WHAT CLOTHES TO TAKE IN HOSPITAL

Posted , 14 users are following.

Hi,

You know how vain us females are - what's the best clothes to pack for a replacement hip operation.

Is it nightgown or pj's?

Is it trousers or skirt/dress for daytime?

Trust me, you won't feel vain in the hospital!  You won't even be concerned about how you look.  I wore loose workout pants and a teeshirt (and a size larger high-cut underpants) to the hospital.  (Your thigh will be swollen and the high cut won't be near your incision.)  I changed into a hospital gown for the surgery, but I was dressed again when I woke up!  I had slip-on tennis shoes ... no ties, but no slippers.  I stayed in those clothes all three days in the hospital.  I was in bed the majority of the time, so I wouldn't want to be in a dress or skirt.  Then you'll be walking the halls for PT, and you want something comfortable.  Once I got to the care center for the next two weeks, I had loose pants and teeshirts for the day and loose cotton pjs for night.  I didn't bring a robe ... I didn't go anywhere at night that I needed to cover up.  Only the nurse would come in to help me to the bathroom.  Believe me, modesty went out the window once you walk in the hospital!  You should be in the thigh-high elastic stockings for up to six weeks, so I always wore long pants to hide them.

Dressed again afterwards? Wow interesting. When I had my first THR's I had to go down the hall and sit in a group of hip patients to do exercises and all I had on was two hospital gowns. One front ways and tne other on backwards covering my bum. It felt sooooo awkward! This is why this time I am taking a knee length bathrobe! Plus we are expected to walk the hallways in front of every patient and their visitors.

I presume the nurses work together to get my dressed before I go to recovery.  If I weren't, I'd ask to get dressed before I had to go out of my room.  I had both knees replaced in 2012, and each time I was able to dress before I had to go with the physical therapist for my first PT session.

Having ones hip dislocated, sawn off and then hammered back together is no reason to let things slip. A little black dress and some heels should do it.

      Hi

      I like it Juillete      cheesygrin

Saying that.....a couple of days before going in i had my eyebrows done

Then the day before I had my hair, cut, coloured and blow dried.wink

      My husband couldnt understand itbiggrin

Have you not got more important things to think about?  NOwink

I put some make up on, each morning,  Not much. I had a cream to powder foundation that was easy to put on. A blusher {Cream Stick} and lipstick.

I can always remember my mother in law....if she was ever ill......she always had make up on.

I was much younger then and said something to her one time and she said....."there's no point in looking like death warmed up even if you feel like it"   LOL

      She had the right attitude

      HI

Sounds good but does that mean you cant change colours or textures?

I find I need a different texture of make up in the winter compared to the summer. Also different shade.

Colors or textures?  For eyeliner?  Mine's black, and my eyebrows are black because my eyebrows were thinning.  I never put on different color eyeliner anyhow, so black was fine with me.  But you could put a different color over the black if you wanted to change colors.  I stil put in eyeshadow once in awhile.  I just had the eyeliner and eyebrows filled in.  I'm thinking of having my lips colored with a light, basic color, which would also be cool.

Great post juliette! Love it! Only I am afraid to wear the heels anymore! I always take my special face cleanser and moisturizer to the hospital because that lift me up.

I did my lips permanently but have been unable to do the brows and eyeliner yet. Agree it is VERY VERY worth the investment!
