Hi, I had my cystocele and rectocele surgery 9 days ago. Only prob I have is sitting and the strange odour from day one. I used pain relief issued by hospital and had to self inject into my tummy for four nights. I went shopping the day after leaving hospital and have been quite active since. I hang out the washing taking care not to stretch too much and cook and wash dishes. Have been making the bed since I got home because I feel I can. I am 60 and as I said my biggest prob is sitting as stitches are really annoying. The odour is not as intense so I think I'm on my way to getting better. I think the thing is to know your body and your limits. It's early days yet and I'm confident all will be good 😊

Hi Rosaleen...glad things are going so good for you! I'm having surgery also on my cystocele and rectocele and my uterus is falling so they are doing a hysterectomy too. Did you have to go home with a catheter in? That is one of my biggest fears! I've never had one and I certainly do not want to put my own in! Did you stay in the hospital? My surgeon said I would go home the same day..I'm a little concerned about that too.

Hi Lynnieboxer, I was happy to stay in to convalesce. I wouldn't think going home on the same day after major surgery would be the best move for anyone. I had my op on wed 17th July 8.30am. The packing and catheter came out next day but the catheter had to go back in at 1am fri morn as there was too much fluid being left in the bladder after using the bathroom. I was warned I might have to go home with it. It was taken out again about 2pm fri afternoon and after 3 voids and a scan after each I was emptying my bladder successfully. I got home at about 7.30 pm on the Fri night with my meds and injections. It is important to keep drinking plenty of fluids. I honestly don't think you will get home the same day. I wish you luck and hope everything works out for you xx

When I saw her...she told me I'd go home the same day and probably with a catheter. I don't know if I can insist I stay at least 1 night??? Did they cut you or did they do the vaginally? They are doing all of my stuff vaginally. I don't know where you are from...but I am going to Pittsburgh PA to Magee's Womens Hospital. Very great place. But this doesn't sound like a great plan to me???

The catheter is nothing. I mean it you will feel nothing from that. If you're also having a hysterectomy I would demand to stay in the hospital overnight for sure.

Hi again, I'm from N.Ireland. My op was done vaginally. I really don't think you will be out the same day. I can't visualise that. The catheter is not sore to get out, and you just have to be careful when moving about not to pull on it x

Thanks Rosaleen...Its so great to get support from all of you about these surgeries. I'm very nervous about having so much done at once. They must let me stay over night...I'll be so worried!

Hi folks, taking it a bit easier today. Not as good as I felt before. Maybe full effects just starting to show now or maybe just doing too much. I'm slacking off a bit for now and taking my meds properly again as I had cut them down a bit. Still on my feet though as it's easier than sitting. The moral of the story is if you are feeling good don't overdo things thinking you can because it's one step forward and two steps back!

Hi Rosaleen….Was just thinking of you and wanted to see how you're doing a few days after your last post. I hope you're not overdoing things. How long has it been since surgery? How would you say you're doing?

Hi there lynnieboxer, It's been 16 days since surgery. Still had a lot of burning but had no pain passing urineand I thought it was the stitches. I did have a urine sample taken the day I left hospital and the results were to be sent to my own doctor. I rang up and there were no results left so I figured I was ok. Today I could not sit or stand and had pain passing urine. I got on to my doctor who then checked with the lab and was told I had ecoli showing up in my last catheter sample. I'm on antibiotics atm so not feeling great but hopefully all will pass and I can get back to normal. Thanks for asking xxxx
