Weakend immune system?

Sorry for yet again another discussion but I have a question! Does anyone know If glandular fever can weaken the immune system and make you more vulnerable to things like skin infections?

Absolutely. I have had shingles and cold sores during mono. I have also had other strange skin reactions such as light rosacea (went away eventually) and skin being extremely sensitive to the slightest touch or pressure, everything would leave a mark (dermatographic urticaria).

Yes I have had those too, on my chest and around my collar bones. No idea where they came from but it looked like the tiny broken blood vessel spots you can see in a hickey.

I don't think it can weaken the immune system after one has recovered completely. But I definitely believe it can mess up the immune system. After I got sick, I've got new allergies and acne on my face and other parts of my body (I hadn't had acne for a very long time.) I've also had lumps and cysts in some parts of my skin.

Sometimes I feel as if I were living in a different body. It's hard to believe that there's a huge difference between "before mono" and "after mono", at least in my case. I can't wrap my head around that. rolleyes

I’ve also struggled with acne like spots on my back and chest area. It’s so strange how mono can do this. I’m 5 weeks in and thinking everything should be cleared up by now but obviously that’s not the case.

      Hi Pagie,

So sorry you're having these horrible symptoms, remember not to panic because recovery can take a little bit of time, it is normal after 5 weeks still to be going through this unfortunatley but then equally normal to go on and make a full recovery - again don't panic if it still takes a wee bit of time, because recovery will definitely come with time.

Dan yes it's such a hard illness to get your head around, and dealing with how it leaves your body feeling having gone through it. Remember your body resilience does return over a period of time (even when you think it won't happen as it's been going on too long) and you will get back to full health again.

Thinking of you Paige and Dan and believing fully in your recovery still.

      Craig
