Hi,im a 19 years old girl. Everything started two weeks ago(i think), when i cannot sleep because anxiety problems. But it got worse with time. When i lay down, i "wake up" in a panic attack phase.I have really poor dreams,i wake up every hour. I read some time ago about a disease called Fatal Insomnia- where the patient cannot sleep at all,had allucinations, dementia, stupor, coma and finally death. I have all the symptoms. I feel like a zombie,i started having light hallucinations, like visions and earing voices.Nobody believes me.Luckily i have my family with me,so they can take care of me when i will start be in the stupor phase. Now in Italy is 05:22 am, i woke up at four am in a panic state. What you would do if you have sporadic fatal insomnia? I mean, stay with your family, friends, tell people how much you loved them...things like that. Please, don't tell me i don't have it- i won't believe you.I only need to know what you would do if you had this condition, your considerations about this illness, etc.Sorry for my bad english,im italian.
Thanks for reading.

Hey julia, if you have SFI there is nothing you can do. I would like to tell you that I have the same problems you do since August along with other people here WE do not have fatal insomnia. Our bodies are in a constant state of hyper-arousel caused by stress and anxiety. It is tough I know and seems very very bad and it will only get worse if you dont treat your anxiety or find some way to deal with it. I had the exact same thoughts and problems you did message me if you have any other questions.

Well, you obviously don't have it or you wouldn't be able to make posts any more. It's also vanishingly rare, with only about 100 cases being diagnosed worldwide since it was discovered 60-odd years ago.
However, since you say you don't want to hear this, the only comfort I can offer is that you'll soon be dead so won't have to worry about it!
The best thing would be to try and get some help for your anxiety. Health anxiety is a form of OCD (obsessive-compulsive disorder) and one of the hardest forms to treat.

Thank you guys, i wanted to vent my feelings. It helped a little bit. I strongly believe i have it, but i guess only time will tell the truth. Thanks again, you are the only ones with whom I can talk about these things. I'll keep you updated.

Hi
Try meditating once a day and be directed by your higher self.

I feel very sad about your disease. No special treatment is available for Fatal Insomnia but their symptoms can be treated at a certain level, you need a specialist. Find a specialist because only they can examine your situation for further treatment.

Glad to hear it, Julia! However, try not to get anxious if you have a few more sleepless nights following a good night. This is normal.
I went through 40 years of intermittent insomnia (though I didn't attribute it to any terrible diseases) and I know that sleep anxiety is a long-term thing. Every time I had a couple of good nights, I'd then go through weeks of not sleeping properly again. In the end, I just learned to live with it. It's perfectly possible to do this.
It started in my mid-20s, when I was obliged to work an impossible experimental shift system for a year or so (as a nurse) and went on till I retired from paid employment at age 66. Retirement seems to be a cure for insomnia, though I realise that won't help you! For the record, I'm 74 now and still fit and in good health.

You might have low GABA which causes inability to fall (and stay) asleep. Agree that meditation helps as it rebalances all key neurotransmitters. Also agree that worrying about stuff you read on the internet is not good.

Hi JULIA
Go and see your doctor and he will refer you to a specialist for a professional diagnosis. Anxiety can produce all sorts of unpleasant symptoms.
There are new and improved medications these days which are for anxiety but also induce sleep. FIND OUT EXACTLY WHAT YOUR ISSUE IS FIRST. That is identify the problem by seeing an expert then they will advise the best treatment for you. GOOD Luck.

Julia, I would personally find some really good vitamins or supplements to help me sleep better.
I would also like to ask you, before you started experiencing these symptoms, did something happen before that? some sort of experience?

Thank you,good11. Absolutely not,my life is pretty normal...when I was a child i've been abused, but It was a long time ago,I don't think that could be a stress trigger.

do you think there is any possibility that you are still holding on to these memories? Hence your anxiety?
Tell me though have you ever heard of Valerian? And Chamomile?

No,that memories don't disturb me. Yeah, i tried both of them, but without results.

well am glad you are familiar with these. As I mentioned earlier, I also suffered from some problems sleeping though mine was anxiety driven. I took some pills made from natural ingredients like those I mentioned. Am thinking maybe you can have a look, who knows it could help.
