What is this RATCHETING SOUND and feeling in my hip?

Posted , 5 users are following.

After an easy relaxed weekend I awoke and walked my dog like every morning and took my daughter to school.  My hip feels different, with a weird vibrating, like a guitar being strummed when I move my leg in any direction and it's coming from my hip.  I can hear it outside as well.  That's just freakin great.  I'm 4 weeks out of revision and have been coming along just fine.  OMG what now?!

    Hi Jill

Is your replacement ceramic?  I've heard that this can be a problem, causing 'squeaking'. My surgeon doesn't use them because of that.

...try not to panic.  Good luck and please let us know what happens?

O great shame. I was desolee to read this esp after I pondered your previous information last night.

Now, you had a too large ball replaced with smaller size AFTER all muscles tissues etc had been OVER stretched.  Now those tissues are SLACK and sagging. It seems reasonable to assume that therefore the supporting area will be loose for a while. This happens for example when you tear a ligament if tendon in a finger, say. It's sewn up and you don't start to exercise it til it's knitted, and then, ONLY with a supporting brace. Have you done too much too soon and tissues so slack they're not supporting.  What you need us a SCAN. I would have thought a support brace of some sort shd have been fitted. You don't need a phd inengineering. Ask for an explanation as to what the possible complications could be. Maybe some sutures have broken open and things have loosened. Get a scan. That's what I would do. And possibly see an Osteo. Get a copy if yr latest X-ray. Just get an EXPLANATION. They run and hide but you need information.  If it's only a sound then you don't have n emergency. If it's collapsing or buckling then you do.   Keep calm, go about yr information seeking composed and in control and let us know....

Ugg!  I did call and spoke to my Surgeon.  He said that's very strange.  Since I'm not in pain he's asked me ice it and keep the pace to se if it stops on its own.  If not then def have to go back in for xrays.

You're right I'm sure on the lack of strength and posibly loose ligaments.

It is such a weird sensation.  I will icertainly and go about my business to se what happens.

I will be calm it's just not what I wanted of course,  not another set back of any kind.

I feel better today and not hearing any squeeking.  Weird, only felt the sensation of a metal sprinkler in the morning.

Will continue my ice regiment and then get on the stationary bike and take it slow n steady.

Ok.      So maybe you just gotta stop all exertion and WAIT. For things to re-knit. It happens - and I speak from experience. You're still only 4 wks. I was prostrate at that time, and for another 5 months. Believe me, it is possible to get supple again even when you're not doing so well at say,  twelve weeks, so do the resting, being. As well as the doing. Sometimes you've got to go back in order to move forward.   You'll be ok I am certain of that

Thanks for that because I was thinking maybe I need to push forward since I have been taking it very easy and did absolutely nothing to provoke this.   Hopefully it's just part of the healing for me after revision.  It is still squeezing and really sounds like plastic, so in my replacement.  Needs lube.  And still that weird rubbing sensation but that's when sitting and moving leg side to side.  Will ice maybe it's just swelling causing all this, but unprovoked is weird.

Thank you very much Gentilleschi for keeping me grounded through these hip things, you are very kind to take the time.

Oh my julli I sure hope not. I'd it painful when u feel it? Have you call ur OS?

      It's not painful just worrisome.

I did call my surgeon and was told to ice it.  He said "that is so strange" , but since there isn't any accompanying pain to just go ahead as if normal.  If it keeps going on will go in for an xray.

      Such a strange feeling.

It may be scar tissue, especially after going thru this twice I imagine it's a little crowded and angry.
