Weaning off atenolol

So this may sound crazy but hear me out. I'm a 32 year old black female with high bp which I take lisinopril/hctz for. Well in January I started feeling anxious so my doctor gave me buspirone. Well I took it starting around May because really I was hesitant about taking it, but it made me loopy/dizzy like and I had palpitations so strong I ended up going to another doctor who put me on atenolol 25mg for 10 days and told me to stop the buspirone.  So I stopped taking the buspirone immediately and stopped the atenolol Monday and it's Wednesday and please believe me when I say I have never felt this way in all my life. Like when I walk I feel like I might just faint. And even sitting down I feel so weird. I can't even explain it. I'm jittery and when I ate I felt a little nauseous. Any idea how long this might last? My right eye hurts too.

I have been taking it for about less than two months and not sure how long it will take to get rid of this side effects. It really messes up my sleep. If I had known it, I wouldn't have taken it and trusted my primary doctor. To be honest, I have seen him a lot of times about the symptom but it seems he was of no help. He told me himself is taking antenolol too but at 25mg dosage.

Hello I am just wondering if anybody has any of these side effects listed below?

I have been only taking antenolol for 3 weeks. But I did not really follow the guideline (2.5 weeks 50, about 1 week 25, and 3 days 12.25) to taper off. Now it is my third week, and I am feeling terrible. The first two weeks are bad, but after that I am feeling a little bit worse.

    1. Palpation at night during sleep
    2. light-leaded or dizziness
    3. Chest tightness
    4. left and right chest pain (sore) sometimes in the middle but last for a couple seconds
    5. shortness of breath (eps walking a little)
    6. shoulder soreness or soreness in shoulder blade
    7. little arm soreness or numbness
    8. soreness in the neck once in a while
    9. feel tired or fatigue
    10. bloated in stomach
    11. constipation

These symptoms really scare me and they seem to be those of pre-heart attack. I talked to some of the doctors esp my primary doctor and he thought I was having anxiety disorder.

Hope somebody could shed some light on this.

    Hello all

I'm part of this thread, I'm completely of the beta blockers now. As I live in the uk 🇬🇧. I was a bit scared as people would say cold turkey you should never go and just stop beta blockers. I never had any symptoms of just stopping. So the g. p was correct at the time. So loosing the weight did help. I'm still jogging still keeping the weight off even if it is like a yo yo at time's. My resting heartbeat as been 52. Over the Christmas period of eating junk my resting heartbeat does raise to 60+. Until I get back on the slimming world plan. I hope all is well with you all. Just wanted to give you a update. So going cold turkey and just stopping might not be for all. But it was in my case. Maybe I was lucky 🍀.

It sounds like light diabetes. Most black people get diabetes in their lives at some point. I know of quite a few that have died from it. I think you should talk to your doctor and listen to the doctor.

I am trying to get off Atenolol. I have been on it for 3 years. 25 mg a day. Now down to half for last 4 weeks. not sure how to taper from here. I tried stopping a few days ago but high heart rate and extreme anxiety. Should I go to 1/4? if so how long and what do I do fro there? Cardiologist is not being helpful with the weaning down. Thank you to anyone who can assist. I regret the day I ever took Atenolol.
