WET WIPE WASH

I am amazed that in this current world of technological and medical excellence, when we can send mankind to different planets, build robotic beings, conceive babies in test tubes and rebuild body parts, we cannot resolve such a simple issue as my 6 years old chronic dry eye /bleph condition.  More amazing that it takes a cheap soggy well known wipe to actually do the job.  Who needs progress!

Longer story shorter - I am under Specialist/Eye Hospital eventually diagnosed Chronic Dry Eye/Bleph/floppy eyelid sydrome/over production of tears (quantity not quality), being told it would be life long issue and nothing could be done apart from heat pads/baby shampoo eye wash as a vigorous health routine!.  I have constant soreness, pain, redeye, red skin, swollen lids, watering, loss of eyelashes with misdirectional growth and I have spent a fortune purchasing almost all lotions and potions from chemists and online in an attempt to try to help with the discomfort. I have had to do my own lengthy research on the internet to resolve this, as doctors have done nothing to help (shame on them). They presbribed the usual over the counter cheap comfort drops.

So it was with great interest and surprise that I read about Wet Ones wipes.  This is end of week one and I have followed the "Wet Wipe Wash" and am happy and amazed to say that there is an improvement.  This is the first week in 5 years that I have had a very low level of pain and less watering, and I would say that for a while during the day I did not have to focus on it, which in itself is rare, as this has been a constant unwanted companion.  I usually daily use eye drops about every 15 minutes to try for relief, and bottles that should last 2 months are gone in days, but I have used them sparingly since starting this routine.  I also do one wash a day with a mix pea sized spot of baby shampoo/200mls approx water and 1 drop of pure tea tree oil, wipe it along eyelashes with cotton tip.

I am now hopeful for the future, even though I have a long way to go, that I can get on top of it and stop the pain and hopefully my eyelashes will grow back.  All in all a big heartfelt thank you to everybody who has written their story, which is helping all of us to acquire healthy, pain free eyes once again.  Never thought it would happen.   I will follow up on my journey......

I am glad that the wet ones have helped you. When you use the shampoo/tea tree oil combo do you rinse it off after a few minutes or leave it on?  I have the same situation with missing and misdirected lashes.

Hello Denise - I leave it on - I think that if it is left there it has to be doing more good and it does not annoy me.  The smell is more potent for me that the product.  Have you tried wet ones or anything else to help you? Were you given any advice about your lashes eventually growing back?  I used to have great long lashes, with the bottom ones just as long as the top - now they are awful.  Occasionally I do a bit of mascara but that is when I realise just how bad they are.  Would like to hear your story.  x Col

My doctor did not really give me much advise on my lashes except to use ocusoft lid scrubs. In addition I have started using thera tears sterilid. It is a foam that you put on your lids and lashes and leave on for one minute. It has tree tea oil in it and feels nice. Between those two my lids are not swollen and there is hardly any crust.

But my lashes .. I lose at least one a day. I’m afraid to even rub them and no makeup except for a creme Eye shadow when I go somewhere. I really don’t want to lose any more. I keep reading about manuka honey and other products but it’s so confusing and getting expensive too.

    Dear Colhoo,

The UK wipes with Benzalkonium Chloride seem to be harsher for most people. Many have had to buy online the ones from the US. The ones in the yellow package that come in a box for individual use can be used too. Some of the ones in the Red are now changing. The last ingredient is Leaf Juice and that should help to find the Red or Yellow ones that are what I used.

I used the yellow ones on my eyes to make sure they were the same and had no ill effect and I did not wash it off. It can be washed off in 10 min after using. It takes that long to kill the problem on the surface from what I read.

So for those who find the UK wipes too harsh give the US ones a try.

    Hope this helps,

Thanh you Lynda for that useful info.  I tried to get the US ones online and all I seemed to find were the large plastic containers and most of the other smaller packs were out of stock - I guess lots of people are buying them.

I guess the UK ones may be harsher as they container other ingredients, even though they contain a smaller amount of BC that the US ones.  You would think they would contain the same ingredients really as they are the same make.  I will keep searching online and may have to get back to you for more advice on where to get them in US.  Best wishes   Col

Forgot to ask you, what are the different ingredients now in the red ones to the yellow ones?  Do they still contain a higher amount of BC than the UK ones.  On my searches it seems that many companies  are cashing in on these wipes are some are selling at very high prices.  If you have any details of companies in US dispatching to the UK then I would be grateful for that knowledge.  x

      Dear colhoo,

I just know that the last ingredient is leaf juice in the red ones and the yellow. When it wasn't I knew it had changed. So that is what to look for on the ingredients. Benzalkonium Chloride is in the UK ones. I am in the US so don't know the amount.

The Wet Ones I used have .3% Benzethonium Chloride in them.

You can search Amazon and see if you can get the box of Wet Ones wipes. They are 24 singles. They are in a Red box and a Yellow box. Just check the back and make sure the last ingredient is leaf juice.

