disorder or major depressive disorder, and other neuroses is magnesium deficiency.  Nearly all modern countries are now seeing depression as a serious disorder that is increasingly affecting more people each year”

Oh wow, I didn’t know that. I will most definitely be taking the magnesium glycinate as soon as it is delivered. I do have leg cramping and tingling. The anxiety and head pressure/dizziness in head  is what scares me the most and in return gets my anxiety going and then heart palpitations so it’s a vicious cycle. I pray everyday that I can feel a little bit better than day before but idk I guess I have to wait to be retested and see what happens. I hope and pray that it doesn’t take too long for the worst symptoms to go away. Thank you so much for your time.
