We need to be gentle with each other ...

Dear hippy clan.....

I have a concern. Rose's survey suggests that there are a goodly number in the present cohort of recent hippies who have struggles in and on the road to revovery.

I suss I've had a better than average recovery myself, as a pretty fit 70yo guy. But, at the time of my operation and after, nearly a year ago, everyone else seemed to be throwing away crutches after a couple of weeks, driving, doing tap dancing or whatever. Sooo, while this site is lovely, it was a little hard for me to post I was struggling to cross the longue without crutches, hanging onto furniture and then lunging to the next piece of furniture!

Now though, every one to gloomy and struggling, so it seems a little hard  to post I've just walk 20,000 steps or 11 miles across fenland at the weekend!

Sooooo, let's celebrate ups and downs - whatever the prevailing weather!

Take care

Mic

Thanks for nice replies - all i was keen to say is that if we feel excited or sad -do share!

And rocketman, my Exeter hospital thought TEDS were rubbish science, so I never wore them!

That really gives me hope Mic, thank you for your post!

I am 3 and a half weeks post op and as you mentioned feeling really crappy, as i dont feel i am recovering as quick as others say! Bit of a complex op from previous surgery, so strictly no weight bearing for 6 weeks which i think isnt helping.

Hearing how well you are doing now, helps me keep a positive mindset and i will get there in the end!

    Bring it on lol.

Oh Mic, I thought I had remembered just how tough these first two weeks were, I didn't and they are. I am hobbling between sofa and bathroom and need a little sleep after getting dressed in the morning. The difference this time is that I know that it will all get better - faster, slower or the same as others, the end result will be better than the half life I had.

Listening too ther people's small, and great, victories spur me on (except on my down days when I want to poke them in the eye!!!). I am not sure what I would have done without my hipster friends and you were definitely one of them both in June 15 and now. Thank you for staying around x

      Kate,

Even with just 10 weeks between my operations, I forgot how hard it was and some of the experience of being totally disabled immediately after the operation.  After 16 weeks I am still going through Groundhog Day.

I agree.  I am new to most people in this current hippie clan, but in the past, when I was at my worst, there was a person who practically stalked me.  She took the time to read every one of my posts and accused me of being a "doomer and gloomer" because my experience was so extreme.  The monitor deleted more than one of her posts and even posted himself, Alan, that basically, not verbatim, this is a site for all stories and experiences.

If I had not found this site, I would probably have offed myself because my life as I knew it was over. And I did not know what to do.  But my hippie clan at that time helped me so very much and I found my way to a revision. I choose to come back to this site from time to time, in an effort to give back even one thing to someone else.  I love this site and the people.

We are each our own glorious story.

Along with a majority of absolutely wonderful people there will always be some weirdos. Glad you're still around, Dawn, you are an inspiration to many facing such a tough turn of events.

      Glorious indeed.

      Echo the other comments.

It is so lovely when two people can get together and help each orher as has happend on this forum more than once - this forum has been a lifesaver for me too.

Cheering for you, Dawn! Yes, those of us with not-so-great experiences need to post, too, for support and ideas. If I had not posted about my problem, I never would have gotten a comment that put me on track to figuring it out! My surgical ortho has a big blank hole in his knowledge about it, and I have found new doctors who can help me.

Without this site, and its "doomers and gloomers", I would be in despair right now, without a clue of what was wrong.

I am so happy that you got through that awful time and are much better now. I'm very glad you are posting and that I have gotten to know you a little bit through this forum.

      Thanks for being here!
