WET WIPE WASH

I am amazed that in this current world of technological and medical excellence, when we can send mankind to different planets, build robotic beings, conceive babies in test tubes and rebuild body parts, we cannot resolve such a simple issue as my 6 years old chronic dry eye /bleph condition.  More amazing that it takes a cheap soggy well known wipe to actually do the job.  Who needs progress!

Longer story shorter - I am under Specialist/Eye Hospital eventually diagnosed Chronic Dry Eye/Bleph/floppy eyelid sydrome/over production of tears (quantity not quality), being told it would be life long issue and nothing could be done apart from heat pads/baby shampoo eye wash as a vigorous health routine!.  I have constant soreness, pain, redeye, red skin, swollen lids, watering, loss of eyelashes with misdirectional growth and I have spent a fortune purchasing almost all lotions and potions from chemists and online in an attempt to try to help with the discomfort. I have had to do my own lengthy research on the internet to resolve this, as doctors have done nothing to help (shame on them). They presbribed the usual over the counter cheap comfort drops.

So it was with great interest and surprise that I read about Wet Ones wipes.  This is end of week one and I have followed the "Wet Wipe Wash" and am happy and amazed to say that there is an improvement.  This is the first week in 5 years that I have had a very low level of pain and less watering, and I would say that for a while during the day I did not have to focus on it, which in itself is rare, as this has been a constant unwanted companion.  I usually daily use eye drops about every 15 minutes to try for relief, and bottles that should last 2 months are gone in days, but I have used them sparingly since starting this routine.  I also do one wash a day with a mix pea sized spot of baby shampoo/200mls approx water and 1 drop of pure tea tree oil, wipe it along eyelashes with cotton tip.

I am now hopeful for the future, even though I have a long way to go, that I can get on top of it and stop the pain and hopefully my eyelashes will grow back.  All in all a big heartfelt thank you to everybody who has written their story, which is helping all of us to acquire healthy, pain free eyes once again.  Never thought it would happen.   I will follow up on my journey......

It is now three months since my quest for healthy eyes began, after following what seems now to be, the sacred WetWashWipe programme and can confirm positive results overall.   The level of discomfort I now suffer daily has reduced tenfold and whilst I think I will always be left with some pain from my Chronic Dry Eye Syndrome, if this is as good as it gets, then that is okay, compared to how I suffered previously.

I have used the Wet Wipes daily, earlier on 2-3 times a day, but now I am more relaxed about it, although I do use at least once a day.  I also do the eye wipe with my tee tree/shampoo mix most days, but I do admit that I often forget. When that happens I make sure to get back to it.  I will never stop this routine now, even though it is done at any time I feel like it or remember, as I believe it will help retain the results.  I hope never to return to those bleak days when my total focus was on my eyes and how to get pain relief.  I still use eye drops daily (that seems never to change) but now a large bottle lasts weeks instead of days and I feel the dry eye symptoms have changed somewhat, though difficult to explain.  Before they burned severely, ached, hurt and watered constantly. Now whilst there is a sensation of low level burn, it seems more like an irritation and sensation of soreness.  The pinkness has improved and my friends do tell me that now they see my open eyes, which previously had disappeared into small slits somewhere in my face.  I occasionally wear eye makeup but now would never, never leave it on overnight.

Like most people I believed I cleansed my face well, and if honest, when the Eye Specialist mentioned eye hygiene, I was a bit miffed, as it made me feel dirty and they were quetsioning my cleanliness, but now realise that even though we wash/cleanse or do whatever our chosen facial preference is, we should all pay more attention to our lashline.  I have friends who are starting to complain about eye problems and I have tried to educate them to be more focused on their eye hygiene and hopefully avoid my previous long term problems, but I think they feel as I did about me questioning their level of clean and that I am talking rubbish - oh well, time will tell a different story...

As for Benzalkonium Chloride, I have read many items on this chemical; lots quite frightening and stating it is bad for the eyes, which seems a strange comment as it is widely used medically for opthalmic purposes and if so awful, why are governments not banning it from eye products?   From my point of view, that is a load of *******!  This ingredient in the wipes and drops has been amazing and the only thing that worked for me and many others.  Out of interest, I have found it in Optrex Refreshing Eye Drops "For Tired Eyes", one of the few drops which contains it and is readily available from Chemists and Stores in UK.  I use this a few times a week (previously used it constantly) and I believe this has made a big difference, comfortwise.  It has to be the one for TIRED eyes though - Tired is highlighted in green on the box.

