I had surgery 8 days ago which included total laparoscopic hysterectomy due to Endometrial Cancer.  I also had prolapse so Oncologist referred me to gyno urologist who did rectocele repair, sacrospinous suspension, midurethral sling and cystoscope immediately following hysterectomy.    I was very apprehensive getting both done at the same time but figured since oncologist suggested it I would follow his suggestion. All the cancer was removed and pathology report came back with no cancer spreading in nodes- great news!   I stayed in hospital overnight and since coming home have been following Drs orders completely although I am totally bored.   The extent of my excitement is having a bowel movement!   I have been taking ibuprofen religiously for the lower back pain I am experiencing.  Dr advised many nerve ending were affected in that area which causes the discomfort.  I was wondering if anyone else was experiencing this pain and if they had any suggestions to relieve pain.   How long does it last?  I am glad I got it all done during one hospital stay, discomfort will end soon!

Hi Linda. I remember that boredom quite well. I read a lot and watched a lot of tv. I don’t recall the lower back pain being anything more than laying down so much.

Hi I’m having rectocele a cestocele and a bladder sling repair this coming Tuesday and I’m very nervous. I had a hysterectomy a few years back and had a sling put in and it was very painful for me. Two years ago I developed fibromyalgia and I’m already on oxycodone for unbearable flare ups as needed.  I’m wanting to hear from others how their experience with pain was after surgery.

Once I was healed from the surgery, I can say I am pain free. I had the hysterectomy done at the same time along with posterior and anterior wall repair. I had a long recovery but a doable recovery. Now I hike, bike, and have normal, pain free relations with my husband. I listened to the doctors. I didn’t rush my recovery. It’s all good now.

Thank you for answering my questions, how long would you say your recovery was? My doctor told me that in 10 days I should be 80% back to doing normal things but most of the reviews I have read say it takes several weeks or months to recover. I pray I recover fast.

My recovery was pretty long - but my repair was pretty extensive. The doctor had to completely rebuild the skin between my vagina and rectum so I couldn’t sit for a long time. I would think you will feel significantly better within a month. you won’t be able to lift, vacuum, or strenuous activity but you will feel better. I am very glad I had the surgery. It helped me a lot.

Good luck! I am now 7 weeks post op and it is all soooo much better. I have a follow up appointment with the surgeon next week and will be a bit anxious to hear that all is well as I did overdo things at times. I would say that there is still some feeling of bulginess/soreness but sometimes I actually forget I have had the op! (rectocele repair & also perinium repair) I am now trying to build my stamina - I was pretty fit and slim preop but boredom eating and no exercise has left me feeling overweight and lethargic - I have a new young vagina and want the body to go with it!!!!! So, tell yourself you ARE doing the right thing, look after yourself post op and look forward to the benefits!!

I had my surgery this past Tuesday and I can say if I had the chance to change my mind I would have sad the fact that hospital nurses did not stay on top of my pain meds didn’t make it any easier. I’m on my third night at the hospital and I finally stoped crying because of pain. This by far has been the tuoghest surgery I have had to have. Im 50 and i have had many kidney stone removals, c sections, uterus removal all kinds of surgery and this has been the toughest 😪 I know everyone is different I pray that in the weeks to come I change my mind on how I feel about the surgery.

Hopefully it will be like childbirth for you. Once you are past the pain, it will get better. I know Mine did. You are still in the first week. It gets better. Especially once you get home in your bed and you aren’t getting stuck with needles all the time.  I’ll be praying for you to quickly pass this hard part.

Thank you got praying 🙏🏻 I’m at home and still feeling miserable.  if anyone is planning on having this surgery look at hospital reviews and their pain management plan, I don’t want to feel sorry for myself but I felt I was treated unfairly and was seen like just another patient, so talk to people about the hospital you will be staying at.

      Hi Andrea,

I had Rectocele and Spincterplasty surgery in March and my recovery has been long. I had complications as well which went undiagnosed. I ended up with an absess soon after surgery and had to have it removed and drained. Then I developed an anal fistula which was just repaired two days ago. I will say there is light at the end of the tunnel. I am now starting to feel normal again. Get plenty of rest would be the best advice I can give you. I hope you recover soon.

Did u notice fistula or abscess or did doctor? I am 2 days shy of 2 weeks post op.. had catheter out about 4 days now .. just this evening I noticed a hard round lump or bulge between my vagina and rectum.. I can feel stitching at edge of inside if vagina.. wondering if my straining to use restroom has caused and issue.. had post op visit with surgeon and he said all looked good .. still very swollen but considering all he ended up having to do it is normal! I didn’t notice bulge yesterday so not sure if it was there or not! Should I be worried.. did they have to do another surgery to repair issues?  I really don’t want to go through any of the initial recover again.

My bladder has improved greatly. I no longer have to pee 5 seconds after I've already gone, no leakage and as long as I eat properly or take a stool softener I am no longer constipated.
