What type of Magnesium do I buy?

Posted , 9 users are following.

Hi!

I was trying to get all supplements on Nancy's big post. I bought Magnesium Citrate and it gave me diarrhea within an hour. I looked it up and apparently this one acts like a laxative. I saw someone write that Magnesium Oxide has high oxalates, so I don't think that one is good either. What about Magnesium Glycinate? Any guidance is appreciated!!!!

hi, I purchased two forms of magnesium. I’m doing magnesium malate in the morning and magnesium glycinate in the evening. for now I’m just doing the mail late and it’s nice and doesn’t seem to have any negative affects for me. Some people use only magnesium Glycinate but oxide is the cheapest Form of magnesium and I do not recommend it. As for citrate, it does not really get into your system which is why you have to basically poop it out so it’s not good unless you wereform of magnesium and I do not recommend it. Hi, I was prescribed daily, 2000 UI vitamine D, (1) HMF Probiotic, a multi-vitamine (2) per day called Twice Daily Multi , (2) Immunitone Plus. They have made me feel better.

laurie, what kind of a practitioner prescribed these supplements...was it an MD? When you say make you feel better, do you mean they have specifically lessened the effects of LS? Also, how long have you been taking them?

Six pills a day is a lot more appealing than the dozen I'm taking and hope to whittle down. Considering how I eat I can't imagine I'm particularly low in any vitamins or minerals other than calcium due to my age. I take 1000 IU of D, but I am in the sun daily.

Rather than take a probiotic I have been drinking kefir daily for a few years. It's filled with beneficial live bacteria and it has been really great for my digestion. Probiotic in capsule form never did a thing for me.

I see the Immunitone Plus contains green tea (standardized to a high level of EGCg ..whatever that means), standardized Echinacea augustifolia, Andrographis paniculata, and Goldenseal. I don't take any of those, but I don't get so much as a cold so I wonder about my need them.

I will be seeing an MD on Friday who is now specializing in FM. It has taken me a long time to find one that accepts insurance. I hope to at least get a recommendation on what supplements to take. I will share this info when I get it.

Hi Beverly, my specialist, he is a Gynacologist told me to limit sugar, gluten and dairy. He put me on the Clobetasol, Progesterone (3) pills a day for 10 days a month, Vagifem twice a week and a small amount daily of Estrogel. I also went to a Natural Path doctor who put me on all the vitamins. The specialist agrees with the vitamins, he said they will surely help. I believe the vitamins have given me energy. Apparently they also help combat autoamune diseases. I can't use the Keifer drink because it is dairy. The Natural path told me to avoid dairy completely. She also said to use 1/8 of a cup of borax once a week in the bath water. Also, liquid vitamin A-Mulsion mixed with Castor oil and liquid vitamin D to put on when I am not using the Clobetasol.

I forgot to mention, the vitamins I get on line from Fullscript. Not sure where you live but I am in Canada. The reason the specialist put me on the drugs is because I am in menapause. I hope to get off of them soon and just take the vitamins, The Natural Path Doctor also told me to get Nettle Leaves and Wild Red Clover. you put a tablespoon of each, in boiling water and steep over night. Doesnt taste the greatest but it helps with menapause symtoms.

i see the immunitone plus has very powerful ingredients that go above and beyond something for the common cold . i have lyme disease and the egcg and andrographis are lyme and other bacteria killing herbs so i would def.consider taking it. when lyme and other bacteria is killed off, it can help put other conditions into remission. i take vitamin d and a host of other supplements including doing AIP diet for last three months, but my ai condition continues

Wow, I'm impressed that a gyn would talk about diet! I have been on what I consider gluten light for a couple of years, then got a bit stricter the past year due to LS. I eat very little sugar and am lactose intolerant so don't eat much dairy. The kefir, BTW, is 99% lactose free. Not sure if that matters re whatever harm dairy is supposed to be causing re LS. I have to say I have noticed no difference whether I eat gluten or not.

I think you may be the first person who mentioned taking progesterone. Are you still having your period? (Sorry, I easily confuse people here). I assume you are if your taking that hormone.

I have taken vitamins off and on over many years and never noticed any difference. I'm certainly taking more now than ever before. Will be seeing the new doc tomorrow who I am sure will address supplements as I was asked to list all I took before seeing him.

I was told that dairy causes inflamation which can make LS worse. My doctor has been great! I no longer have a period,. I went into menapause at 45, I am 58 now. Good luck at the mew doctor tomorrow!

Are you taking the progesterone specifically for the LS? I seem to recall reading testosterone wasn't effective, but I don't remember reading anything about progesterone. Was this decision based on results of a blood test to check hormone levels?

I take DHEA based on something I read. I discussed it with my gyn before taking it and she was fine with it. But again, I have noticed no improvement based on any supplements.

I'm a bit confused why you are taking anything for menopause if you went through it 13 years ago. Are you still having menopausal symptoms? Personally, I don't think I've had a good night's sleep in 20 years.

My doctor thinks in my case that taking the progesterone will help relieve the LS symptoms. At this point I will continue it for another year and see how I am. In November I have an appointment at the hospital to do a complete exam with him using microscopes, and doing some tests to make sure I am ok. He said that this will be done every year for the rest of my life because of the LS.

Laurie - this is very interesting! ?I wonder which exact tests he is referring to? I've not been told the need for certain tests on a yearly basis. Please do ask him and let us know. Way too many of us on here are working with professionals who are nonetheless not very knowledgeable about this LS disease. THANKS!

I will post what he does. He said it has to be done at the hospital, not in his office. My appointment is November 14th. I am fortunate, he is a good doctor.

HI Beverly ! ooh gosh I hope not - ouch... I"m assuming that a biopsy is only needed once to confirm the presence of LS.

Well, smiles, luckily we only have month to wait until Laurie can ask enough questions to get us some indepth intel...

HI Hannah! So glad to hear you are working on a complete nutrition program too. I'm sorry about your citrate response. We are all a bit different. It works well for me.. but that reminds me I used to have several kidney stone attacks - argh - which implies a low level of magnesium relative - so I must have a higher than norm need for that type of digestive help. Anyway I do know that any of the magnesiums OTHER than the oxide are all good forms.

I just noticed that Dr. Sinatra ( a cardiologist) makes a broad spectrum version that has all four mixed in together: citrate, orotate, glycinate, taurinate. ... cool, I think I'll switch on my next order. BUt any of the others singly will be fine.

I also looked up Dr. Isabella Wentz who mentions both citrate and glycinate forms. She notes that glycinate might increase anxiety in those who have that... just for an FYI.

    Cheers, Nancy