Honjon, on this site, did use the UK wipes.

      Hope this helps,

Are the yellow ones the Citrus scent ones as that seems to be all I can find?

The ones that I am using are Wet Ones Sensative Skin. The last ingredient is leaf juice which is what I read about. These are in a large white dispenser with green water droplets..40 hyperallergenic wipes. I cut one into smaller pieces and they stay moist in a baggie all day. I use them to clean my lashes and around my eyes when drops overflow. Much more gentle than tissue.

      Dear colhoo,

Yes, those are the ones. I still have some of the red ones that end in leaf juice and then the next ones I bought, the last ingredient was citric Acid. These seem to have a lot more Aloe in them.

I did use the yellow on my eyes and no ill effects like the original red ones. I did not try the other red ones.

      Hope this helps,

      Dear Lynda,

Thank you so much for the information that you shared. I have had blepharitus for about 15 years. I have it in both eyes but my right eyelid seems to be worse and is swollen and red. I have all of the symptoms everyone talks about. It is maddening. I was so encouraged to read about how Wet ones have helped you rid yourself of this horrible disease, I guess you could call it? Anyway I bought the red box of Wet ones yesterday at a Shop Rite market near by. I used them 3 times yesterday and will use 4 times starting today. It seems my eyelid is redder and feels sore. Is this normal in the beginning and does it get better? I hope. Thank you.

      Dear Ruth Anne,

You may be allergic to the wipes if you are using the right ones. The last ingredient is Barbadensis Leaf Juice. The yellow box of Wet Ones have the same ingredients. Some of the red ones have changed.

If you are having trouble and are using the right ones you may have to try other things like Tea Tree Oil or other products that have Benzethonium Chloride in them.

If you need that info let me know.

Don't increase your use but decrease if having problems. Do you have problems with having sensitive skin? Are you allergic to detergents or fabric softeners? If so, you may not be able to use these.

Let me know how you are getting on.

Thank you Lynda. So thankful for your help. The red box that I bought does say Barbadensis Leaf Juice for the last ingredient. I do have very sensitive skin. I just used for the 3rd time today. This is the 3rd day I have been using Wet ones.  It seems to feel a bit better. Did you or anyone else have like a white line across lids at your lashes? One dr. told me it was gunk from blepharitus. Another eye dr. said I probably had it all along and used to cover with eye liner and never noticed it??? I don't use eye make up anymore because eyes have been so bothersome for the last 15 yrs. including dry eye, which I also use separate no preservative eye drops. How long did it take for your eyes to feel and look better? My eyelids still red, but only 3rd day. They are still itching and burning.

Maybe I should have the other information that you mentioned too, just in case I am allergic??? I hope not. I am so looking forward to this being gone!!!

I was told  that it is incurable too. I hope so much that this will work!!

      Thank you for your help.

      Dear ruth anne,

I was looking at where to buy in Canada the wipes that someone mentioned but the bad news is they were recalled and no longer available. I also looked up Vagisil as someone mentioned using that too and it having Benzethonium Chloride in it. I am in the US and could not find any with that in it.

Perhaps, you could check if you are in the UK and see if Vagisil has Benzethonium Chloride in it. The person said she was allergic to the wipes and used that.

The good news is you can use Tea Tree Oil. There was a person, on this site, who told the ratio of Tea Tree Oil and olive Oil to use once a week and every day. Now, it was for the mite (Demodex) problem but what I saw was the ratio that was safe to use from the Dr.

He was tintin25 and he was responding to oliver8. He said "To get 100% pure Tea Tree Oil and it was available in Holland & Barratt for under 500 pounds." He also said "we diluted 50/50 with basic olive oil for the once a week treatment and 10/90 for the twice-daily treatment."

You can use Tea Tree Oil and baby shampoo to wash eyes with too. There are products, mentioned on this site, that have Tea Tree Oil in them such as wipes.

Google the products. You can try the Manuka Honey too.

The Manuka oil is 33 times stronger than Tea Tree Oil and has antibacterial properties but would have to ask or research that one. Honey would be safe.

I am sorry they  don't make that product but there are these options and you can read on others results here too.

      Hope this helps,

Thank you so much Lynda for all of your help to so many people. I had such high hopes for this product and hoped to join the many others that Wet ones have helped. Unfortunately I guess I am allergic to the ingredients, because my eyelids got even sorer and redder and I had to stop using them. I have gone back to warm to hot soaks in the morning and then I use Sterilid foam on my eyes which has tea tree oil in it. I also use Alrex prescription eye drops about every 4 or 5 days. I want to buy some of the Manuka honey and try that. I also have tea tree soap that I bought from Eyelove website and I wash my eyes with that once or twice a day.

I wish I could just use the Wet ones, but I will report back after I purchase and try the honey. Thanks again.