I will close now, as I am writing as I talk - constantly!!!  I know people have stated that it was over three months before they were clear, so I will follow up again in the hope of total "halliluyah symptom free" time, but as said at the beginning of this narrative, now I can cope with the degree of distress I am left with and want to thank all you people for your stories and comments which have greatly helped me.  Had you not commented then I would be totally unaware that there was any hope for me.  Wishing you all good health and happiness.    Col

If you find you need to experiment with something else, try Manuka Honey. It has alleviated ALL my symptoms. I had had Blepharitis for years. I guess there is a different answer for everyone, and thank goodness for self-sacrificing individuals like Lynda79.😀

    Doctor Doctor

I think all the doctors (in UK at least) have attended the same Bleph Dry Eye Smposium and been indoctrinated with the same "Lid Hygiene" incantation. They offer nothing more. It seems we have all had the same problems with no real hard core advice to any of us, and have found this Forum to be the greatest help out there.

My Eye Specialist and GP alike offered me various mediocre bog standard eye drops, offering no comfort at all.  I was told by supposed Specialists that there is nothing out there for me.  So, to Google I went and found a wealth of eye drops, lotions and potions available.  I have worked my way through almost all of them with differing effects and prices.   I have paid highly in an attempt to get some relief and I think the doctors only prescribe the rubbish cheap drops to save on money.  I would not have minded if they had at least told me that there is stuff out there, but that I would have to pay, as too expensive for prescription - I would, like many have gladly offered up my purse, credit card even at some points a kidney.   Years ago I cound have offered up my body but no such luck now!

So if there are any GPs researching this site or have fallen on it by accident, please offer us far more information  and help than we are currently getting. We are really suffering.

We help each other. Wet Wipes have been a blessing for me, too.

Try Manuka Honey, I have tried the wipes, tea tree oil and baby shampoo, ( which was very helpful), but Manuka Honey surpassed them all. I dilute the higher number with purified water, and apply with a q-tip all around the eye. Aren't w so glad that we are finally finding an answer to this awful condition? 🤗

So glad to hear your news.  I also suffered for years and went to multiple doctors and eye institutes..had my tear ducts stretched (quite painful), tissue surgically removed from tear ducts, prednisone and antibiotic drops, hot compresses, baby shampoo, etc.  Found this forum and BINGO...the Wipes were the answer!!.  My eyes are dramatically better and have been for the past 4 years.  Glad you found relief, too.  My Optometrist has actually used the wipes since he saw my improvement and is impressed. Congratulations on finding this site!

I wish it would work for everyone. Still, as much as it helps, I still have episodes from time to time. My eyelashes will mysteriously disappear and eyelids swell for no reason that I can discern. I increase the number of times per day I use Wet Ones and it resolves quickly. But what an exasperating condition! Nothing I do makes it disappear forever. Thank goodness for this forum where we can share experiences and advice!!!!

I’ve been using Wet Ones for exactly two weeks and they have been of great relief.   The first day I used the Wet Ones, I used they 4 x a day. My eyeslids swelled up and became extremely itchy.  I had to use a steroid to relieve the swelling the itching for three days.  They second day I had to bring in down to using the wipes only once.  By the third day I went back to 3 x a day and my eyelids adjusted after the swelling came down.  What I wanted to say is you mentioned that sometimes your eyelids swell up and your eyelashes mysteriously disappear. We know that Bleph is caused by staph, but I never heard in these chats is that mites carry this bacteria.

Therefore an infestation will give blepharitis so if your eyes swell up, you might have some mites creeping up on your eyes.

My eye doctor did mention those pesky mites, but offered no solution to keep them at bay. I think the Wet Ones wipes remove them if only temporarily. I have been using the wipes for 3 years now. Once daily, at night, unless my blepharitis is flaring up. Then I use the wipes 3x a day until the problem recedes. Good luck. It sure is a stubborn thing.

You got that right about Wet Ones it wiped out and I don't mean wiped out in one wipe 12 years of misery. I don't know how I did it but I'm glad it did it. I've been using them everyday since then and I had no problem with my eyes. Thank you the people of the UK
