I've facing surgery in a week and have reservations.  Would like to know how others have recovered.

May I ask, what symptoms or feeling do you have that make you feel it’s failed?

I was hoping to hear from hey too. I can tell you mine. I can feel scratching or poking and it feels like it's my vagina coming out again but after going to the doctor I was assured that I hadn't prolapsed again but more relaxed. I'm thinking that means everything is not as high as it was after surgery but still not coming out. I'm just at 2 months recovery now and am hoping that feeling goes away as it is just about as uncomfortable as the prolapse. Hoping to find out more at my 12 week exam.

I’m on my 6th day of surgery at home following all instructions and I still haven’t gotten relief from pain😪 especially the rectal pain😪 I’m in hydromorphone ever 3hours around the clock and i still hurt. I called hospital and spoke to a nurse who advice me to add oxycodone in between wait time. Anyone try something that helped them? I feel like a failure

I was taking Oxycodone alone but then a nurse told me to take Ibuprofen with it. This worked for me for at least a few hours. It also helps to alternate warm baths and ice packs on the area. I know what you are going through and believe me there is a light at the end of the tunnel.

Thank you, I guess I just have to wait sad and rest as much as I can 🙏🏻

You aren’t a failure. It’s a hard surgery. I alternated between the pain meds and Tylenol also. Try laying down as much as possible. It will get better.

      Very normal.

I took 800 mgs of Ibuprofen every 4 to 6 hours and that enough

I had the DaVinci robotic assisted sacralcolpopexy with a urethral sling and a rectopexy with a mesh on 5-29-18. The only pain I experienced was on one of the 7 incision sites where there was a suture sewn to a nerve. I was told by one of the surgeons to expect it to be a Zinger and once the stitches dissolved the pain would go away. It was excruciating pain and I was put on a lot of pain medication which sent me spiraling down into severe depression. Once I was aware of what was causing my depression I stopped the pain meds and within three days I was back to myself. It was VERY scary. I would agree at 5 weeks I felt like I had prolapsed again but after seeing a doctor was told that I hadn't prolapsed but more that it had relaxed. I also,as other women have mentioned, feel like something is poking or scratching me. I also notice if I'm on my feet for several hours that I feel like it is prolapsing a bit but if I put my feet up then it seems to be better but it has never protruded out of my vagina but I feel and can see it's right there. After reading other comments here I'm very hopeful that after the 12 weeks full recovery I'm feeling a 100 %. Best advice especially if you're an active person be prepared to be bored out of your mind sitting around and you can't do anything physical for 6 weeks and with me it was very limited weight lifting and physical activity going forward to 12 weeks.

Hi I’m on my 5th week after surgery and I’m still in pain, I can’t sit very long or stand up very long because of pain. I had 3 c-sesearáns and 2 natural births for me this surgery was 10 times more difficult and painful. I also went into depression because I feel like I’m never going to get better. But everyone is different, I hope your recovery is faster and better than mine.

Hang in there Andrea, your mind is a powerful thing. It takes a while to get better but it will happen, this is a huge surgery. I had 3 implants done that were stitched to my tendons on my hips and the front of the stomach. It was painful but I never took narcotics, only Ibuorofen. You can do it. I'm 62 and I made it.

Thank you! Unfortunately I am on oxycodon not only because of surgery but for Fibromyalgia and I’m so tired of taking them. I’m hoping to wing off it in a few weeks and I pray I can use over the counter pain meds and not use them anymore. Thanks for the encouragement.

Worse than birth without meds.. I was up and going a few hours after birthing almost 10lb baby. I was tiny 100lb 19 yr old with no pain meds.. about 10 hours labor.  I also tore pretty good had like 12 stitches... I am 2 days shy of 2 weeks post-op.  37 yrs old.. mine was a little more than most.. had a tumor in back of uterus that was weighing it down and pulled part of intestine and colon into my vaginal area bladder was just a fingernail away from vaginal opening.  Complete repair of vagina, and all walls, bladder sling, he had to use mesh to attach my intestine and colon back where they belonged, also found 4 hernias, umbilical and then 3 internal.  Surgery was laparoscopic.  Ended up with 7 small incisions from just below my breast to my pubic area and 2 beside vagina, 2 beside rectum.. 11 total.  Had packing for 24 hours after surgery felt like the pressure u feel during birthing contractions when u push, just a constant.. it comes out much better.  I had a JP Drain, Catheter. Had bowel movement 1st post op lots of laxative and still softner involved.  But didn’t have 2nd til 3 days later that was horrible .. could feel it .. had to pile on the laxative and stool  softner.. spent 4 days in hospital.  1st 5 days home slept most the time.. most comfortable to lay down flat or on side.  Walk 5 mins or less every 2 hours .. sit for maybe and hour til it’s uncomfortable then lay down..  I went home with Noroco 7.5mg every 4 hours ..800 mg Ibuprofen every 6 hours..  definitely the 1st couple days followed that strictly.. by 3rd day able to spread our norco to 6-8 hours depended on what I did.. tried to do dishes and didn’t work washed one and was done .. by 6th day was down to 2 norco’s a Day and ibuprofen every 6 hours.. by day 8 just ibuprofen unless I had to ride in car then 1/2 norco and ibuprofen.. and had to be lying down on side. I live 2hrs from surgeon had 1st post op appt week after 3 days from going home.. got cath out.. also had appt for daughter same day.. stayed the night and my other daughter had an out patient procedure next morning .. I survived it all norco helped, and pacing myself .. not walking more than 10 mins and sitting and then laying down to take the pressure off everything down there.. was the key..  almost 2 weeks post op and am much better.. I take 800 mg ibuprofen / 8 hours .. rotate my walking, sitting, and laying down.. walking is about 10-15 mins now, sitting about 2 hours, and lay down no pain .. started driving a day or so ago just small quick trips 10-15 mins tops .. tried to go in grocery store with son .. had to go back to car too much, glad he knows how to check out and use card! (He’s 12) I was lucky I have 2 daughters 18, and 16 and son 12.. my husband ended up being off about 8 week days (10 including weekend).  Probably could have went back after 6 but he is a sweetheart! Have a huge spiritual family that has brought our family dinner every night since I came home! Without help my recovery would be almost intolerable! I would have survived but sure would have been more painful! Best advice is get help! Be sure u try and walk every few hours even if it’s just for 2-3 mins .. walking while painful, brought relief after.  Plenty of laxative and stool softners, and use pain meds, especially that first week! Really need to have at least one bowel movement a day let it go longer and it’s gonna hurt, u can feel it sitting there no matter what u do! I read some of others experiences and it scared me didn’t want to do it .. but it also prepared me.. I knew it was gonna be worse than I imagined and knew I would need help! Get it all set before hand and it makes it a lot easier to deal with the pain and knowing ur loved ones are cared for makes it easier to rest and not feel like u have to do this or that! Ur’s probably won’t be as bad but prepare for it to be bad .. will make recovery seem a lot easier when it’s not!  Hope I didn’t scare u or anyone else out of it. For me it was a must couldn’t leave uterus with tumor there and other health risks. But I already feel different in a better way in my lower region than I have in a long time and it’s great not to be peeing myself just walking anymore! Can’t wait to start jogging again!
