Hello all, I’ve read most responses & feel similarities. I am 44 & one week out from Robotic hysterectomy, rectocele & repair of my perineum. One of my biggest complaints is constantly feeling the need to have a BM even after I’ve had one. I’m assuming it’s just pressure on the healing areas but i sure hope this feeling goes away. I didn’t have any rectocele discomfort before my op but since i was getting a hysterectomy already & my Dr said rectocele repair i just said ok. I didn’t really grasp beforehand the discomfort & healing time i would need. I took 6 weeks off from my job in L&D where i am a CST & work 12 hour shifts. My other main complaint is the discomfort when i urinate, almost like a UTI. I’ve been taking AZO Standard for the weird sensation. I was put on an antibiotic the day after my op so I’m hoping if i have one this will clear it up. I’m hoping i just was not used to having a foley cath & am just still recovering from it. So anyone else have the same feeling of not being empty after a BM at this point in their recovery?

I had the same surgery and yes,I felt that way. Had to take a lot of stool softeners as well as Miralax and ducolax. I also switched to a soft diet. That helped me a lot.. It took a good 3 weeks to feel better. The first two weeks were hell.Get a urine culture to make sure you are on the right antibiotic. Might just be sore from Catheter.Good luck with your recovery. I can't believe I am 6 weeks out already. Be patient!

I am 18 days post op from a midurethral sling and rectocele repair. I was told by my surgeon that I wouldn’t have a lot of pain afterward but I did for about a week. I found that the stool softeners quit working on maybe the 4th day so I would suggest not moving onto laxatives and just drink plenty of water & consume good fibrous foods. Constipation is often an issue for several weeks post op. I got in the shower and massages my stomach to get things moving in week 2 and it actually worked! The medical assistant told me the only thing that can typically make the surgery fail is chronic constipation & if you had another child. Stay off your feet as much as possible. Silly me went outside because I was stir crazy on Day 10 and did some light yard work & I was so swollen for days!!! Use ice packs starting the second week and put pillows under your legs. I leave a frozen eye mask until it gets warm. I wish I was further along so I could tell you more!

Wish you the very best with your recovery. It takes quite awhile to recover from prolapse surgery.

Hi - now at 4 weeks. The discharge is definitely easing and less smelly. I think I just have a very sensitive nose! This discussion forum has been a godsend, so many women sharing their experience has been far more help than the medical profession has been. I think I have been very very lucky as I have had no pain at all since the first couple of days. The problem is still not to overdo it. At 4 weeks I sometimes forget that Ive even had surgery and end up overdoing it - this means a day of doing nothing (today!) The biggest worry is undoing the repair. I overdid it yesterday and today I feel scratchy and bulgy down there - the bulgy feeling worried me a lot as I wondered if I had damaged myself. However, reading other posts I have found that this is quite normal at 4-6 weeks so fingers crossed. (That "bulgy" feeling is internal only - after a careful external exam I found no evidence of bulge!!) Anyway, I have advised my work today that I will not be back for a while - my "i'll be back after 2 weeks" was way way to optimistic!!
Anyway, thanks girls and hope everyone is recovering well.
