I had my back surgery and am pain free from that but I have nothing for the hip pain so was wondering do they give you something after the surgery?

I went to physical therapy a week after my hip surgery. And it helps a lot I'm still in pain and I do my exercises at home. Did the hospital send you home with exercises to do. I can't believe your docter didn't tell you to go to physical therapy.

My dr from my back surgery gave me enough meds for 3 weeks but I have hip pain. My back and leg pain are gone.

I had my hip replacemnt 7 months ago.  I'm appalled that you were not given medication to take home with you. If mI were you I would get in touch with my GP.  Are you having phisiotherapy & have you been visited by the district nurse?

Do I gather that you are post back surgery and pre hip surgery ?

You should have pain relief both pre and post op

So yes there is pain relief after surgery, quite a lot, but if you need it before the op go ask your GP

I asked my gp and he said he is not allowed to give pain med's. I might have to change.

I agree. There are some opiod based painkillers that are very restricted but a GP should be able to prescribe something or if neede refer you to a"man who can"

Immediately after surgery your spinal block is left in place and they continue to feed morphine or the like through it, almost no pain as long as you don't move, some discomfort when you move about but much less than the pain I was getting prior to surgery.

Day 2 - they take out the spinal block and replace painkillers with tablets, mine was Endone and or Oxycodine and paracetomol.

From there on took Endone for about 10 days post surgery and was able to stop taking after that, but continued on with paracetomol for about another 2 weeks and was finally able to stop taking even that.

My first surgery is in September but because I had trips pre planned or else I would do it today. I have no one to give me pain relief. Should my hip dr. Be the one I talk too?

I am assuming that you get the hip replacement surgery because you have OA ... unfortunately, at some point, there is no pain relief medication strong enough - the pain is just there - some days better, some days worse -

I have read about morfine patches that members had at the end .. maybe you can discuss this with your GP ... what is the reason that GP won't prescibe pain medication?  are you already taking pain meds?

      maybe for your back?

By all means, talk to your surgeon, but I would like to know why GP will not prescribe pain medication -

where are you going on holiday?

      angel blessings

Hi Eileen I had a THR 5 weeks ago and they gave me loads of painkillers to go home with...Oxycodone 10mg, paracetamol, Ibuprofen, something to help me go to the loo and blood thinners. I took them for about 2 weeks. Blood thinners I took for 28 days.
