What is going on!

I use to have migraines from 1st grade till my freshmen year of highschool. They would be so bad I'd throw up, be dizzy, and sometimes loose vision. I think they were from school food and doing p.e. in the sun. After I got kicked out of the school for bad migraines they all stopped. I have been migraine free for six years. But in Oct 2016 I got sick with what my doctor thinks is fibromyalgia. I'm not sure, certain things match though. However for the past 3 weeks I have been getting headaches from hell that last all day and cause nausea. They also cause me to be light headed and have weird brain wave sensation and feel like I'm going to pass out. When I walk I feel this especially. But honestly to me its different from migraines. I dont really know what to do other than get an MRI ? What should I ask for? Sorry I also didnt really know where to put this post.. Any advice is appreciated! Thanks

    Hi,

well certainly I would suggest you get an MRI for starters.

All migraines and headaches are aggrevated by stress, even though it might not be the actual cause.

Which is why in high school you had things so severe, because you was stressed with study.

Try Sumatriptan to deal with the pain, see how that goes.

But it sounds like you need a Nurologist, to get to the bottom of your issues.

    Good luck and take care.

Let us know how you get on,

    Best wishes

I agree I am going to get an MRI just to make sure, but I am medicine sensitive so for pain I'm just out of luck!

      Thank you I will!

I do really feel for you.  I was diagnosed with Chronic Migraine with Aura in January 2016 and later Fibromyalgia.  My longest Migraine attack was 3 months and in that time I suffered with dizziness, nausea, vertigo and brain zaps (almost like my head was being shaken from the inside).  I had a CT Scan and subsequent MRI and glad to say that both were clear.  I have seen two neurologists and both have concluded the same. Stress is a major issue for me and I have found meditations to be very helpful in controlling the severity of  the pain (you can find some great meditations on youtube).  In terms of what works for me.   I take Propranolol (3 x 40g a day) as soon as an attack is coming on and it really helps the symptoms subside.  Please try not to take too many pain killers as this can cause rebound headaches!  If I feel an attack coming on 2 x Ibuprofen with 2 x Paracetamol (just one dose together) normally kicks it in to touch.    I have changed my diet and now take supplements including Vitamin D3, Magnesium, Complex B and a probiotic and my migraines have reduced in numbers as a result.  It is trial and error and each one of us are different but lifestyle changes and reducing stress is recommended.  The neurologist will suggest you keep a headache diary to look for triggers stress and weather conditions are definitely my top two!  Good luck and hope you feel better soon.

hi, is it just the migraine and dizzyness or do you have other health concerns going on at the same time?

I have all over joint pain and muscle pain that comes in flares, fluctuating blood pressure lately its been low, I can't exercise or tolerate heat, I lost 25 pounds and can't gain it back. I got sudden eye floaters in Jan, which I've had looked at. Fatigue, muscle weakness, and nausea. A weird hand foot symetric swell itch pain( I went to the er put it healed right before I arrived). I have been going through weird stuff like this since Oct! New things are always finding me..

You really need to see a Neurologist I suggest, these are weird symptoms like you say.

I think you need some bloodtests to see if you are deficient in any nutrient at all.  Low magnesium for instance can cause weird symptoms.  Get a full blood count, liver and kidney function.

      Hope this helps.

      Best wishes

I have had all function test come back good as well as adreanal. Only thing I'm deficient in was iron. I have an excess of b6 though and my doctor said that was ok.

ok that sounds like classic auto immune disease symptoms to me. I have an auto immune disorder and that's pretty much my life you just described. Not any more I have to say...was diagnosed about 13 years ago. Good treatment and I feel much better. I think you should have that ruled out. Which is difficult but you should see a rheumatologist maybe for starters. Where are you based? Are you in the States or UK?

States, I have an ESR test I have to take but I'm not in a flare right now just the headaches, after that if it comes back high maybe they will let me I hope! I agree about the auto immune disease especially because I got sick after a untreated stomach viral or bacterial attack that I was nauseated and vomiting for two months!

hi, yes the stomach issue could actually have been part of it. But were you checked also for h pylori when you had the stomach problem?

I have to warn you a neurologist wasn't able to diagnose me and I spent an awful long time going to the wrong sort of docs and not finding out what was wrong. I don't have a neurological problem. I have an auto immune auto inflammatory condition which is why no one could diagnose it. I finally got a diagnosis after seeing a rheumatologist for joint pain. My scans were always clear of everything. Nothing at all to show. Only things that were ever out of whack in bloods were raised esr and crp. Other auto immune markers like ana were clear. Very difficult to pin down.

I am also assuming you have done all the regular blood tests?? Have you checked b12 thyroid function and all the usual stuff?

Yes I've done it all and multiple times I even did all these autoimmune test but they came back normal because I wasn't flaring or in pain at all. I asked my doctor to re run it when I flare which for some reason is towards the end-beginning of the month so soon. Then there are random days as well. If ESR and cp4 come back high I will suggest I see a rheumatologist again!

Well this is one of the difficulties. I have just been to see my specialist and he has sorted new treatment for me. After a year or more of remission I am having issues with inflammation in various areas....feet sinuses and stomach at the moment. He did blood tests but he said he won't be 'bound' by them because he understands that the bloods are sometimes normal when in fact there is active disease going on. This is what a lot of doctors either don't understand or are happy to ignore. I would suggest you get a referral to a rheumatologist anyway. You should have one just to look at the issue of the joint pain. They should take it from there in terms of diagnosing what is going on. Not your family doc as they often won't have a clue how to diagnose these sort of disorders.

Okay thank you for all your help I will be talking to my primary doctor about a rheumatologist again. I hope you get back to remission soon. Take care
