Weight loss during Menopause

Hi there.
Ive posted a few times here and received much support. Ive also spoken a little about weight loss but wanted to post this to specifically address and ask those
who struggle with
weight loss during this time?
My appetite has been really poor for this time period ive been in Meno. 1 yr.
Mainly i notice that i try to eat/push foods/ and do not gain.
for those who have the other problem with weight gain. be thankful! The weight loss is scary, and upsetting when you are used to being a healthy normal weight. I would trade over weight vs under any day.
Ive also been dealing with thirst, and its like im not quenching thirst, but have a dry mouth. Mornings are dreadful with huge exhaustion..only a reprieve later in the evening when i feel calmer and safe.
Although my thyroid labs come back normal..im tempted to think that it could be combined with a thyroid issue. It seems like thyroid and Meno share similarities in the symptoms..
Anxiety/depression and this weight/nausea/stomach issue have been the biggest factors impairing my ability to function.
I also know that the gut is tied to the mind, so perhaps this is the problem...
I would love to hear back on your issues pertaining to weight loss, your stories your thoughts.
Thank you and thanks for this forum..

Hi Maui blu,
I'm right there with you, its been such a struggle watching my weight just dwindle off of me and to not actually be trying to get that extra 10 pounds off which is what I've always tried to do.. Nope not anymore every time I get on the scale I cover my eyes and do a peek thru to make sure I havent lost anymore.. I'm struggling to stay at 125 lbs and I'm 5'7 it doesn't seem like that bad but like you say when youve been a steady healthy weight all your maybe adult life this can and is scary.. And at 125 lbs I look way to thin in my opinion..and sick of everyone who I haven't seen in a while asking are you ok what's with all the weight loss? I too am nausea and don't have the best appetite, and as soon as I put something more into my diet I'm slapped with worse nausea very bad bloating and gas , Not too comfortable... So I just cook all my boring meals , turkey vegetables, rice every other day because it bloats me, but eat it for the calories, and apples fruits , and foods I know don't bother me, id be AOK if not for the nausea and bloating, can't wait for that to leave me!!! What about you what do you eat??

I eat whatever I can but small bits of this and that. I will eat oatmeal or apples protein bars anyting that I can but I end up not being able to eat much because I'm so nauseous.
I used to be about a hundred and thirty pounds and I'm 5 7 now I'm a hundred and 16 lb
And it's scary to look on the scale.
Yes I know what you mean people think you are doing it on purpose and you're not.
Other than the eating and weight problem is everything else okay?
Yes I also have gas and bloating it's ridiculous I feel like I may have parasites that's how bad it is but I don't think I do.
Menopause has wreaked havoc in my life for certain I just need to go with it though..

Hi, I am struggling with weight loss and digestive issues in what i think is perimenopause... how are you doing now?

Yep, I've lost about 7 lbs. It doesn't sound like much, but I'm pretty small to begin with.
At first I know I lost the weight because I didn't have an appetite from the severe anxiety and weird taste in my mouth. Nothing tasted good at all.
The first month of all the (now obvious) perimenopause symptoms was horrific. I looked gaunt, pale and sickly. My husband was really concerned. We were relieved when I got my appetite and color back.
Anyway, I've been trying to keep the weight on, and whenever I get on the scale, I think I HAVE to have gained some back since eating so much more. Nope. Stuck at the same low number.
I also had my thyroid tested early last year and all was fine. But, like you, I wonder if the hormonal shift of perimenopause has caused some kind of thyroid issue.

hi Trinity yeah it just makes me uncertain because everybody gains weight so I thought for sure that it's a problem that's been combined with menopause.
I think they don't know a lot still about our hormones because there are so many of them and they all work together our adrenals, thyroid sex hormones Etc so I would think that if we are diminished and shutting down in some of them then the others would have harder work also in catching up. All very complicated and over my head for sure. How old are you now? Glad you have your color back now

I'm only 42. This is all so new and bizarre to me. I was raised by my dad, so that, combined with never learning anything about menopause really caught me off guard. I honestly thought menopause didn't start until your 60s! Anyway, I agree that for some of us, weight loss is hormone related and not JUST poor appetite.
I'm glad I got my color back too....and the dark under eye circles are finally going away!
Hope you endure this hormonal rollercoaster successfully and with lots of support

I can understand how you feel with the weight loss, in peri I found it really daunting when I loss my appetite and it became a real issue with me as I felt I had to force the food down as I really loss my apetite. I became too scared to even bath and shower as I was away I lost weight. I went on to have gastitis which caused my loss of appetite and it was a long uphill struggle getting over that. Eventually my weight went the other way and I put it on , now my weight has levelled off to what it was before all this.

Do gastriitis? Hmm. You know i dealt with a mild version of this in my late 40's when i didnt even register that i was in Perimeno..and so now all the things that ailed me are not hugely magnified..what once i could manage is now a problem..(weight, nausea, low mood etc)
Im trying to keep it on. Its good you are back now from where you were, are you post meno now?
thanks for the insight
xoxo
