Vitamin D deficiency success stories

Posted , 122 users are following.

I am in the midst of this deficiency trying to recover from the horrible symptoms that it can cause. I want to hear from people who have overcome this deficiency and how they did it. If there was adverse affects of long term use of vitamin d supplements.

How long did it take to make a full recovery and any hurdles you ran into along the way.

I am just in need of encouragement right now from this deficiency. It has stopped me in my tracks and life just stopped for me. Being frozen in time while everyone continues on with their life while I suffer and wrestle with the symptoms.

Dealing with doctors who are not knowledgeable with this deficiency can be very frustrating.

Please share your story so I know after the storm comes a rainbow. Your stories will bring encouragement and hope not only to me but for everyone out there searching for answers on vitamin d deficiency.

Thank you and God bless!

    Hi all

So today I went back to work for the first time in ages, I'm a professional photographer... Had 6 hours worth of shoots today... Now as I sit here my fingers hurt, the tips are burning, and my arms have this odd tingly, weak kind of muscle burning sensation... It's awful, is this normal for vitamin D deficiency?.... Spent all day sitting on my knees and when I stood up my legs felt like jelly... Now they are burning its awful 😑 have a day of shoots again tomorrow and can barely lift my camera.

Aw Lottie, sounds like you have had such a busy day, hope you rest well tonight. I don't know what is 'normal' for vit d, I can only say that I recognise the feelings you describe too. How many days have you been taking supplements for now? I am on day 10 of taking 20,000ui, and for the first few days I seemed to feel worse, and wondered if the supplements were to blame. Yesterday I started taking magnesium too, and actually started feeling a little better (Maybe the vit b levels rising, or the addition of the magnesium I have no idea) All I know is that its going to be a long journey, and I feel my body is saying 'rest and try to heal'. Not easy with a family and a job though is it. I'm sure others with more experience of the condition will be better to advise you then I though.

Make sure you carry on with the supplements though, and return to your GP for a followup blood test to see if your levels have improved. Also tell your GP about any symptoms you might still be having, incase they want to do other tests,

Your vitamin D deficiency is in fact a chronic state of fear.

There are 100 times as many people with low vitamin D who have absolutely none of the symptoms of anxiety and depression

I too am struggling with the same symptoms as most of you and I've come to the conclusion that vitamin D deficiency is not causing these symptoms, at least not the worst of them. If your only fear is the fear of being tired then by all means vitamin D will cure you, otherwise we need to work on fear in our lives. In fact, if you look up the physical manifestations of fear in your body and especially irrational fear you will find that they overlap with vitamin D deficiency.

The acute phase of my fear toxicity a.k.a vitamin D deficiency began in October 2017. It started with a sports injury that prevented me from playing sports and I was super anxious about my body and its healing ability. Playing sports and my physical body and athleticism has always meant everything to me. So I stopped all activities but my state had not improved and gradually I started manifesting all of the symptoms well known to all of you. Tension in muscles, heavy thighs, mobility issues, pain in neck, shoulders, upper back, posterior head, loss of appetite, stomach anxiety, twitching muscles, night sweats, toes and fingers moving on their own, agitation and above all inability to stay in the moment and stay concentrated. I even developed some of these AFTER starting taking the supplement.

So I went to see my doctor and after all kinds of blood tests it was determined that the only thing wrong with me was low vitamin D. Of course, when I heard the news that I'm vitamin D deficient I was so relieved that all my pains instantly dissipated and it lasted for a few hours.

However, after a month on an elephant dose of vitamin D and all kinds of supplements I was feeling even worse. Then I woke up one morning feeling the absolute dread. I thought that dying would be a piece of cake compared to the state I was in. I could not stay in the bed, but i could not move either. I just could not do anything and I didn't even want to exist there at that moment. I would have traded any known disease for whatever it was that I had. Then I thought "well, this is it...I can't move and I can't be...guess I'll just die now,...I had totally surrendered to my state at that moment. Then I felt that my fear was leaving me and within a couple minutes I felt fine. My appetite came back and everything was suddenly all right. "

All this to say, take a long hard look at yourself, meditate on your fear, face it, do something about it or surrender to it. Let it overcome you, let it paralyze you and do not resist it. In fact, induce it on purpose. Make it your practice to face it at any occasion where you would shy away from it. Try to stay calm when it comes, there's nowhere to go anyways. It's just you there, at that moment. Concentrate on the feeling. Don't judge it, don't attach emotional labels to it. I know it's not easy but it takes practice. We need to transform ourselves, our bodies are fine, we're just afraid.

