Hi all, i started orlistat on tuesday, I have been eating a low calorie diet 1460c a day. Is that what I am meant to be doing? I have had the 'side effects' although following low calorie diet. Any help would be appreciated.... many thanks

It's not so much the calories you should be checking but the fat content of the food that you eat. Low fat will help reduce the side effects, try not to have more than 5-7g of fat per meal.

Adam, my Doctor has told me, you can have up to 15 gms of fat  per meal  ie breakfast, lunch and dinner.

I was told by my GP to stick to around 15-20g per day. Who knows but it seems to be working for me, I'd rather be cautious than run the risk of the dreaded side effects lol

On my 3rd day, have been very careful with fat intake, and so far no side effects. So lots of water, no coffee, we'll one maybe. Fruit ok, veg ok, meat ok, not fatty though. I'm about to have full English breakfast, no butter or fatty bacon, but everything else so well see. Defoe fat avoidance rather than calorie counting. If my month on this is as good as these 3 days and I do lose weight I will be so happy. Water seems key. Hope things calm down for you.

It' not about low calorie it's about low fat i hve never counted the calories i jut mainly count the fat and i have lost stones. If you post what you have been eating that might help. I have poted lots of helpful posts on these tablets on the boards. Also you CAN drink coffee. Good Luck x

Hi the smoked salmon wouldn't fit into the 5g rule apart from that your meals are fine. The tablets don't understand the salmon a a good fat so hence the reason why you would be having the side effects also with the light phildelphia is that under 5g per 100g? my guess would be the salmon would the cause of any side effects. I have heard that wild salmon is ok though! have you got much to lose? Good Luck with the rest of your journey and let us know how you get on x

Hi Britney,  my Dr told me you can have no more than 15 gms of fat in each of your three meals a day. This makes it 45 gms of fat a day, some people on this site are saying it is less than this. I know at breakfast I don't use many gms as I usually have Sultana bran. Is 15 gms per mail correct?

      thanks Hannah

Hi Hannah no it's 45g a day it even states that on the leaflet inside the box maybe if some patients are heavier they are told to eat less? i don't eat the full 45g a day but definitely that i what i was told and what is written on the box.

I have shreddies or more recently porridge i find both tend to fill me up along with water in the morning. Oh yes sorry 15g per meal so to confirm that is 45g a day

Hi Orlistatnew Sainsburys do a cheese like that which is 4g per 100g. The xenical may not like the oil in it have you tried cutting the salmon/cheese out for 72 hours to see if that makes a difference. I snack on fruit too, I always get weighed monthly. I believe the food has to be per the 100g is the salmon less than 5g per 100g of product? because if it's not and your still only having one slice it could still give you the side effects same with the cheese as it's weighed at per 30g not 100g. 3 stone will be gone before you know it - let us know how you get on at your weigh in x

Hi Britney, thanks for your reply. I try and keep the gms of fat as low as I can, but I needed to confirm the 15 gms per meal was correct.

      Thanks again Hannah

Hi Britney, I got the Quorn sausages today, the ones in the box (well sort of a box). I had one tonight for my dinner, they are nice and one is so filling. I am going to have one on toast tomorrow for lunch.
