Vitamin D deficiency success stories

Posted , 122 users are following.

I am in the midst of this deficiency trying to recover from the horrible symptoms that it can cause. I want to hear from people who have overcome this deficiency and how they did it. If there was adverse affects of long term use of vitamin d supplements.

How long did it take to make a full recovery and any hurdles you ran into along the way.

I am just in need of encouragement right now from this deficiency. It has stopped me in my tracks and life just stopped for me. Being frozen in time while everyone continues on with their life while I suffer and wrestle with the symptoms.

Dealing with doctors who are not knowledgeable with this deficiency can be very frustrating.

Please share your story so I know after the storm comes a rainbow. Your stories will bring encouragement and hope not only to me but for everyone out there searching for answers on vitamin d deficiency.

Thank you and God bless!

Hi everyone! Just found out I'm VDD yesterday.

  • Edited

Hello everyone! I just found out I was VDD yesterday. After 2 months of pure hell. I'm glad to have found this discussion. I now know I'm not crazy!! It seems no one, not even my doctor's truly know how bad it really is. And people think you are exaggerating or being a wuss. Anyway, so I started 10,000UI per doctor. Took 2, 5,000UI fast dissolve pills yesterday. Today I woke up more dizzy than ever. And I've been dizzy for 2 months & today was worse??! It brought on my anxiety in full effect. Not that I was expecting to be better by today but didn't expect to be worse! So from reading all the advice, I'm guessing I should add the other vitamins in. The vitamin K2 MK7 & magnesium? I've never heard of K2 MK7. Will it say just that on the bottle? And what exactly will the magnesium say? Is it just plain magnesium? Nothing else along with it? Can we send pictures here?? Can you show me a picture?? I know I won't have enough strength to be standing at the vitamin isle for too long. It's hard to stand & I'm weak & dizzy. A picture will help a ton! Please & thank you sooooo much!?

Yes, the bottle should say k2, mk7 usually from natto or you can just eat natto. You should get magnesium slow release form for better absorption and less gut discomfort.

      Hey Elisa,

Welcome aboard and I hope you feel well very soon.

Believe me I know, it's frustrating when you explain your symptoms to your doctor for half an hour only to get the cold nod with a ''it's all in your head'', and to be honest for a while there, I thought I was going crazy, I too thought it's all in my head, but then I started my own research, reading hundreds of research papers, watching lectures by health experts and reading books, and this is how I figured it out. Turns out that in medical college, they only teach them how to diagnose and treat every symptom separately with medications. There are plenty of reasons why physicians don't know a thing about vitamin d, some are purely as a result of ignorance and some are out of greed; big pharma pressure to sell expensive drugs to manage symptoms and not use inexpensive vitamin d. So yeah, hang in there it gets better.

As for pictures of supplements, I'm not sure if I can share them here, but just in case I'll send them to you in private messages to avoid moderation of my reply.

      Hey there and welcome aboard!

      Hope you feel well soon.

I've commented on that, but apparently my comment is being monitored or whatever, not sure why, it's kinda starting to get really annoying. Check your private messages.

Hi Elisa, I am looking for K2 also, apparently Holland and Barrett can't get hold of it, been OOS for months sad  (although I haven't been able to read the label fully, so it might not be MK7 version)  Oh gosh, I need slow release Magnesium? I got Magnesium citrate as I read easy absorbed was best! I feel same as you Elisa, feel worse since starting them a week ago, but fingers crossed as I know it can take some time to see a steady improvement.

PS, absolutely know what you mean about standing in the vitamin isle, I sat down all morning researching what to get from town, wrote what the bottles looked like etc so I could find them quickly.

      Hi,

No, you don’t need slow release magnesium. Just divide your daily amount into two or three servings during the day and don’t take them all at once and you should be fine.

When you were going thru the vitamin deficiency did you feel spaced out? Brain fog? Help.

Thats good to know, as the only magnesium citrate I could find, the tablets are huge! So I need to break them in half anyway smile

      Hi Lauryn,

I had all sorts of symptoms from brain fog to anxiety to rapid heart beat, and now most of them are gone. Though I also had anemia due to B12 and folate deficiency as a result of genetic mutation that prohibits me to absorb folate as folic acid which meant that I had to get a supplement that has a biologically active form of folic acid called methylfolate. However, I started taking vitamin d and folate almost at the same period of time so I can’t exactly pinpoint what fixed that issue, but I believe it’s vitamin d since actually it’s a hormone and it would make sense that a deficiency in that hormone could have such detrimental symptoms.

      Feel well soon,

      MrLeaf

Thank you for tour reply. How long did it take to recover? I’ve been taking supplements for a week now.  But I’ve been feeling so tired

      Hey Lauryn,

It took me 3-4 months to correct my vitamin d deficiency as my levels were dangerously low. Be patient with vitamin d supplementation and try not to miss a dose as they all add up since it’s a fat soluble vitamin. When it comes to vitamin d, its simplicity is its downfall. When people have serious conditions, they expect the treatment to be just as serious so my advice stick with it and I assure things will get better just hang in there. And please don’t hesitate to ask if you need anything, I’m always happy to help.

      Hang in there,

      MrLeaf

I’m sorry to bother you, but did you have an outside body experience while going thru this? I’m scared.

      Hey,

My levels were 9 ng/mL which is pretty low. I’ve been a nightowl my whole life so I think that’s why my levels were that low. I am aiming to reach therapeutic blood levels (disease treatment) which are around 70-100 ng/mL. I’m currently around 50 ng/mL.

Not sure what you mean by outside body experience, but I did notice that I started having vivid dreams after correcting my levels.

Meaning as in you didn’t feel like you were in your body. Like you felt disconnected?

      Hi,

I don’t that I had that feeling but I believe this is a symptom of magnesium deficiency.

I read a couple of research papers for a scientist called George Eby who has been studying magnesium for the past fourty years, and according to him, magnesium deficiency does cause depersonalization, which exactly what you described; feeling disconnected or detached from ones body or thoughts. It’s very likely that this is a result of magnesium deficiency since vitamin d depletes your magnesium stores and if you’re deficient this will trigger deficiency symptoms.

Have you tried supplemeting with magnesium? If you did, what form of magnesium did you supplement with? Magnesium Oxide has a very low absorption rate. Try magnesium citrate, glycinate or chloride since all of these have good absorption rates.

How high do your Vitamin d levels need to be? & it isn’t  magnesium because i got mines checked and the doctor said mines is at 2.2

      Hey,

Optimal blood levels of vitamin d are 50-70 ng/mL.

Magnesium blood tests are not accurate  since most of our magnesium is in bones and not in the blood. So you could still be deficient.

The magnesium blood serum test is not reliable and pretty much worthless. What you want to check is in the cell the RBC (red blood cell magnesium test) optimal levels is 6.5.
