when do you need an IOL exchange

I had cataract surgery and one eye is OK but the other did not work. I went back to my surgeon but he said did everything correctly and the fact that I could not see, read or focus mainly was due to the health of my eyes. I checked with my retina doctor and he said my retina was healthy. I went back to my surgeon and he suggested I go for a second opinion.
At this point, I could read some print but images were blurry if they were further than arm length. Of course I could not read road signs or TV captions . By now the focus problems were worse because I was constantly seeing double images. It was almost five months after my operation
Thanks to the information I got from Julielyn I was able to find a wonderful doctor in Florida who tested my eyes thoroughly and found that I needed an IOL exchange. So here I am preparing to have this procedure that will restore my vision as it was before the cataracts. So thanks Julielyn, SueAn2 and Hudsongrl for all the support and feedback during all these five months when I was so confused and needing a kind suggestion. I will keep you posted.

I have read your and Julielyn's posts. I am in central Florida and did look up your look up your doctor. I ended up going to a local doctor, but your doctor seems very experienced. I hope everything goes well. You are in good hands. When is your surgery?

It is next month, I will post it then. Wow seems that Florida has much better doctors than here. it is scary to not be able to focus as my eye is the dominant eye and is fighting the other eye which is doing better. How did your surgery go, are you better now?

First eye is done and went well. Second eye the end of the month. Then vitrectomy in another 6 months. Will be glad when it's all over!

What is a vitrectomy?

It's where they replace the vitreous fluid with another solution. In my case, it's to get rid of floaters that hang around the center of my vision - from PVD (Posterior Vitreous Detachment). Most people have floaters and they aren't bothersome. Unfortunately, I have one that's almost like a cloud and my vision goes in and out of blurriness as it moves around.

Oh I am glad they can do that, let me know how you are.

Deb, i have the same in both eyes from PVD. Neuro adaptation has allowed my brain to tune the WEISS ring in my right eye out, but the left eye is recent and is driving me nuts...constant swinging floater central vision.

I have had one cataract done and when I read your description of the problem you were getting I immediately thought that you may have the wrong lens implanted. I am not a doctor but had another complication which meant I did a lot of research and talking to find the best solution.
I hope it works for you.

Hi, Elizabeth. I was wondering how this happened and why the doctor didn't catch it. And what was the doctor's attitude after being told he made a mistake? Also, what about finances? Did the doctor offer a refund? Finally, what is the name of the thread you referred to? I would like to read it. Many thanks.

Am pleased that your IOL exchange has been made.
I had a similar problem with a badly positioned IOL fitted by a private surgeon in Darlington, England with very poor vision from immediately after the operation in 2017. This surgeon said that he could do nothing to correct the situation and little remedial help from NHS (social health system in UK).
Thus I went to France and excellent surgery with IOL replaced in 2018 and now good vision.
The English union representing the UK surgeon has made some payment towards my considerable costs and the UK General Medical Council is now taking the case of investigating this Darlington surgeon.
