WET ONES WET WIPE WASH FOR BLEPH

WET WIPE WASH

I am amazed that in this current world of technological and medical excellence, when we can send mankind to different planets, build robotic beings, conceive babies in test tubes and rebuild body parts, we cannot resolve such a simple issue as my 6 years old chronic dry eye /bleph condition.  More amazing that it takes a cheap soggy well known wipe to actually do the job.  Who needs progress!

Longer story shorter - I am under Specialist/Eye Hospital eventually diagnosed Chronic Dry Eye/Bleph/floppy eyelid sydrome/over production of tears (quantity not quality), being told it would be life long issue and nothing could be done apart from heat pads/baby shampoo eye wash as a vigorous health routine!.  I have constant soreness, pain, redeye, red skin, swollen lids, watering, loss of eyelashes with misdirectional growth and I have spent a fortune purchasing almost all lotions and potions from chemists and online in an attempt to try to help with the discomfort. I have had to do my own lengthy research on the internet to resolve this, as doctors have done nothing to help (shame on them). They presbribed the usual over the counter cheap comfort drops.

So it was with great interest and surprise that I read about Wet Ones wipes.  This is end of week one and I have followed the "Wet Wipe Wash" and am happy and amazed to say that there is an improvement.  This is the first week in 5 years that I have had a very low level of pain and less watering, and I would say that for a while during the day I did not have to focus on it, which in itself is rare, as this has been a constant unwanted companion.  I usually daily use eye drops about every 15 minutes to try for relief, and bottles that should last 2 months are gone in days, but I have used them sparingly since starting this routine.  I also do one wash a day with a mix pea sized spot of baby shampoo/200mls approx water and 1 drop of pure tea tree oil, wipe it along eyelashes with cotton tip.

I am now hopeful for the future, even though I have a long way to go, that I can get on top of it and stop the pain and hopefully my eyelashes will grow back.  All in all a big heartfelt thank you to everybody who has written their story, which is helping all of us to acquire healthy, pain free eyes once again.  Never thought it would happen.   I will follow up on my journey......

I’m in my mid 30’s and have suffered from Bleph since my early teens. As I’m sure everyone on the thread can relate, it can be embarrassing when people think your red-filmed eyes are a result of being sad, drunk, or high. I was very pleased to find the bleh related threads on this site, and am hoping to try the Wet Ones method, as the various ointments and processes prescribed by physicians in the past have done nothing more that clear things up for a few hours.

Before attempting this method I was hoping to get clarification on one thing:

It seems as though the wipes with Benzethonium Chloride are harder to find now (Feb 2018) at least in the US. I have found a few, but they appear to have alcohol in them. Will alcohol cause any issues when applied to the eyelid?

Thank you all so much. If I could do something to stop the itching, burning and watering I would be so relieved.

      Dear way,

The Wet Ones I used to kill the blepharitis do have alcohol in them. It is the .3% Benzethonium Chloride that kill the Staph. Some of the red Wet Ones have changed but the ones I used have the last ingredient Barbadensis leaf juice. The yellow Wet Ones also end in this ingredient and I used those on my eyes to make sure they were the same. I did not rinse it off to make sure it was O K.

These are to be used on the eyelash area. You can close your eyes after doing the bottom lashes and do the top.

I had the terrible itching problem. i tried everything that the Dr said to try. I used antibiotics 3 times in the eye.

Online eye doctors mentioned using the antibiotics on the eyelash area and called it "off label use".  I asked the doctor about why in the eye and he said that some got on the lashes.

I was desperate so when someone killed it with the Benzethonium Chloride I looked for what had that in it and ended up with the Wet Ones.

Just make sure you are not allergic to detergents or fabric softeners and other things like the lanolin that is in the wipes too.

The itching was so much better just after a week that I cut down from 4 times a day to 3 then to 2 times a day for a couple of months more. I had to go back a few days after quitting 2 different times to kill the remaining itching but that was the end. I did not miss a day.

      Hope this helps,

Hi there Lynda, I have a lot of what you have posted here as I am newly diagnosed with blepharitis although I have had it for several years but miss diagnosed. I am a lash tech and so i thought I was familiar with blepharitis and the symptoms. Turns out I wasn't. My own experience is that my sclera is very red and sore as if there is a foreign body in there constantly, occasionally they are itchy and my vision becomes very blurry every day. I have lubricating eye drops from my opthalmologist and wash my eyes like they recommend and use the warm cloth technique. I to was told it was incurable and that it is an allergic reaction to the toxins in my own eye, which would make sense for it not to be curable. However I am determined to beat it as I would love to wear makeup on my wedding day and so I will try the wipes you have recommended although I'm not sure which pack it is, please advise. I found two red packs, one is a red tub and one is more pinky and is a packet that says "be cute, delicate" on the front?

      Many thanks

      Dear Emma,

You have to make sure you are not allergic first. Do you have to be careful with detergents or fabric softeners? Lanolin is in them too. Read the ingredients first.

