Watching surgery on you tube !!!!!

Posted , 12 users are following.

Hi All,  I finally got my date through for right THR on 15th oct so I decided I would watch the posterior approach on you tuber as that is the way mine is being done !!!!!!  Wow no wonder we are so sore afterwards ! Especially the double dislocation bit. I'm not sure now if it was a good idea to watch or not !! But at least now I know, maybe ignorance is bliss !! I'm having the spinal anaesthesia and I think I will be asking for heavy sedation. Still 35 days from now the first hip will be done, then I have the same to look forward to 3 months later !!! Has anyone else watched the op and if so how did you feel ???  Maggie.

    Hi maggiemac,

You are one brave lady, if you could sit through watching that youtube you will sail through the surgery.  I am 3 weeks post op, had a spinal and light sedation, everything went really well.  BUT I still have not been brave enough to watch the youtube !!!!!!!

I had a double hip replacement, two at once. I have watched the operation but no way could I watch the dislocation.......I couldn't do it. To think that they have to put your foot over the back of your head is something I could not imagine, yey alone watch it being done.

Hi Patricia,  not quite up to your head but they don't half have you in some funny and very unnatural looking positions !!!!! I didn't think I would be able to bend that way !!! So here's hoping. I'm not exactly a lightweight so I hope him and his team are very strong !! I wonder who does their surgery when they hurt themselves after pulling us about ?? Do you think they all do each other !!!! That would be funny, I bet they wouldn't have to be on a waiting list as long as we are ???? Once you are all better you should watch it as its actually quite interesting ! Keep up the good recovery and take care. Love Maggie xxxxxx

      Hi Maggie

Slightly off topic but I have a great physio....in fact he is head of the physio  dept in the hospital I go to.  Well about 4 months ago he broke his leg {dont know how or the details} but I thought the same thing......"Physcian heal thyself  LOL" and I wondered how long he would have to wait for physiotherapy   LOL

      Love

I've read a medical study that showed better outcomes for patients who watched a video of the surgery prior to having the surgery. It actually decreased anxiety (pre & post) as people felt more informed.

Now, the video they saw, I believe, was from the patient's view though, not the full surgical view.

Hi Maggie I took a year to decide whether to go fo post or anterior hip rep. Eventually went for anterior .i had this done on Tuesday 9th September  ,I had a spinal block . There was no one more anxious than I was . But all I can say thus far everything has been amazing.I have a tiny scar that is glued together, pain management has been excellent.

I had no after anaesthetic effects and am walking using crutches. Showered on my own today!i I am overweight and worried how I would react to THR!

Wont go.to rehab as BP is low. However I am sure whatever you decide to do will be good for you, lots of luck

    And good health
