What can I do to get a doc to give me endoscopies/biopsies?

Recently I've encountered a deficiency in B12 and have started taking them to help w my nerve problems. It worked well, but when I got off the supply, I started feeling them again and have now gone back to them. But during this time I started getting shortness of breath, some lightheadedness, just ANAENMIC symptoms. This would happen maybe 2-3 hours each day.

I know there TONS of reasons why I could be deficient but I just really want to get to the bottom of this, and that may involve screening for things I can't screen for, namely inflammatory bowel disease. Do you think any doc would be willing to give me to the full and proper diagnosis for that simply for my deficiency symptoms?

Your B-12 could even be caused by low or lack of intrinsic factor. That's what caused my low B-12 anyway. Must be a hundred reasons though.

Hello there first off go see a GI doc tell him or her your concerns and ask for an endoscopy as for biopsy you need to see your pcp so they can order biopsy. I'm not sure if I should tell you this but I had a biopsy about 2 months ago and honestly it was the most awful pain I have ever felt and I've had child and that was nothing compared to the biopsy. Good luck.

I love your name. Really sweet.

In Australia, where I am, one cannot go to a GI doc just like that.

You need referral, referrals and wait for referrals

and then wait for an appointment.

First of all: you need to convince your GP to issue a referral, even if that GI had to be paid fully privately: they don't see you without a referral.

      I don't get it either....

So I wish Paul to either live somewhere,

where you can just go to a GI (like I could in Europe without referral),

      or

have a GP, who issues a referral without abdominal pain indication and maybe even normal blood results. (?)

Did you Babygirl not get knocked out for the intestinal biopsies procedure during gastro/colonoscopy?

It depends on location of biopsy (a e.g. cervix biopsy was really nothing) if it hurt and if it was 'deeper' if you got knocked out.

Child birth was so painful and long duration and cutting the opening wider with a scissor without any local anaesthesia, I would do a biopsy anytime in exchange no matter which location, but probably making sure to knock me out. ;-), which was not possible during natural child birth.

Don't worry Paul, you should be knocked out for scopes/biopsies

and my 14yr old daughter had 11 oesophagus and stomach biopsies and 2 colon biopsies.

Other than a bit bleeding afterwards, she had no increased pain due to this procedure and was fast asleep during procedure.

Babygirl, what did they do with you during biopsy?

Hi sanya thank you babygirl had been my nickname for as long I can remember. Anyway ok so during colonoscopy and endo yes I was put to sleep but for uterine biopsy no and it was incredibly painful I actually screamed out and literally cried like a little girl and I'm 34 yrs old and I didn't make a sound when I had my daughter the occasional gritting my teeth that's all.

BTW sanya I meant to tell you I'm in Florida. A really long way from Australia and here don't need a referral to see any specialists. Which is awesome.

      That's sweet with the name.

Oh dear, if you ever need a uterine biopsy again, sure ask for knock out.

As to Paul, he can sigh in relief now,

he is not going to have a uterine biopsy anyway, cheesygrin

so he shall be fine too, IF he accepts a knock out during procedure.

(some people say, they rather stay awake during scopes and biopsies, some say, that biopsy of guts doesn't hurt that much either. I have no experience, never had stomach or colon biopsy and surely would not go without knock out)

A hurray to your home country, to mine too,

just Australia...I don't quite understand this policy of being not seen by any specialist without referral especially since often not bulk billed and pay, pay, pay, overpay privately the service additionally, so one thinks twice before going to specialist (private is faster than public/bulk billed) anyway.  ??

      Kind regards, Babygirl.

      Good luck Paul!

I'll let them know when I go back. I live in California so I don't know what my chances will be there. But thank you!
