Waiting for treatment

Hi just joined this forum as my frozen shoulder is really getting
me down. How long has anyone else waited for Treatment?
Had pain since end of June, hospital involved end of August and only had physio last week and ultrasound but was told I need MRI.Hospital is sooo slow, my pain has been unbearable but now I feel like I'm really freezing and worried I'm gonna be too late to get an injection?

Hi, That is about the speed of the hopsitals. You are never too late for injecitons, but remember they do not work for eveyone. I had 3 years of right shoulder and now I have my left shoulder. I am fortunate to have private cover, saw the conultant yesterday and the injections under a local guided via unltrasound are being done today the pm. Some GP's do the injections so it may be worth enquiring. Try and keep arm moving with gentle exercises the physio has done with you. Yes it will be painfull but it is about keeping it moving, pain relief and hot or cold compressess. Best Wishes.

My GP gave me a cortison injection, which didn't help a bit. I was told later that the shoulder joint gets so thickened in the late freezing & frozen stages, that it's pretty much impossible for a GP first to get through the thickened part and to hit on target at all.
That's why guided imagery (ultrasound or fluoroscopy) is the much better way to go with injections.
I think more people would report success if the injections were timed better with the FS stages & only given if guided.
Wishing you great results with your injection treatment!

Just an update well I actually had a cortisone injection on
Tuesday with a shoulder specialist, so cheered me up a bit. He
said probably won't feel the benefit of this one but will give me
another one in 3 weeks. He examined me and said I don't
need an MRI as definately have FS. He was also really
annoyed that I had started physio as said it's the worst thing
for this condition and told me to cancel further appointments
and just gentle stretch my arm.

Did you see the specialist privately? I have been suffering since June, had ultrasound, 3 physio sessions & 2 cortisone injections - which I was told had to be at least 3 months apart. Am a type 1 diabetic, woman over 50 so I am apparently in all the areas that are susceptible to FS.

Hi. I saw dr Eltayeb - Diana Princess of Wales Hospital Grimsby. It was the luckiest break I ever had. He took one look at my poor frozen shoulder and booked me for an overnight stay - I had arthroscopic capsular release and it was a miracle. Injections had not worked for me and I was at the end of my rope. A short course of physio and my shoulder was back to normal. When my second shoulder froze up a couple of years later there was no hesitation- I paid for a private consultation and then he did the procedure again on the NHS. You'll see my story elsewhere in this thread. Maybe Grimsby is a long way from you, but remembering how bad I felt, I would have travelled to the moon! Very best of luck whatever you decide x Surgery wax the best option for me - I got my life back in a very short time.

That's a very positive response - I live in North Lincolnshire & in fact have worked at the trust hospital sites. I presume I will need a referral from my GP.
Many thanks

Hi Linda, you have my sympathies. Unfortunately I have had to go down a very lengthy journey to get treatment for my shoulder. I have had frozen shoulders on both sides but not as nasty as this one. It came on gradually during March 2016, at first I thought it was because of my demon personal trainer who had made me do deadlifts and other exercises to increase my shoulder strength. Not sure if that was the trigger or the root cause of this one. Firstly I took painkillers and tried hot and cold compresses thinking it was muscular. However, as time went on my range of movement became less and more and more painful. By the end of June I had been referred for physiotherapy and when I finally got an appointment in July, the pain was so bad that she could only give me some ultrasound therapy to help with the pain and strapped up my shoulder. I went back to my GP on her advice and he sent me for an ultrasound, which proved very painful as I couldn't move my shoulder to show the joint etc. I was given a steroid injection by my GP (can your GP give you an injection?), this had sorted me out in the past but not this time. Eventually in August I was referred to hospital, but had to wait until the end of October for an appointment. The consultant said I had a frozen shoulder, and offered me a MUA which I jumped at. However, as I suffer with a blood clotting disorder, my procedure can only be done at the hospital I was seen at and not at his usual sites. I am still waiting for a date.

Hi Linda....
I have had a really hard time getting the treatment I need to release my shoulder joint. Pain began end of January, severe pain for 3-4 months...etc. The frozen shoulder followed the graph to the point where it is supposed to "unfreeze" and it won't. My surgeons REFUSE to even consider any intervention until I have suffered a year! I am furious, but what can I do?
I have an appointment with the orthopedic specialist January 23, 2017. No one should be forced to live in such pain if there is a remedy...
Do whatever you can whenever they will let you!
I feel your pain!
How long? For me, ONE YEAR!!!!! Still in pain.

I'm in California BTW.
Sounds like you get better treatment options with the NHS.
I wish I lived in the UK. 😕

Bloody awful condition. Like others I have had it twice. Once in each shoulder. First time I didnt really understand it and the consultant I saw diagnosed but didnt treat. This time I paid £100 to see a guy privately. This was after spending a fortune on physio and having a cortisone injection. That did no good at all. The guy I saw said that FS is a benign self limiting condition which goes through three stages. His advice was dont operate or anything until the shoulder is fully frozen. He then offered me a route to him through the NHS. A couple of weeks late I had an arthroscopic capsular release., in a very nice posh hospital. I followed this with physio. It took a few weeks to get full ROM but that gut wrenching pain was gone immediately. As a bloke any scars wouldnt have bothered me, but actually I cant see any scarring at all from the operation.