Hello, I'd really like some advice and hopefully some hope. I'm 39 yrs old I was diagnosed with a low d3 of 6 in January 2018. My symptoms were fatigue, tingling/burning in hands and feet, headaches, head pressure, blurry vision, difficulty concentrating, forgetfulness, and depression/anxiety. I was put on 5,000 ius of d3/day. After about a couple of weeks, I felt really good. All of my symptoms went away. Then, I started feeling fatigued again. I just went in and had labs done again and everything looks 'normal'. My d3 is up to 44.

But I know something's wrong. I don't feel right. New symptoms have emerged in the last 3 weeks---muscle/joint soreness/pain in back, hips and thighs, fatigue, and slight tingling in my feet at night. The muscle/joint pain is new---I didn't have it previously and I am very sore. Getting up and down out of chairs is difficult, and i feel weakness when i do so. I work on a computer all day so sitting down is becoming painful, especially at the end of the day. By then end of the day, I'm dropping into bed around 7 pm due to the soreness, stiffness, and fatigue. I'm basically living for work and bed time.

Please tell me this will improve, that I'll get better. I'm starting to get very down about. I'm still taking 5,000 ius of d3/day. What else should I do, or can I do? Any hope or advice to help me would be really appreciated. I don't want it to get worse---I've read horror stories about d3 deficiency and how it can lead to things like MS or other serious problems/diseases, and it worries me greatly. I just want to do whatever I have to do to get better. Honestly, I'm scared. Thanks.

Your vitamin d level is pretty good. Vitamin D does increase calcium which slows the body, depletes magnesium which could contribute to your symptoms, crashes potassium which will affect your thyroid, increases H202 (oxidative stress), lowers ATP energy in the cell, depletes rentinal vitamin A in the liver, and lowers ceruloplasm.

I bet your doctor never told you any of this before supplementing with vitamin D. You probably need to get a red blood cell magnesium test so you can see how low you are. Than work on increasing your magnesium. It's going to take a while. I am on the same boat as you. Wished I raised my magnesium first before taking vitamin D. Depending on how low you are, it could take years.

In the mean time check out magnesium advocacy group just to be well informed.

My life right now is very similar to yours. I welcome hearing success stories from others too because I keep fearing something else really bad is going on -- beyond just low D -- and that is making me more anxious and depressed, which is not good, since low D is known to already cause anxiety and depression.

Thank you for the quick response. It’s appreciated. In addition to checking on the magnesium, should I be taking the vitamin k2 as well? Should I lower the dosage of d3 I’m taking? Thanks for the advice.

Yes take k2, with magnesium, boron 1-2mg it helps stabilize vitamin d levels, I think 2,000iu of vitamin d is good enough. Make sure you eat enough retinol vitamin A ie. Liver, cod liver oil, eggs, butter ect. as vitamin d depletes vitamin A. Beta carotene is not going to cut it.

      I wish you well

Hi Chris, I'm not a medical professional, so you have to take anything I say with a grain of salt, but for about 6 weeks now I've been taking 5000 IU daily of D3, 90mg Vitamin K2 as M-7 (Jarrow formulas brand soft gel) along with 800mg daily of magnesium glycinate. I learned about the protocol via this Facebook UK D Deficiency group and it seems to work because in five weeks, based on lab results, it moved my D level from 16 to 42; however, still having lots of symptoms, so working to get my level higher. Here is link to FB page where I got protocol. My doctor put me on high-dose D2 (or wrote a prescription I should say) after learning of my low D from labs. But, I never took it. It said as one of the warnings that people with malabsorption issues shouldn't take it because of risks of calcifications in the heart and other parts of the body and I have tons of digestive and malabsorption issues due to past cancer and cancer treatments in the abdominal/intestinal area. So, I was glad to find this protocol. https://www.facebook.com/groups/458769434286147/

