Vitamin D deficiency success stories
Posted , 122 users are following.
I am in the midst of this deficiency trying to recover from the horrible symptoms that it can cause. I want to hear from people who have overcome this deficiency and how they did it. If there was adverse affects of long term use of vitamin d supplements.
How long did it take to make a full recovery and any hurdles you ran into along the way.
I am just in need of encouragement right now from this deficiency. It has stopped me in my tracks and life just stopped for me. Being frozen in time while everyone continues on with their life while I suffer and wrestle with the symptoms.
Dealing with doctors who are not knowledgeable with this deficiency can be very frustrating.
Please share your story so I know after the storm comes a rainbow. Your stories will bring encouragement and hope not only to me but for everyone out there searching for answers on vitamin d deficiency.
Thank you and God bless!

hello everyone... in 2012 i started experiencing anxiety and panic attacks, at that time i was not aware what is happening to me so i went to a psychiatrist and he put me on some anti depressants and within days i started feeling good.. when i enrolled in university i met a guy he said Anti depressants have so many side effects.. i started researching on my own and decided to stop them in may 2013...in October same year i started feeling low again and this time symptoms were more serious and at one point i thought that my life is not worth to live but anyhow got some strength to fight these symptoms... so i strarted Antidepressants again and i took them till August 2015 and thn stopped...i started doing meditation and other calming techniques to control my depressive thoughts... in march 2016 i started experiencing symptoms again but this time i refused ti start antidepressants but in oct i failed and had to start them again... i was having many symptoms like body ache, fatigue, depression, poor concentration, impaired memory and many more... i went to a doctor and he asker to me go for thyroid test..my TSH came 10.68... he said i have hypothyroidism, i had no idea till what hypo is at all, so i started reading about it.. i start hating my life,i was feeling so low aftr being diagnosed with hypothyroidism... anyway i went to the doct aftr rechecking it and he put me on syntroid and cholecalciferol 60000IU/gm and he said i should tale one capsule on every alternative day... when i checked about cholecalciferol on the Internet, i though it's better to check my vitamin d before taking it... today i did the test and my vit d came out 15..??.. i took one capsule and later i read on the net that the maximum dosage of d3 is 10000IU/gm but my doctor has said me to take 600000IU/gm...i get confused and some how came here... now i am worried i have already taken one capsule, what should i do now... should i start with 5000IU/gm with magnesium and vitamin k or i shopping take as prescribed my doctor...moreover i have started taking synthroid also, will vitamim d3 and other supplements like magnesium and vitamin k have any interaction... i am also on a low dose of antidepressants, which i am lowering to get off of it... after all these years of pain and suffering... who is responsible for this?? i was misdiagnosed... plsss help me out i am feeling very low... all ur advice amd suggestions will be highly appreciated...I pray for all of u to have a speedy recovery and a joyful life ahead...

While yes, according Vitamin D Council, the upper daily limit is 10000 IU, it’s however the upper limit to those who aren’t deficient in vitamin D. In your case, you were found deficient and were prescribed high doses to get your levels to the normal range as soon as possible. So my advice is, stick with what your physician told you. However, once again, it’s extremely important that you make sure you’re supplementing with Vitamin D3 (cholecalciferol) and not vitamin d2 (ergocalciferol) since D3 is the natural form for us humans, it’s the same form our bodies synthesise when exposed to sunlight. Also, it’s very important to take vitamin K2 as MK7 with magnesium either as glycinate or citrate.

Hope you feel well very soon.
Please read my comment regarding the co-factors needed by vitamin d metabolism: Vitamin K2 and magnesium. Since magnesium supplementation depletes these two and you run into a deficiency in these and this is why you feel worse. I too felt worse but not anymore since I started K2 magnesium.

Sorry to hear you’ve been unwell. Hope you feel well soon.
Comments to other users were also meant for you since you share same issues. I apologize I should’ve mentioned you.
The first thing you need to know is your current vitamin d blood levels. Have you gotten retested after supplementation? Maybe your levels are still low? Also are you taking the co-factors: vitamin k2 mk7 and magnesium? Most issues that occur after vitamin d supplementation could be traced to them.

You mention Magnesium, I have seen a level of 400mg being mentioned, does it depend on the amount of Vit D supplement being taken?
You also mention vitamin k2 mk7? I can find a vitamin K in holland and barrett, but I dont seem to be able to see anything about mk7, again what amount should I be taking?
(I am currently on a 20,000 ui a day for 15 days, then told to get vitD OTC on a continuing basis) Thanks and hope you can advise x

Hi sally,
While there isn’t a general agreement on on the recommended daily amount for vitamin k2 as mk7, some health experts suggested 100mcg for every 10000 of D3 and that’s what I’m doing right now. As for magnesium, the recommended daily amount is 420mg a day. If you don’t have kidney problems, magnesium supplementation is considered safe, I usually supplement between 600-800mg of magnesium either as magnesium citrate or magnesium glycinate as these two have better bioavailability than other forms.
As to where to get them, I’m not really sure about UK, but you should be able to find them in any vitamin store. Personally, I get all my supplements online since they’re a lot cheaper than buying them in my country. I order online from iherb. C om. They ship everywhere.
Feel well soon,

Hi sally,
While there isn't a general agreement on the recommended daily amount of vitamin k2 as mk7, some health experts suggested 100mcg for every 10000UIs of D3, I'm doing this right now. As for magnesium, the recommended daily amount is 420mg a day. Magnesium is generally safe to consume if you don't have kidney issues, I take somewhere between 600-800mg a day either as magnesium citrate or glycinate as these have better bio-availability than other forms, and any excess of magnesium, your body is just going to get rid of in the form of diarrhea.

