Posted , 10 users are following.

FEELING alot better NO bad dreams NO aches in neck  and shoulders NO arm ache in rights side elbow and NO hip pain which is the side effects i was having with these statins  this has  stopped, only a little chest pain in evening but that might be stresscheesygrin... told MY cardilogist at hospital but NO response from them....BUT still getting pins and needles in hands and feet and a painfull left foot.

WENT to  Doctors regarding painfull left foot and tingling feelings still in hands and feet and  also told l him i had been AE for 3hours a couple of days before hand and just given iburfren gel put that on 3 times a day and foot exercises with NO effect, Pain still there told him my drugs i was on and he went  NUTS  you WILL die if you do not take the statins so i said WHY DONT  you take them he barked back he was not the one with a heart problem and new far better than me he didnt even know what drugs i was on   ..But these are the devils drugs and are killers i told him and i have never been a regular vistor  to this practise since starting these drugs basically that was the end of conversation he gave me my prescription  which ended on a blank paper which i never relized and when given to pharmacy was refused due no  drugs given on prescribiton form  had to go back again and see this miserable little doctor to get my proper prescription which  included statin,,,,  NOOoooo    .

Funny thing is I.Should also have had a liver blood test done in in the first 3 weeks which i never had promised rehab classes in the first 4 weeks after 2  stents that has never happened rang them up and was told to bizzy and it might be in March thats 5 months after op surprised...TO ME this is disaster   by medical people who should be looking after your care and interests but maybe this is due to me NOT  wanting to take there dreaded statins  and this is pay back TO ME....twisted

sorry for spelling but Cannot find glass s .... more next week

    Hi Graham

your side effects are identical to mine. I to stopped my statins and will never take it again. Most of the side effects eased almost immediately after stopping part from hand and feet tingling, it took almost 6 months for my feet to stop and now I've been Statin free for almost 2 years I'm 80% better. The hand tingling is still there but only slightly and some days not at all.

Im sure statins have given me some permanent nerve damage which prevents hands from completely healing but I'm more than happy to be left with that side effect rather than take them and suffer such extreme and debilitating effects.

good luck with your recovery, I'm sure the longer you are statin free the healthier you'll become, although it does take time.

Graham..can you describe how painful your left foot is...when I was on statins one day without any warning my right foot got so painful...from my heel right to the start of my toes...I couldn't walk the pain was so bad ...worse first thing in the morning ..getting out of bed....I went to my gp...he told me it was PLANTER FASCIATIS...might not be the right spelling....inflamation in the tendon which runs from the heel along the foot...he gave me antibiotics which took about 3 weeks to work...I've never felt pain like it ...the thing is when I googled statins and side effects....this came up...I've been off statins for 2 or 3 years now... as has my husband....and I've never had this pain since...my husband still has some of the side effects of statins....memory not good...his fingers ache....life has just not been the same after taking statins...we'll never take them again..

A friend had Plantar fasciitis soon after starting a different statin. He did not believe it when I told him the statin had caused it. He had weeks of physio and but the plantar did not go until he stopped the statin.

    Hi Graham

have you thought about changing your GP? Seems like your relationship doesn't have any sense of respect. And have they tried you on a number of different statins or looked at any alternatives?

I know it is scary to think of taking any kind of statin when you've had such bad side effects as that's how I feel and I've only been on simvasatin-the first one they gave everyone years back. What I want to know is-are their any statins that work in different pathways to the ones that have these terrible side effects for some people?

Are you still under the hospital? Could you talk to a specialist re colesterol? And who gets these liver tests? Nobody I've ever spoken to.

My feeling is that maybe these are useful drugs for some people-they lower their colesterol with no side effects, but when people like us present with side effects that are not acceptable, we get ignored. I'm not even convinced that my GP at the time reported back to their body that monitors all drug so it's possible that these side effects are actually under-reported.

Recently even the British Medical Association spoke out against GPs getting paid to prescribe statins to those people with no risk factors. These financial inducements are part of the effort to blanket the whole population as the level goes down at which they want us to take this drug. Who is making a profit in all this? Good luck with your diary Cheers Rosemary

Did anybody see last weekend's Sunday Express?

It was very revealing a  FrontPage expose by the chap who initiated the use of statins who now has done a complete U-turn and agrees that more research is needed before STATINS are prescribed ..............I rest my case!

I didn't see it....wish I had ...can you elaborate ....it sounds very interesting

    Graham -

I sense that what you meant to say in your title of this thread was "Week 4 OFF the dreaded statins..."

If you can, I think it would be helpful for us if you were to change your title to what you actually meant to say, for those of us surfing this site for info about statins.  Assuming I am right in the first place...

Whether Graham did mean "off" or whether he did mean "of"......it hasn't stopped a lot of is following his post for the past two months.
