Weather affrcting PMR

Hello , Iam wondering if anyone thinks that the weather affects their PMR. I live in Australia and really think that in the hot weather my body does'nt ache so much. When rain is coming I do really suffer. I am not sure if others find this or just me so thought I"d put it out there for a few other thoughts.

    Yes,I too suffer more in winter.In the U.K. it could be an old wifes tale but years ago in the case of RA if you could afford to advice was to move to a warmer climate

      Yes I also have heard that.  It isn't the cold so much as the build up to rain I am finding affects me most I hope you can say warm and not suffer too much

    Hi Febes, I live in Florida and I have found that the hot weather has helped aches and pains, much more so than when I lived in New York.  I have been dx w/ PMR  about 6 wks ago, being treated now with 30 mg. pred. and doing well.  I hope the warm weather there continues to hep you to feel better.  Good luck, El

      HI Elijo Hows things going with you ? Well we certainly have some hot weather 39 today and only aching arms which at the moment I really don't know what to do with but it could be worse .  I hope you are travelling well and are slowly coming down in pain and mgs.

    I live in the US, (Washington state) and when the weather took a sudden turn from very warm, to cold and rainy in October, I took a nose dive. My muscles ached, my joints got that burning sensation again, and my fatigue level increased. I had reduced from 7 to 6.5 on October 1, and had to take it back up to 7mg for a month, before I tried to reduce a little again. I still don't feel as good as I did when it was warm. It's going to be a long winter!!

      I hope you don't suffer too much this winter. I find that the rain is actually worse for me than the cold. Stay warm

      Me too--damp and changes in the barometric pressure affect me more too.I'm becoming a human barometer. I had an appointment with my rheumatologist about a week and a half ago, and I told him I was slowing up my reduction because of that. He told me I knew my body best, plus with the holidays coming up, that maybe it would be best to wait until the first of the year before I try any more reducing. I feel so thankful I have such a wonderful doctor to work with after hearing all the horror stories of what others are going through.

    Hi febes, I'm in Canberra! Given its summer here I presume you've noticed an improvement or is it just the rain that sets you off?

    Personally I haven't noticed a difference but I dislike hot weather!

      Hi FlipDover Aust  I really dislike the hot weather but my body likes it, I was on a higher dose of Pred during the winter( 9mg) and I didn't notice the pains so much with the cold but did so   when it was building up to rain. After it rains the pain lessens

    nice to see someone in australia on this chat line besides myself lol and yes i do think the weather does play a part in aches and pains , but its the same with old wives tales like "knowing its going to rain when joints ache , my self i have trouble with the heat as its one thing that upsets my epilepsy , also in stormy weather too , also the full moon , upsets can easily be blamed on atsmephere  )im suposed to be over the PMR , but still get aches and pains , i take a vit,b also calcium every day , suplaments like that cant hurt anyone , , mainly im so pleased im off the prednisone , soo many side affects its not funny hey , anyway hang in there hope you get some relief ,

      Hello Old Nanna I hope you are not having too many episodes with your epilepsy . We are having a heat wave so things are pretty warm here. I have achey arms but nothing too bad and I think its the build up to rain that really makes me ache rather than just cold. I wish you well

    I live in Florida.....I've always noticed more aches and pains when

    a low pressure system is on the way...even way before I had

    ever heard of PMR.    We're supposed to have our first cold weather

    this week-end (down to 47 which is cold for us) and I'll try and notice

    if the PMR pain gets noticeable.

    I haven't really noticed changes to PMR, at least not since starting pred, but I used to notice what I thought was increase in osteoarthritis pain in warm humid weather.  Also I often get a headache when the weather changes, usually when it is improving.  Always was a contrary person!

    I live by the sea in North Central Newfoundland (NL). I am sure that this cold, damp climate affects my PMR. In India last year my pre-PMR was apparent but manageable. When I returned to NL it hit me severely. Pred saved me though I am trying to hopefully wean off.

      Hey Nervebyte, you are the first person from Atlantic Canada that I have encounterd here!  Not quite close enough to meet for a caffeine fix, but wave of hand anyway, from Nova Scotia.  biggrin

      i survived and enjoyed Hfx for 6 years however now living some 10 meters from the sea has changed things. Lots...but the woodstove 24/7 is the best dry heat for the mind, body & soul.

      I don't live far from Halifax Harbour - in fact I see Dartmouth Cove from my window, a block away.  Lashings of rain today, which I think you are getting as snow.  Glad you'll be cosy!

      ...and a big old bulldog who sleeps well off the floor. the 4 legged creatures in cold and dampness are subject to arthritis etc