The ones I used are in a Red Box. The Yellow Box now has the same ingredients. Some of the red ones have changed. The last ingredient that is listed on both is  Barbadensis leaf juice.

I did use the yellow on my eyelashes to make sure before I posted the information.

The box has 24 individual wipes in them. If you are in the UK you will have to order from the internet.

The UK has wipes with Benzalkonium Chloride in them and many have said they were harsh on their eyes.

Neither one you mentioned are what I used.

If you cannot use them there is information I can give you from others you found other items with Benzethonium Chloride in them.

Remember to use throw away makeup applicators each time and buy new makeup. Never double dip into the mascara. I used mascara and was able to kill it too. Let me know if you need more info on that if yo are able to use the wipes.

My daughter used the wipes to kill a sty on her eye. It took a little over 2 days but she kept it up for 4 days she said.

I found it to be a Staph infection in my lashes. Probably, from using mascara too long and having dry eyes.

Symptoms go away pretty quickly but it takes over 3 months to kill it. The last couple of months are only 2 times a day so not a bother. Some quit early and then it comes back. Even once a day is not enough to kill it. It will help with the symptoms though.

      When ordering read the ingredients.

      Wish you success,

      Lynda79

      Dear lynda,

Thank you very much, I have been on Amazon before I got chance to read your reply and luckily ordered the ones in the red box, in the ratings a lot of people commented that they used them for blepharitis and so I assumed they were the right ones.

Do I still need to warm and wash my eyes first before I use the wipes? And how many times a day do I start using them please is it three?

Thank you so much for all your help I really hope these wipes work for me and I appreciate all your help even after your blepharitis has cleared.

      Dear Emma,

I did not wash my eyes at the time of using the wipes. I had a terrible itching and so I started by doing it for 4 times for the first week then went down to 3 times for a while but the last few months it was only 2 times a day. That was a breeze to do.

Some have mentioned that they used them 2 times a day and had results too. People do work.

Remember, to do mascara, use throw away wands and makeup applicators. Buy new makeup and never double dip. I took my mascara off as soon as I came home. I buy a new one each month and still do not double dip in the mascara. I use one wand for both eyes now as the Bleph is gone.

The wipes take about 10 minutes to work on the Staph. After that time, you can wash your eyes off if you like. I did not wash it off but had no problems either.

If you can't use them there are other products that have been mentioned on this site that have Benzethonium Chloride in them. Let me know how things go and if you need that info.

Close your eyes and do your top lashes. People have mentioned it being hard to do the top ones and I finally realized what they meant. They probably were having their eyes open and trying to do them.

I wouldn't do warm on your eyes before the wipes.  You can wash them later and use 2 wash cloths, one for each eye. A Dr. mentioned that, online, too.

      Hope this helps,

Thank you Lynda. I bought some Wet Ones, and have been using them. I gotta say that so far, my eyes feel fantastic. My method prior was always to do a hot compress in the morning, which loosened things up, and would feel great, but after a few hours my eyes would feel like they had lashes stuck in them again. Now my eyes have been feeling nice and clean throughout the day. I really hope these wipes kill the staph/or whatever it is, but even if it doesn’t, just knowing that my eyes can feel this good is such a relief!

      Dear way,

This took over 3 months to kill. I did not miss a day. The last couple of months are just 2 times a day so pretty easy to do.

Some people feel better and quit after a few weeks and go back but you want to kill it and not use the wipes as a daily thing. My husband had the little white bumps on his bottom eyelid and thought it was allergies. Dr said he had Blepharitis so he used the wipes and killed it too. He did not miss a day for over 3 months to do it.

      Hope this helps,

      Dear Lynda,

Thank you very much for all of your help I will report back to you in a few days to let you know how I find the wipes. The red bucket wipes have not turned up yet and so I am using the wet ones "sensitive" which ironically says not to use on the eyes, but desperate times and all that. I have bought a new mascara not that that I use make up very often due to the Blepharitis so here's to hoping next time I write to you, I'm seeing results and am finally wearing my beloved makeup again. And yes i will also use two disposable wands to do each eye with.

      Thanks again Lynda, speak soon

      Dear Lynda,

I forgot to ask you, do you think it's okay to put the cut up wipe (clean and unused) back into the packet? I'm sure I read on here somewhere that a few people put the cut up wipes into food bags ready for next use but with it being anti bacterial I assumed it would be hygienically okay to put the cut up pieces back into the wipes packet for the next use?

      Many thanks

I cut the wipes into 8 pieces, and store in a tiny screw-top jar. They stay fresh and moist.

      Dear Emma,

I think Darlene's idea is good just to be safe. I used the individual packet of the wipes so used 1 each time and did both eyes twice. I had the terrible itching so it was driving me crazy.

Better to be safe so store separately.

      Thank you Lynda,

So just the 1 wipe on both eyes, not 2 wipes? I have put the wipes on Tupperware just to be safe.

      Dear Emma,

I used 1 wipe but tore it into 8 sections and did all 4 eyelash areas twice using a clean one each time.

That is how I started out. As my eyes got better I went down in how many times a day I did it. The last 2 months were just 2 times a day and that was quite easy to do.