    Hi all

I'm 27 and 7 weeks ago I started to take D3 supplements, 50'000iu per week. At the start of the therapy, I had a series of symptoms like weakness, tiredness, depression, anxiety, heart palpitations, hyper salivation, slight nausea, and brain fog. Even though I feel slightly better that when I started, I am still feeling pretty bad. Also, I have much more nausea and anxiety. I have dizziness, various fasciculations, a feel of heavyness on my chest, numbness and sweat from my hands, a feel like my stomach is contorting, like a general malaise, and, sometimes, I feel feverish. I am really scared that these symptoms are just not a deficiency of Vitamin D, but my dr is not helping me a lot... Do you guys have similar symptoms? I also did not know that it was better to take magnesium and vitamin k2 together with the vitamin D to have a faster and better recovery.. I will start taking those two supplements asap..

Hi. I had many of those symptoms before I started the K, magnesium, and D3 combo and I still have many of them, but I've only been on the protocol six weeks now, and it's my understanding, based on what others have shared, that it's likely going to take a minimum of 3-4 months before I feel better. I had/have that hyper saliva, the anxiety, the depression, insomnia (trouble falling or staying asleep), dizziness, bone and muscle pain, foggy brain, extreme fatigue. Maybe it helps to know you are not alone and not imagining all of this. I hope so. Wish you weren't dealing with this, though. We all need to recognize that D deficiency may go hand in hand with other medical problems we aren't aware of. There may be other medical problems going on, there may not. I'm not a doctor, but my thinking is that if you don't feel better within a few months of taking the triple protocol that you should push your doctor to see what else might be going on.

When I went to the doctor, 7 weeks ago, he told me that, in his opinion, my symptoms were due to anaemia, hyperthyroidism, some kind of deficiency, or an infection, and I did the blood exams to see what was the problem, and the result was a severe deficiency of vitamin D. At the start I was happy to know that it was nothing too serious, but  I started to feel a bit worried about it over time since I don't see any progress (just slightly, maybe). But sometimes I actually feel really bad. Anyway, I started with the magnesium today and I ordered online the vitamin k2, which will arrive at the end of the week. I was also thinking to halve the intake of D3 for the next few weeks (from 50'000 to 25'000), because they make me feel uneasy, more nauseated, and agitated. While tomorrow I'll go to see my doctor and see what he says. You're right anyway, it takes time and so 7 weeks is not probably enough, especially without magnesium and k2. So I'll see what happens in the next weeks, and, in case, I will push my doctor.

I hope we'll get better as soon as possible and thanks for the reply!

A very kind member of this board just shared with me information that says that sometimes folks don't feel better until their D level is 50+ and that low D levels can definitely cause anxiety and depression. I like your idea of backing off the amount of D you are taking, perhaps, it is too high for you. I take 5000 iu a day of D3. My doctor had originally prescribed a very high dose D2, but I never took it. It said as a warning you should not take if you have malabsorption issues and I do from digestive issues stemming from past cancer treatment, so there was no way I was going to mess with that. I think you will feel better when you combine the K, magnesium, and D. Most people on various discussion boards I've seen say they feel better when they are taking the 3 combined vs. the D in isolation. Really hoping you'll start feeling better soon. It's a journey, I guess. It's not easy to be patient about this stuff -- I speak from experience -- we all want to feel better sooner rather than later, but I believe wellness will come if we stick to the protocol.

Hi Gail, i wanted to know if even you have experienced retching/dry heaving from when you started the protocol. Yesterday i had the third episode and it's making me very anxious...

    • Posted

Hi. No I did not have any dry heaving/retching. I'm sorry you are having those issues. Sounds like you need to talk to your doctor. I'm wondering if other things are going on, besides the D deficiency. i wish you the best of luck in getting to the bottom of this.

I went to the doctor and, after a quick check, he told me I have a stomach inflammation (I hope It's just that) and so he prescribed something for it... I am probably too stressed.. Hope it will get better soon. I'll see him again in 2 weeks

Now that I take the medicine for the inflammation, I'm feeling better than how I was just a few days ago. I have less nausea, heart palpitations and in general i feel more relieved. I still have dizziness, fatigue, and anxiety but I can see the light at the end of the tunnel now. I also started to take the vit. k2 yesterday