Is there anyway I can see a picture of the other vitamins I should be taking with the vitamin D. I am going to muscle up the strength to get up & go get some but don't want to be lost at the store trying to figure out what I should get. I took 10,000UI yesterday & woke up feeling worse today.😭

Hi again everone
So I'm 2 weeks in to my suplliments and decided to go shopping last week for the first time in ages, took my daughter to her college interview too but got lost so ended up power walking for almost 30 mins so we were not late, then shopped for 6 hours. I am now barely able to move my legs without muscle pain and weakness, I feel like lead 😕😑
Is this normal with vitamin D deficiency and low iron?

I too suffer from many of the symptoms Lottie mentioned, some of which you don’t even see you many websites that talk about common symptoms, like the coldness, tingling face and anxiety. But I really with struggling with the weakness, especially in my arms, I think that’s what’s causing the slight temble to my hands some days.
I have a 5 year old and 2 year old and it’s just exhausting with working 5 days a week too. And pushing my son in a buggy twice a day.
I’ve been taking the vit D tablets for about 6 weeks and some days feel worse than before I started. Think I may need to look into taking the k2 and magnesium too. Is nice to share stories with others who know how you feel x

Lottie make sure you have a full iron panel with ceruloplasm to see if you are truly low in iron. You might have alot of iron stored in the liver, organs and tissues that is unbound.
Usually if unbound iron rises in the liver vitamin d levels will drop, stay low.
There are many reasons why people's vitamin d is low besides not getting enough sun. Usually it's a magnesium issue caused by unbound iron.
I had low vitamin D with iron issues. It seems like they are connected for some people and not just lack of sun exposure.

Hi Michelle, sorry you are feeling so poorly too, I'm assuming your GP has done a blood test and a vit D deficiency has been confirmed? If you have a deficiency then you might be needing a stronger dose than OTC level, which only your GP can advise on. Gosh you have your hands full, working full time too, take care. I have a bit of a add-hock job at a local college and today I had to tell them I'll not be able to work for the time being until my health improves. I was in terrible pain today and really couldn't concentrate with all the brain fog. It was difficult to do but I am glad I have done it. Would your GP be able to give you a sick note until you feel stronger?

I only work 6 hours days, but all week and often work from home too in evening. I have quite a high pressure job with a lot of deadlines and with 2 kids that don’t let up, it is a real struggle some days, though I don’t think my symptoms are as bad as yours, I really feel for you. I hope you manage to get some well needed rest. I have been readying about vit d lights/lamp - not sad lights as these are different, Vit D lights are quite expensive but seem to have good reviews x

Thanks for your reply Michelle, I'm not sure about the lamps, but I have been researching which vit Ds to buy after my GP course finishes. The ones I have at the moment are tiny and filled with oil of some sort, really easy to swallow, but the ones over the counter seem much bigger and chalky Same with Magnesium. I don't really fancy buying via the internet, I'm going to try and stick with either boots or Holland and Barrett.

You can get up to 10000 IUs of D3 OTC. I’m currently on 5000IUs of D3 got em OTC. 360 softgels per bottle lasts a year. Softgels are way better than tablets in terms of absorption and convenience. Just ask for vitamin d3 softgels when you go there, if they don’t have them then tablets are not bad too.

I have an 8 & 10 year old so I know how hard it is with kids!! I have started to freak myself out, wondering will I have to quit my job(or get fired) & get on disability?? Who will raise my kids? I'm a single mom! My depression & anxiety are bad & cry all the time. I know my kids are worried too. I thought I was losing my mind. The muscle weakness, the heavy arms & legs, the restless leg syndrome, the headaches, dizziness, memory loss, brain fog, hands & eyes twitching, tremors, sweats, and more!! I just want to be better!!! Started 10,000UI yesterday & woke up feeling worse!!😭 I just want to be better!! Reading that I'm not alone & that there is hope that I will recover has done a lot for my soul. Thank you all for sharing your stories!!

Hi Elisa, I can’t imagine how hard it is coping with two kids on your own let alone with this too. keep fighting, I know the anxiety makes it really hard but I’m sure you’re doing better than you realise. My kids are my life and they keep me going every day.
Yes, I have all those too, the muscle weakness, the heavy arms & legs, the restless leg syndrome, memory loss, tremors, sweats and so on. I think people really don’t understand when you say you have a vitamin deficiency!
I felt so bad this morning I went back to the doctors, they are doing more tests, so I hope they will be able to do help.
You’re right, sharing stories really does help you feel like your not alone.
Really hope you start to feel better soon.

Hi Michelle,
I was just wondering how you are doing? Any improvements? I'm on 10,000 units of vitamin D a day & have seem some improvements & I'm very grateful for that. However, some things are still there. It comes & goes. The head pressure/brain fog/anxiety stuff is still there. Also the bones & muscle aches, plus fatigue. I think it's time I try adding Magnesium & K2. I see a lot people say that has helps. Because D3 depletes your magnesium. Let me know how you are doing & what you are taking now. Thanks!! TTYS!

I too have pressure in head, anxiety, I have dizziness random pain in neck and body and more. It’s crazy what this deficiency does to ya. I joined the Facebook group and t has been helpful. I order k2 and magnesium glycinate. However my stomach didn’t agree with the magnesium and my k2 should be here today or tomorrow.