      Hope this helps,

      Dear Lynda,

I see I have been doing it wrong with the wet wipes. I tore it into 8 pieces and put them into a little glass jar, but then I was using one wrapped around my finger on all of my lashes, and that was it! I had seven left for other days. My eyes were sore and swollen and I gave up on Wet ones. Well now I will try again. Thank for your patience Lynda.

      Dear ruth anne,

You shouldn't be worse after using so you might be allergic to them. Have you got sensitive skin? Do detergents or fabric softeners bother you?

Is the last ingredient Barbadensis Leaf Juice on the back of the package?

You can try Tea Tree Oil too but it does have to be diluted. 10 drops of Tea Tree Oil to 90  drops of extra virgin olive oil for the once daily use and 50/50 for the once a week use. You may be able to use the weaker one 2 times a day and see if that helps to kill the Staph for a few days to get it under control. This ratio was posted by someone who had Demodex. It was from the Dr.

i wouldn't try anything until your eyes settle down to the normal look and feel of your Blepharitis.

Sorry this didn't work for you,

      Thank you again Lynda.

Yes, I do have extremely sensitive skin. I guess I am allergic to the Wet ones. Very disappointing!! Today I am going to buy Manuka honey and try that, as I see that it has helped some others to get rid of blepharitus. I will be updating with results.

Ruthann, I used the wipes but became allergic. The Manuka Honey has been very effective. We all need to try different things to see which is most effective for us. For me, the Manuka Honey had been a god-send. 😊

Thank you so much Dena for the encouragement! I just bought some today and will start routine tomorrow. I read somewhere that someone diluted the honey with purified water. Could you please tell me how you applied the honey? Thank you.
    • Posted

Yes Ruthanne, the honey is to thick to apply it as it is, I take a clean teaspoon and dip a small amount of the honey in a clean cup, and then add a small amount of purified, boiled, or bottled water to the honey. Make sure the water is room temperature if you boiled it. Mix an put in a small clean glass jar with a lid. Use a q-tip soaked well with the honey, wipe all around the inside of your eye. It will burn, but not too much. The honey will not hurt your eye. Do this at least 3 times a day. Keep your honey sterile, never dip a used q-tip in it. After a week throw out the old honey, and mix some more. Make it THICK when you mix it. In the morning and at night I first wash my eyes with a little no tears baby shampoo, and a drop of tea tree oil, then rinse them under the facut. Before I rinse I close my eyes and rub in all over and around my eyes. I then use a mild lotion all over my face. Of course I apply the honey on my eyes after I wash my eyes. The tea tree oil and baby shampoo also is used to remove any eye pencil from my eyes. I only use eye pencil. I hope this helps. Ask me any questions. Other kind people have helped me like Lynda79 and Dawn. 🤗

Thank you very much Dena. I bought the honey, and will start today. I am also thankful to Lynda79 and Dawn and the help they have brought to many people.

I have been soaking my eyes every morning with a hot washcloth for 10 to 20 min. and then applying Sterilid foam to my eyelids for 1 minute, which has tea tree oil in it. Then wash off. I don't wear any eye make up anymore because of all of the problems. Then during the day I use Optive individual eye drops without preservatives for dry eyes. Do you ever have to do eye soaks after using this honey?

      thanks

Hi again, I emailed earlier, but it says it is still being moderated.

Anyway, I just did the honey exactly as you said to do. I boiled the water and let it cool and mixed the honey with just a little water. I should tell you first that I am extremely allergic to many things, and friends jokingly call me a "fragile little flower." This is funnier because I am 5' 10". Anyway 2 weeks ago I tried the Wet ones in the red box for almost 1 week and my eye lids got swollen and so sore, I could not do it anymore.

Well, I just did the manuka doctor 20 honey for the first time and waited for the sting. First I thought I did it wrong because I didn't feel anything. What do you do just sit down for 10 or 15 min. till you can wash your eyes, because I couldn't see anything? Anyway I had the honey on my eyelashes and what ever made it into my eyes, when my eyes felt like they were on FIRE!!!!! I had to wash it off. Now I don't know what to do????

    • Posted

Your eyes will be fine! Don't wash it off. Just dilute it like you did, do all around your eye lids on the inside. The burning will not hurt your eyes. Make sure yo keep everything sterile.

    • Posted

When your eyes tear up initially, just dab them with a tissue, the burning will go away.
    • Posted

Thank you Dena. Not sure what to do as just doing it once, my eyelids got all swollen and red all last night??
    • Posted

I wash my eyes with one drop of tea tree oil and a spot of no tears baby shampoo morn and night, rinse my eyes under faucet. Then do the honey. The honey will not hurt your eyes. Look it up on a search engine.

Hi again Dena. I am back. I started over with manuka honey and not going to give up this time. I feel the burn each time, but almost am welcoming the burn, because I assume it is working and bringing me closer each application to being free of blepharitus!!! Wow! I can't wait to go to my eye dr. next after the honey has brought about a healing for me as it has done for you and many others. Thank you again for your help.
